@ceppie – I have been looking up stuff about Manitoba ever since I sent you that package. Research for my future visit! I was only being a dick about the C&D. I am not Games Wacoshop after all.
Anything that even sounds like “spirited energy” is too leftie-pinko for me. It is all just make believe. Crystal skulls my arse. Evidence please? [tumble-weed rolls past]
If you want a really good giggle then check out a guy called Dr. Steven Greer (MD). He gets visited by alien ambassadors from Galactic Federations. You can join a weekend for $4000. Sounds very greasy to me. He is all pumped-up and stated he could bench-press 440. Dave went rel Happy Mondays and posed a comment saying, “You mean 440 guys [the rest has been omitted on legal advice]!” The guy is a total choob. I think he is secretly the “biker” from the Village People.
Their was also the dyslyxic SAS unit…stormed in Harrods looking for Bed Linen!
Welshman walks into a pub, with a pig under his arm. Barman says, “Where did you get that?” The pig replies, “It started as a boil on my arse and now look at it!” OR The pig says, “Oh, I won it in a raffle!”
Platoon – awesome movie, but one of those things you have to be in the right mood for. Very heavy in places. If that look he exchanges with the vet (when he gets off the transport) is not enough to give you the fear then I don’t know what will!
I started to ask how your brother was doing, but I saw the bottom of the page. Good one.
@irredeemable – a VERY impressive bit of work…so far. 200pts. I might have to get myself one. His trousers look inspired by the banned film, ‘A Chocolate Orange’.
Wow – that game looks very impressive. What do you do? I could look, but who needs Goggle.
You even got a delivery! What a day. I was expecting one, but it never came.
August 6, 2019 at 8:37 pm #1422426Got the stealth teams done, drones included. I’m thinking they’ll plug into my alien recce org, which is mostly Tau stuff anyway. For those who know Traveller, I’m going to use the Tau models as Zhodani in a first contact scenario, complete with psionic abilities. These models will be infiltration teams, sneaking into a position 90 degrees to an assault to provide a fire support base, much like German MG teams did in WWII.
I’m trying to create alien kit that will actually be ‘alien’ in tactics and deployment.
I’m not going to mount the drones right now. I may magnetize them so I can pull them off their base and leave them on the ground as a smoke plume/scant bit of cover if they get totaled.
I remember this being great with a head full of herbs:
@unclejimmy Steven Greer? One can only hope that he and his followers drink the Kool-Aid so their spirits can hitch a ride on the next passing interstellar bus bound for Alpha Centauri station.
If you’re seriously planning a visit, I would likely billet you at the motel in Ste. Anne, about 15 minutes up the road, and just let you use my truck. How’s Heather with left hand drive? Shouldn’t be an issue: it’s four lane highway for much of the way. @oriskany and @gladesrunner can vouch for the accommodations… and the meals at our place when you arrive. The motel in Ste. Anne is also two minutes or less from the hospital in case you have a problem while you’re here. Maybe we could do a mini-con with whoever is interested. Jim?
You’ll be happy to know your 10 acres across the road is still for sale. The guy is asking way too much!
HAL has drifted to this…
Time to get stuck into some battle boards.
August 7, 2019 at 12:42 am #1422514U-Boot, it was a Kickstarter my mate backed a while back. Essentially it’s a 4-player game where each player takes on a role in a German U-boat. You’re all working together and controlling crew but with completely different sets of actions. So for example only the Navigator will be plotting a course while the Chief Engineer will be looking after any technical issues that arise. Each crew member has quite a large range of tasks and the attention to detail is awesome. For instance, the game runs on crew morale and the worse it gets the greater challenges the Captain faces maintaining order. Allowing the crew to go out for a smoke increases morale a small bit but can only be done while surfaced. So if you go through an extended period of contact with Allied ships then there’s no reprieve.
More work done on Riddler. The green is finished for now although I have a feeling I might give it a thin glaze just to shade it slightly. I’ll see how I feel in the morning.
August 7, 2019 at 1:50 pm #1422702It is one of those days where they have turned-up the gravity! A bath will get me going…
Just had a package delivered. I know that it is for me, but I will have to wait until the boy gets home. Curses.
@ceppie – I have a load of Tau bits that you might find useful! The SS were always one of my favourites. Jamie had loads of them…lethal. Very lethal.
I have noticed a few mould-lines, but as they are a WiP I will let it go…FOR NOW! There is even two of the big gun drones – with the burst cannons lurking about somewhere. I saw them!
You need to have a look through the futuristic FoF rules – ‘Tomorrows War’. I should be able to send you a PDF copy via email. I’ll try later. If not then i’ll pop a copy on disc and post it to you.
Peter Frampton rules. I also enjoy Humble Pie.
Dave said that 440 is Greer’s white blood cell count! The guy is either delusional or just a snake-oil seller. Is being a doctor not enough any more?
I can’t use your truck – I can’t drive a car. Last time I did I reversed an Ambulance into a trailer. I do have the ‘black-taxi’ available. It would be a while, quite a while, as I would need to get much stronger before I can get further than Glasgow (that is on an amazing day). On a good day I can make it to the shop up the road, and back, without needing medical attention.
There is no way Heather would come. Not for any reason other than she is no traveller, but I might work on the idea. That would mean it would have to be when she is off during the summer.
PLEASE – do not tempt me with that land again. How is it still for sale? Since we got rid of the other houses I do have a few quid to spare.
@irredeemable – that games does look very impressive. I do like submarines too. I also have birthday £ to spend! Well, I did by Traktor Muls already.
That ‘green’ is really striking. Impressive stuff. 100pts. Does this version not have “?” on him anymore? I also notice the shading on the base…nice.
August 7, 2019 at 2:32 pm #1422711August 7, 2019 at 4:09 pm #1422734Good Morning All!
I’m back to working on the river boards today. Slow going, as they are becoming tedious. I’ll be putting a plasticard edge on two of the flat boards and trying to get them flocked today. I’ve got two more to do, but I want to put down some old bits of cobble, and some squared off corners, remnants of ancient building foundations. I’ve been saving up eggshell. It works quite well for that, as long as you remember to remove the membrane on the inside. Otherwise the shell wants to retain its round shape.
@unclejimmy Tau bits? Yes, please! Has no one else claimed them? I didn’t want to take all your stuff!
Mould lines? Where? There’s an intentional gap running down the centre of the keel, but I thought I had it sorted otherwise. Is that what you meant?
Yes, I would like to have a look at Tomorrow’s War. I’ve seen some of your FoF battle reports on here. Looks like fun!
No worries about the truck. If it’s just you we can find room, and I’ll run you around wherever you would like to go. As I said, the hospital isn’t far if you need it. I can get there in under 10 minutes. Winnipeg is about 40 minutes away; that’s where you would fly into. If you Google Earth ‘Ste. Genevieve, Manitoba’ you’ll see where we live: on the cusp of the Prairies and Canadian Shield country (rocks, pines, lakes). We’re two miles north of the village, and half a mile west. The pond is a giveaway.
The land is for sale because the guy is asking $55,000 for it; he only paid $39,000 and I think he got suckered at that price. The front half is a swamp… but fixable. If you dredge the swamp you can use the fill, which is mostly gravel, to build up a house site… and then you’re left with is a nice big pond. If you connect it to the ditches it will soon have minnows and other things in it that will take care of any mosquito larvae.
Also, I have a big “Beware of Dog” sign at the end of the driveway and fire off .22 rounds whenever anyone looks at the land. I don’t want a neighbour I don’t know.
@irredeemable Sounds like a fun game. Do you also get points for tonnage sunk? You say it’s a cooperative game. How do you win?
Awesome job on the green suit! It really pops! When I do bulk troops these days I often do a drybrush first and soften the ragged edges with a wash and then add a glaze afterward.
Mellow tunes this morning.
Time for some chores and then off to the garage.
August 7, 2019 at 6:52 pm #1422815First a question: what is the difference between there two items?
The answer is: £7! On the right an airbrush holder that I got free with my last airbrush, but they sell on Ebay for £9. The object on the right is a kitchen towel holder – £2 from Wilkinsons.
I also got this in the post…
JSA rules.
@tuffyears – that bird must work for the McGlinchy Brothers, remember their motto…”We slash more than prices!”
@ceppie – nope! Maybe they think there is some secret charge? Their loss is your gain. I’ll have a good scout about.
Mould-lines on the Drones sensor box. Oh, the horror!
You only fire a .22? I would want something a bit bigger. MortarInvestments sell all sorts of Soviet vehicles…something there might do. I am tempted. Really tempted. I mean £34000 is not bad for such a nice bit of land. No giant snakes is there?
Ah, the Cello. I can watch a woman play it all day long. It’s the hands!
August 7, 2019 at 7:17 pm #1422816@unclejimmy No wonder you were hovering around the mail! Sweet looking mini’s. My LGS just started stocking Infinity models, so I’ll be picking up a lot the Ariadna models to use as PC ground pounders in my Traveller campaign. They always compensate me with ‘stuff’, even though I’m technically a volunteer. Otherwise I wouldn’t be buying anything.
Mould line duly noted. Gasp!
Only garter snakes here… totally harmless and you don’t usually see them longer than 2′ or so. The cats eat them if I forget to fill their bowl.
Ammo is expensive here, so if I’m going to crack off a few rounds to convince potential buyers they may get a dangerous redneck for a neighbour, it’s usually with the .22 … but if someone gets serious about the land I may need to break out the Ishapore. Vi will often hurry across the road to point out to them that the land is swampy, in case they don’t know what that looks like, or the problems it will cause if not addressed.
Back to the garage
August 7, 2019 at 7:52 pm #1422819@ceppie – i’ll just say you were a bit tried! The minis are sort of ‘cheap Samurai’ in their faction. Tough and hard and very versatile too. They can form numerous Fireteams (an important thing in Infinity sectorial armies) with various other troops. Some of the combinations are very useful. Most of them are also very deadly.
I wouldn’t have a problem with ammo…I know someone! Screw that, I want an M60. Can you buy landmines or do I have to make them again?
Deep Purple it is then. Try this…
I am sure the crowd were there for something else!
August 7, 2019 at 8:40 pm #1422822@unclejimmy Nope, can’t buy land mines anymore… but… I can still access half a dozen shotgun shells, wooden matches, sandpaper, a dozen 2″ nails, a Pepsi can, and I’ve got plenty of sand for tamping. Instant toe popper.
Outstanding Deep Purple performance. WTF is with the audience. They look like a graduating class of Scientology Sea Org zombies out on a day pass.
Back to the garage. Will post WIP pics later.
August 7, 2019 at 8:43 pm #1422824I’m doing terrain… what are you all up to?

August 7, 2019 at 9:40 pm #1422836@sundancer Now you’ve peaked my curiosity. 🙂 I can see the potential, but not the end product or the process!
August 7, 2019 at 9:53 pm #1422837@ceppie – bloody hell, what Army taught you that…Revolutionary? I have a little more style. I also cast my own shot. I know a great trick if you have some welding rod. Against the GC, but I won’t tell anyone.
The place they make them in the UK is just a few miles from here, Birtley. They still have their original Roman road too. Well, it feels like it when you are riding on it.
AWESOME! They do look like Sea Org. I love it. 1000pts. You clearly need some auditing. (Scientology in-joke)
You can buy E-meters. Some are upto $30000. However, the FDA made them add a sticker to the bottom…”This item does nothing.”
I just realised you missed something from your shopping list for booby-traps…human dung. Great for infecting wounds.
@sundancer – I think you have lost me a bit with your terrain. Did I miss something?
Here at UJ Towers we have been having a birthday supper. Very nice it was too.
Closing time is 2200hrs here, but I need to wash-up, so you get another few hours. There is not that many dishes, but I want to build one of those Domaru. Play nice.
August 8, 2019 at 4:49 am #1422909Not sure which has been longer lately … the weeks or the weekends. 🙁
Anyway, let me try to catch up with some responses.
@unclejimmy- glad you liked the Australians in Vietnam video. Tell you who was even harder, at least suggested by the numbers … the South Koreans. Seven times as many troops deployed to Vietnam at just about any time … ten times as many casualties. I might have to make up a ROK force for Vietnam Valor & Victory now. I already have ARVN so we all have someone to laugh at. 😀
The green motorcycle looks awesome! Just for recon and transport? I might be missing them but I don’t see any weapons on there. Then again, would a motorcycle really make a good COMBAT vehicle? Lord knows they used plenty in early- and mid- World War II for fast recon … and yes, you do see plenty of them in Panzer Leader. 😀
@irredeemable – I like the Joker! Now we just need a Harlequin figure as well. 😛 “Ya better treat me right, Mista J!” I’ve heard good things about that U-Boat game. I hear it’s actually pretty hard for the group to survive a complete mission. Like most co-op games, because you’re never playing “against” opponents, the game itself is hard as balls.
Thanks, @ceppie – Yeah, you don’t hear much about the ROK in Vietnam. Not sure why. They were deployed mostly in III Corps sector, north of Saigon, along the coast. These guys were positively vicious 1964-68. The only complaint about them is that sometimes they weren’t easy to control. There are some reports of atrocities when they took things too far. They were deployed up to II and I Corps briefly when the Tet Offensive hit in 68, the US Commander of I Field Force at Cam Ranh Bay didn’t like them because he couldn’t control them. After Tet they kind of deflated, they lost a lot of their aggression. The political support back home largely faded because American financial support for South Korea in the war wasn’t what it used to be. Accordingly, they lost a little of their motivation. I swear I’ve run across one historian who called them the “Hessians” of the Vietnam War. When the money dries up, so does the eagerness to fight. But for the first half of the war they were pretty insane. Separately from ARVN, I think, as the South Koreans and South Vietnamese did NOT get along, at least their officers.
Wargaming time for the moment is all Valor & Victory, Panzer Leader, and Darkstar. It’s already more than I can handle, games are being cancelled and postponed so I don’t miss content creation deadlines for Ops Center and Sitrep. I haven’t picked up a paintbrush since February.
I like the Stealth Suits and the Drones! 😀
Yes the hotel up there where we stayed at was nice. Nothing fancy, but clean, safe, quiet, and comfortable.
