Sorry about that, @tuffyears.  These links are designed to only last so long.  I will send a new one before I go to bed tonight so it should still be relatively new when you see it in the morning.

Or … do you have a DiscordID and I can send it to you?

I have sent to your Discord.

    It’s also here:

Just watched your table intro video on youtube. Great content but the presenter kept going in and out of sound. I assume they were using a fixed microphone or maybe something hung on their clothes. As they turned their head, reached for stuff their voice kept changing strength to the point of being unheard in parts. I am not into any of this stuff but I assume a headset microphone would stop this. In any case, assuming this is an issue where the microphone’s proximity to the speaker’s mouth is the issue if you could look into this for future it would be really appreciated.

I found this very interesting as I have been using painted cloths for 40 years. I also have a lot of felt used as described. I am not so sure on the hills under or over the cloth debate. Personally I like to be able to see the contours as most rules I use make use of the contour lines.  In the past I had some carpet which was about 1/4″ thick with half that being a medium density foam backing. When cut this gave very identifiable contours which showed up well on the game table. Again this was decades ago and I don’t know if such still exists. The carpet was a mix of greens and tans so was a good colour as is.

A couple ideas I have used with homemade cloth game mats in the past is RAFM made, and still carry, iron on hexes in 1″, 2″ and 3″ across flats. Each was available in white or black. The 2″ has a dot in the centre of each hex. Of my game mats I covered one side in while and the other in black of the same size. Depending on the sheet colour it made for either subtle or obvious hexes. I know they still have 2″ and some 3″ still available, as of a couple years ago. It seems the 1″ is long gone (probably into boxes in basements as opposed to actual sheets) although I did see Noble Knight selling some a few years back at exorbitant prices. Another alternative is I bought a template to allow me to paint hexes on my new sheets. I think it was from one of the outfits which produce the plastic game tokens. I have yet to use it but have a couple sheets to be prepared when I need them. There is a trick to preparing the iron on hexes which is detailed on the supplied instructions. Basically tape the iron on sheets to the base sheet and take your time aligning the next row of iron on so they don’t go astray. Take your time, measure and think ahead.

    I hope this helps.

My teen son and I played our first game of Battlespace today. Scenario 1. We played co-op with a total of four characters. Made a few mistakes for the first couple turns but sorted it out in the end. We played in 15mm, tape for roads, boxes for buildings, pill bottles for trees, etc. and in the end on a 20″ square area. I thought it went quick but was hoping we were on 2′ square area. Best part is my computer gaming son is pumped so hopefully another game tomorrow. I bought, read the rules but this was the first game and was almost a month since I last read it so mistakes were understandable. Have to read it again today and get stuff ready for scenario 2.

It was good to play co-op as I could see us losing interest, getting upset if it was one vs one. I was looking forward to this game after the mention on the Sit Rep pod cast, and some discussion on some other game site which gave it good marks. We didn’t use the optional (advanced?) rules until one of the sitrep cards made us capture an insurgent. The hand to hand rules are advanced and were the only ones we used. Now to see how re-playable it is (different scenarios), if the interest keeps up, how involved the advanced rules add to the game and whether or not we desire a higher level of detail. The last will demand quite a few games I hope. I am also looking at how easy to roll your own scenarios will be. Anyone with thoughts on that or links to sites where doing so with these rules in discussed please do so.

Glad you posted your experience with this game!  It’s great to hear that your computer gaming son is enjoying it as well.  ?

I myself bought ‘Battlespace’ the night I saw SITREP Podcast talk about it on their ‘General’s Show’s.  Currently my only opponent for games, (and in this case CoPlayer), is my wife and I know she really prefers tables with lots of cool terrain as she says her imagination switch doesn’t easily activate.  So I’ve been busy ordering and building some stuff from Blacksitestudios.com.

I look forward to hearing about your continued experience with this game and you share your love of table top gaming with your son who normally enjoys computer games.

    Well Done!

PS….I too well be looking forward to “roll your own scenarios”. So much potential for this game!???

So I had a few questions and needed to re-read the rules after our first game. I have the following questions and assumed answers based on my reading of the rules and the cards. Robert Salters has a presence on facemess but I don’t and have been shut out when I tried to join. So if anyone has a way to contact him with these questions please do. Thank you.

    Questions:

If an enemy activates on a sit rep card played as a result of a friendly trooper failing an activation roll can it then activate later during the sit rep phase? The rules state if the figure activated during the sit rep phase as a result of a sit rep card it cannot activate at the end of the sit rep phase, only enemy troops not activated by the card can then activate. My question regards cards drawn during the soldier’s phase.

Can you have multiples of gear? Can you have, spread over the force or even with an individual, say 3 frag grenades?

Is the medic kit too big to exhaust. It has no size listed like other gear so I assume it never is exhausted.

How far can you climb? I assume up or down one level/ floor or up or down a wall for the 2 orders. So it would take 2 turns (4 orders) to go over a wall (say 2 meters or one floor high), one to climb and end on top (can we say TARGET!) and one to climb down the other side. And god forbid you climb up, then fail your activation and are stuck there for a turn or more!

    Assumption:

For the initial scenario all initially deployed enemies are Al Wahid fighters. If additional singles are created as a result of the sit rep cards then on a 5+ THEY are soldiers.

My rule book was hard to read the red enemy disposition against the brown background so I missed that the element was 3 troopers. I barely made out which were singles and that one was an element.

Yes, we messed up. No enemy actions during the sit rep phase (after drawing the card and not being active then) for a turn or two, all enemies had 1 HP, and our one guy took a hit then was patched up by a medic kit. Later he took 4 more hits so we felt he “died” on the NEW fourth hit, which is true. But he can take 4 and live, just not total. He also was supposed to be worse off after 3, but again since he failed everything anyways it made no difference in game terms that we screwed up. Also, as related to my above question, we drew an Al Wahid sniper who activated EVERY time a sit rep card was drawn (multiple times each turn as we failed repeated activation rolls at the end) since the sniper was the last enemy survivor on the table and the cards read something like Al Wahid unit nearest enemy makes attack. So in one turn the bad guy sniper had three attacks on the same guy, who had stayed on board to make sure the medic made it off after he was left behind.

And how do I add anything to that? I tried typing in stuff at the bottom below the last post but no way to enter it.

    Good morning ~

Okay, you’ve successfully joined our Discord, I got the message.

To add content, just select whatever “channel” you want to add to.  We have the Hobby Room for hobby, War Room for higher-strategy material, Rec Room for general bullsh*t, and announcements for official events, broadcasts, etc.

You should see a small bar at the bottom where you see a “+” sign and a text bar.  For text just put in text and when you’re don’t hit enter.  There is no “upload” or “save” key.

Hit the “+” sign to add pictures, etc.  I think 8MB is the limit.

I can’t make heads or tails of this. I typed in “test” and it never appeared. I hit enter and it just gave me a second line to type on. There is no way to actually ENTER the text. I looked at it today and there is no record of my input and that input is still on the window at the bottom so never entered. Not any good if I can’t add to the conversation is it?

I work every day on three different Discord servers.  So unless you maybe want to do a Skype call so I can show ytou in real time how to do it …

The only thing I can think of is your keyboard has two enter keys.  One for the text and one by a number pad.  SOmetimes Discord distinguishes between the two ???

No number pad. So just hit enter? In my case it just gave me a new line. Do you see anything from me?

Sorry, I don’t see anything.  I think this will require a Skype call.  There is no reason this shouldn’t be working, I’m on three servers and just sent about 20 images and messages.   I’m really busy this weekend 0 I have a game starting in 90 minutes I haven’t even started preparing for.  If you want, send your skype address to [email protected] and maybe we can fix this.

Well discord works now. Maybe I just had to wait for some delay based verification.

But, now the issue is becoming will the border be open by then? If not then going to Chicago for playing games will not be high on anybody’s get in free pass. So it is looking less likely I will be there to celebrate Valentine’s day. Sigh.
