@madman1960 I’m glad you posted your dislike and disuse of Facebook. I’m in agreement with you, I don’t use that website and don’t trust it at all.
I too was asking Big Jim the same question about the ‘Gaming Weekend’ and if the only place to sign up would be on Facebook.
I do understand if the team wants to keep it in just one place, but that will probably count me out if it is.
June 29, 2020 at 3:10 am #1544556Please have no fear, @templar007 – I have talked to @stvitusdancern on thus and we will be tracking any registration, table requests, system ideas, and other information on places other than Facebook.
For now that is here on this thread, out Sitrep Discord, and yes, on Facebook.
I too have a morbid leeriness and distrust of that platform, which is why for Sitrep I focus more on OTT, YouTube, and Discord. But no matter what, I promise we will have everyone covered with plenty of options for channels to interact and communicate with us.
Just bear in mind that this whole idea, while firm and fixed (February 19-21, 2021), remains in its infancy, and I don’t think any “official” registration has yet been initiated.
Put another way, no one is missing anything yet. 😀
Thanks for your interest and concern.
June 29, 2020 at 3:14 am #1544557Had a great stream with our community today. Check it out!
We use the great SSI “People’s General” system to imagine a “Red Dawn” type scenario. It’s May, 1977 … and in some weird alternate Cold War timeline, the Soviets have managed to get a sizable army in the American mainland, and are now attacking Fort Bragg, North Carolina!
Soviet VDV paratroopers have already landed behind us!
Can we stop the Soviet assault, using equipment and weapons available to the US Army at the time? Find out! And you can always join us LIVE on our Sunday wargames, not only to watch but PARTICIPATE in the actual game!

July 4, 2020 at 9:43 pm #1546737Well I went to the site and signed up. Never received a confirmation or a “bill” from PayPal for the deposit. Is that the same for anyone else or was I #51 out of 50 or ?
Also is there any sites covering ultra modern gaming anyone knows of? Dish Dash has closed their site, although it was more of an advertisement for Russian Viagra sites. On the lead adventure forum there is cold war but no real ultra modern except for future wars. Directions appreciated.
July 5, 2020 at 6:35 am #1546782@madman – I will ask @stvitusdancern about the registration and @grimwolfuk about the ultramodern sites.
July 5, 2020 at 12:13 pm #1546829For Minis – spectre, empress, footsore USA
Rulesets – spectre, singing, force on force and danger close
Colin has moved Sangin onto Facebook as they are showing off v2.0 or the rules that are playtesting at the moment. There are some youtube channel that has AARs of modern gameplay as well.
July 5, 2020 at 2:24 pm #1546889I don’t facebook as I don’t have a cell and when I tried to sign up it wanted my cell number. Well a couple weeks of that and I was a non entity. I think Oriskany is in the same boat.
Not looking for minis or rules (too many rules now and I do 15s and have plenty) more looking for discussion groups for ideas and thoughts. Thank you I knew Dish Dash was going FB but… well see above. I really like Ambush Alley games but same issue.
Thank you for the reply.
July 6, 2020 at 11:09 am #1547318a nice video didn’t NCIS have a show about a marine handing himself in saying he killed his friend during the fighting taking the island Jim.
July 11, 2020 at 7:47 pm #1549290Just listened to the latest podcast. Pumped that I was mentioned but somehow (Couldn’t find the point where it was mentioned) my offer to run Hind & Seek in miniature was converted into Northag(?). I don’t know that game. Other than some Soviet Afghan war stuff I haven’t played cold war ground combat since it was called ultra modern and frankly I didn’t care for it much then.
Please note, in order to make a game where the players don’t stand around figuring forces for an hour before gaming I was going to work up an entire scenario beforehand. I figure a couple players per side is what I could effectively run. Also this will not be a “typical” convention scenario as I will not be playtesting it and tuning for balance etc. It will be a pick up try the rules and period and have some fun sort of event and if I miss balance or make some similar mistake (hopefully don’t forget a unit’s worth of miniatures back home) don’t hang me. I was reminded during the pod cast to make a quick reference sheet for the game plus sufficient charts and tables so I have to be sure of that.
As for events I was thinking the weekend was more of a like minded people get together as opposed to an intense, detailed and get so involved you get psychotic if you lose kind of gaming. Been there done that in the past as I used to play Air Superiority at the Origin’s annual tournament for years. JD ran the games and an entire day (6+ scenarios) with the world championship title on the line. Seriously we had guys from the UK and as far as OZ come for this immersion into ultra modern air combat gaming. I know we had other gamers turning away due to our intensity and I know there are many other gamers playing many other games with the same kind of win or die mindset. Don’t want that, just a fun time to blow off steam.
Depending on how things shape u in the next few months I would be willing to run a scenario or two as an aside of The Speed of Heat which was the final incarnation of Air Superiority but limited to Korea and Vietnam. This is a detailed game which is not easy to teach so either just a couple guys at a table or guys with some time in the game. Of course micro armour miniatures as well.
Last please note I am travelling from north of Toronto. If this covid situation is still in effect in February I will probably not be allowed to cross the border. Of course if that is the case flights from other parts of the world may be impacted as well. I have to get a passport as your government requires that since 2001 whereas for the previous 40 years it was a simple task for Canadians to visit.
As you said on the podcast really pumped about this convention. Thank you for running it, and not too far away. Chicago is about a day’s drive each way. I did it before in 2000.
July 11, 2020 at 7:49 pm #1549292Oh yea. You mentioned other places you guys post and host other than FB. I went to the discord main page but couldn’t search for you. Can you please post the required links for discord and any other places you frequent. Thank you.
