It does seem that in many ways taking on an IP is a “do or die” risk for many companies these days (with the IP owner able to yank the whole product line from under you). Seen too many companies go under due to investing in an IP only to have it taken away (AoG with Babylon 5, Mongoose with Starship Troopers etc). Its a pity as they had some nice sculpts, but Mutant Chronicles has always been a bit iffy in sales records for some reason (and resin minis can be a turn off for many gamers as they just aren’t hard wearing enough for the gaming table).

Going with their own IP seems a lot safer (although it does look a bit like a 40K knock off at first glance). But they going with plastic this time. HOWEVER to make their mark they really need to do something that’s NOT 40K (lets face it you’re not going to beat GW at their own game). Manga and Gothic are well covered. Hard Sci-fi perhaps?

Rules are another aspect. do they take a more lazy route (for content creation) and just do pointed army lists for tourneys. Or do they invest in  the paper side of things and do narrative campaign books that build on the universe (lets face it many KS launches these days are all about the minis and just provide a “serviceable” set of rules to push the sales of the minis.

Plus Prodos have had other problems with other IP (Aliens) that might have damaged their reputation in dealing with KS schemes and fulfilment (not entirely all their own fault as it sounds like dealing with the major Hollywood studios for approval seems to be a knightmare. And as far as the Studios are concerned the revenue from these miniature games is chump change (and thus isn’t a priority for them to deal with)).

For the news on Warzone not unexpected (it didn’t pick up in our area), for the news on their new self created IP…trepidation.

While this is shame it’s not really that surprising either. After all this was bound to happen at some stage sooner or later. Oh well maybe years from now some one will bring Warzone back again but with better success.

I’ve been waiting years for the Siege of the Citadel KS to ship from Modiphius. I wonder if they’ll pick up the rest of the Mutant Chronicles IP too?

Yeah Prodos itself is a bad marketing, but the marketing they did for Warzone sucked on top of that. And yes Licensed IPs are risky and something that after 25 years of hobby makes me stay away from companies and games.

At least they pulled the plug before the kickstarter got launched …

Starcide ? Anyone else think they’re combining Stargate + Dune ?

It may have a better chance than Warzone, but the market for small scale skirmish games is pretty full.
I kind of doubt a new IP is going to stand a chance against Killzone + SW:Legion to be honest.

Yeah hard no to their new game.

I have enough obscure scifi skirmishers taht are dead (Urban War, Rezolution, Gorkamorka, Warzone: Ressurrection :P) and then tehre are the ones I can actively play like Killteam,  Necromunda, 40k, Infinity, and then other active Skirmishers like WWX which hopefully soon enough will get its brother game simialr to Warhamchine and Hordes with the Dystopian legions factions.

Pretty sure Prodos announced the Prodos brand as a miniatures company has been retired and they weren’t planning to release anything new under that brand; warzone and AvP would remain. All new miniatures games and kickstarters would be (or rather have been) released under a different name and appear to have been fairly successful. I believe the Prodos brand was to be refocused on film props and effects.

I can’t say I am surprised by the announcement, visually it always looked too close to 40k for it to stand on its own.

Prodos stiffed a LOT of Kickstarter backers years ago on the initial AvP game, and I’ve seen posts recently saying some still awaiting stuff

Wouldn’t trust them with 50 pence of my money

Similar thing happening with a kicKickstar I’m involved in currently from Games Factory, and they have apparently admitted online they have been using funds from one project to help fulfill the previous ones

Companies like this deserve to lose all support from the gaming community in my opinion

Yeah, but they will keep changing names to put distance between themselves and unhappy KS backers.

Someone will ALWAYS be there to let others know who the bad apples are

They will NEVER shake off that Kickstarter campaign which is why they don’t use it anymore
