Saw that and just thought “THUNK” 😀
May 20, 2019 at 7:06 pm #1392788And yeah, the bar at the back is to pull players around the arena, either to score or enter combat 🙂
May 30, 2019 at 6:04 am #1396519June 11, 2019 at 8:08 pm #1403565This is a scaled down version of the arena. We test play on a largr board but this one is for 32mm minis.
Its only the prototype and hope to get a full printed neoprene arena made in due course. The professional board will obviously have artwork on it too alongside texture.June 11, 2019 at 9:38 pm #1403588Sorry for the late reply about the first picture, looks a lot more “action orientated” than the previous one (still think you’ll have the serious painters after that one tho). Still think “Thunk” when looking at it (and that’s a good thing).
Board looks interesting, do the players move along the edges of each triangle (so they can make a 60 degree turn, and if they are going at a higher speed they have to do more “straight” moves before being able to turn again), or do they move from triangle to triangle (more akin to a board game)?
Funny how you have the transparent visors for the minis. Many moons ago, a couple of us looked at doing a Traveller 2300″ish” skirmish game basically redoing the Russian/Finnish wars on an ice planet. Our “gimmick” was going to be clear plastic snow visors (common across all models), but alas back then even tooling a small sprue was way out of our affordability range (I even had Pakistani Troops as UNSC “Peace Keepers, ah the game that could have been 😀 ).
Still nice to see someone having the gumption to carry their idea forwards and bring forth something physical from their creativity (rather than half baked ideas like we did). I’m really looking forwards to see how you are handling the movement of the bikes and skaters. Looking forwards to seeing more minis, well basically looking forwards to everything you got coming (I WILL be one of the first customers 😀 ).
June 11, 2019 at 10:08 pm #1403591Just a few more pics before bed!
Ill get around to giving you some answers tomorrow 🙂
Hope you like the Mutt-blood, these are additional genetically spliced humans. Canine splice are the most obedient but in our background, most animals can be spliced.
Anyway good to talk as ever and glad you like the action bike!June 13, 2019 at 5:26 pm #1404256Well there’s something I wasn’t expecting. Is this going to be a unique player, or are you planning on a whole team?
I suppose this could be a player/team created by a major Biology/Medical Corporation to show off their “expertise” rather than representing a Nation or City…..
June 14, 2019 at 4:25 pm #1404775Thats the beauty of the game, you choose what race and what position you want in your team. The mutt-bloods are optional spliced humans, they get an additional racial skill ‘pack’ able to reroll if in close proximity to another mutt-blood. The WALL again is a genetically altered human and optional in the game. Thete are a couple more races but they havnt been skulpted yet. There is backgrounds on the website if you want to get more info.
I thought it would surprise people as the vanilla team is human 🙂
June 24, 2019 at 3:10 pm #1407830Sorry for the late reply again, yup looks good. Also very clever way of implementing it into the game (this way if players are more “hardcore” hard sci-fi fans and don’t want to use them in the game. they have the option now (rather than having a whole team, which was my first thought)).
Going to be having any on table scenery elements like goals and/or mid-table walls (or is it a pure open field of play)?
June 24, 2019 at 5:40 pm #1407890Open field of play. There is a SIN BINs for players that breach rules and suffer time out. In the same area are reserved players and a medical bay for injuries.
These are situated in the middle board and all in the same place.
There are certain conditions including scoring that release other team players but its balanced to avoid snowballing a team.
Glad you like the Mutt-blood, they really are a fun element to any team and more than one can be quite the challenge to play against.
Lots of player specific skills and injury cards.July 10, 2019 at 5:34 pm #1413405Going to test the grid tracking rather than base to base this weekend to see how this movement system plays out.
July 10, 2019 at 8:59 pm #1413441Might be interesting to see. At first when you posted about the game (and because everyone was on roller skates) I thought the game might be totally free movement using turning templates akin to Car Wars (with 30, 45 and 60 degree turns) with how tight a turn you could make dictated by how fast you were moving.
But in this day and age I suppose such mechanics are a bit complex. But looking at the board and using a grid system I;m reminded of the old TV series “The Adventure Game” on the beeb with contestants being vaporised by “the vortex” as they navigated the grid while blindfolded 😀
Looks like your artist has been having fun with the poses 🙂
I DO like these updates (can’t wait until I can get my hands on the minis), and looking forwards to seeing how the game evolves.
August 4, 2019 at 7:27 pm #1421806I remember going to the Arena back in 86I believe for a game against UC. We were down at halftime by 18 or so. They had a kid named Roger McClendon and he destroyed us in the 1st half. Long story short…we came back
Hopefully just hopefully Unfortunately we now have Gregory and not Donoher.
August 4, 2019 at 7:57 pm #1421815Be interesting to hear how the grid based movement panned out after your play test (vs moving from square to square). I think this is probably going to be the last “big” game investment I’ll make for the near future (as the Lead Mountain is pretty ridiculous at Chez PhaidKnott). So I eagerly await more news on how the game is developing 🙂
