Yeah, there aren’t any new models in the army sets. They’re just a cheaper and more convenient way of grabbing an army.  There is a lot in them though!

new models would have been nice.

I’d argue that a new Leia variant would have been too expensive, but then they do have 3 versions of Luke (and a 2nd variant of his daddy ?)

3 Luke, 3 Vader (both Commander, Operative and each a convention special) We know Boba Fett gets a new sculpt, Darth Maul has at least 2 variants and I think Obi Wan is double too but I’d need to doublecheck that

Sounds like a good way for new players to get on board though.

I should see if anyone in my local area is interested in getting into Star Wars Legion with me.

It sure beats having to buy a starter set and then a few additional boxes to get a force with a bit more variety right from the start.

We only need to know what that ‘essentials’ kit is going to cost, because that is the only thing you really ‘need’ to have a fully functional army.

501st box really needs Rex and Ashoka (sp?) to be complete.
Or replace Anakin with Ashoka and then paint them like they are in the final season of ‘clone wars’ …

These are a really cost-effective way of bulking out on Star Wars mini’s, expecting them to sell out quickly.

Got to say I’m slightly tempted to revisit playing Chain of Command with Legion figures.

    Essentials kit is 29.99USD

I guess that’s going top be GBP/EUR as well.. sort of…

yeah … real world currency conversion rarely is a factor.
One can pretty much assume it’s 1:1 …

So 2 army sets of your choice and an essential kit and you’ve got ‘moar dakka’ and better armies than the original starter sets (which more or less required a second starter set to get the most value for your army and one you didn’t want)

Still no word on the possibility of building a 100% Mandalorian force though

Thematically, it wouldn’t work – during the prequel era, the Mandalorians were already fractured and would only follow the Darksaber. They’re also all counted as Elite troops (in canon), so there’s no Corps units

So technically even if you could ‘downgrade’ some to Corps, you could do it but you’d have to run Maul as a leader.

We never did get Yoda for the rebel faction

Yoda, during the rebel era, was 800 years old and could barely walk.

He had trouble overpowering R2D2 during RotJ

Not sure I’d want that in my army…

The Rebel set is interesting though – it’s not new models but there’s zero overlap with any of the Core sets, which makes it pretty good value

Shadow Collective is on sprues with pdf online for assembly instructions.

Improvement over the bags of bits they used to send out.

I did mention this elsewhere, but that news item was a few weeks ago.

Looking forward to the Rebels set, as I never got any of the Veterans – didn’t think I could bring them into my Endor army, but I managed it with the 1.4FD set.

In case the QR Code assembly bug hasn’t been fixed yet, you can find the instructions here: https://www.atomicmassgames.com/star-wars-legion-documents
