Maybe we need some popular tabletop war game media site to cover the game and do a few let’s play videos to show some examples of the ways to play? ?

Alpha Strike has Justin’s name written all over it.?

I think some demos Justin and John would be perfect, tanks and stompy robots seem right up their alley

@grimwolfuk , If you own a 3D printer yourself, all those exact minis are available on myminifactory.com as free files.

I have printed a ton of them and they turn out great.

these are all just quickly painted with contest paints and a quick drybrush so don’t judge them by their paint quality

@templar5836 they look great. Being able to print mechs and warships, both historical and scifi, is what would drive me to get a resin printer.

@captainventanus you need to take the plunge…you will have even more unused minis than you have now!

Got notification that the Dropship carrying my Star Colonel rewards is on it’s way – 11 Salvage Boxes, 2 Legendary Salvage Boxes and, most importantly, 4 Urbanmech Salvage Boxes. Oh, and a bunch of Lance & Star packs as well I guess 😉

    BWAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh, wait, you were serious? 😛

Actually to be fair this is a project I’m looking forward to taking a crack at – I already have the Wave 1 sets (couldn’t wait for all of my stuff to come in Wave 2 so picked them up from a retailer who had them in), plus the Beginner and AGOAC sets, and have an extra of the AGOAC minis coming in this delivery, so am going to be all ‘Meched up to the gills (an even so I’ve ordered a resin Sword & Board Black Knight off of Ebay). I still have to work on access to my painting area, but in the meantime I’m working out what I want to paint everything as – I’m one of those heretics who actually liked the Dark Age/Age of Destruction period, at least narratively, and am intrigued by where things will go in the IlKhan era. I am thinking though I’ll do a couple of forces for specific eras, doing a pair of Lances or Stars for each.

Many, many years ago we ran a campaign set in the Periphery with a local force of militia vs pirates. Set just before the clan invasion, even then we were using mechs out of the 3025 book (and felt ourselves to be lucky to get hose mechs). We “self nerfed” our game with a mech tonnage “max” of 65 tons (the BT grognards in our group said when you get to 70 tones that’s when the mechs really start to specialise and games get a bit “what you brought in your lance” rather than how you played on the table). So our Mechs were mainly lights and mediums with just a few heavies thrown in (again the “nerfage” was that Assault mechs, would only be house mechs and even then only if it was a BIG massive battle), we also had a fair amount of infantry (and as about 50% of our mechs were lights, they could form a viable threat, so you couldn’t just ignore them), and a fair few tanks and recon vehicles. Finally to make things even harder on ourselves we set this all in a badlands/desert biome (so losing heat was difficult (Hey….. we got to use MGs instead of small lasers :D).

And those BT games were the BEST we had EVAH!!!!!!!

Usually we see lots of 100 ton clan mechs, and games where it’s who brought the biggest toys to the table (Clan stuff really did mess up the game balance massively and was probably what triggered our whole “nerf the damn game” campaign we did). But playing on those hex maps with stuff you couldn’t afford to throw away as cannon fodder (even a locust was an asset to the militia forces who had a lot of infantry and vehicles trying to hold the line against the mainly mech and vehicle armed pirate lances). Ah those were the days…….. the chap who ran that campaign was a master, and managed to restrict the players without making us feel that we were “punished” for playing 🙂

I’m glad this thread is getting so many responses, it makes me optimistic that this Battletech thing might just catch on ?. But seriously people seem genuinely excited about Battletech these days, I know this might just be the natural buzz around a Kickstarter delivering, but it has the potential to grow into something interesting. I would love to see more coverage of the games here on OTT, but I guess that would depend on if CGL is sending any demo products their way. Seems like a missed opportunity if they are not. I have recently started reading some of the novels to get my head around the lore, and I have to say they are every bit as good as GW stuff, and dare I say more compelling for the fact that they are very human stories (makes sense since there are no aliens in the game). I have only dipped my toe into the game and all it’s lore but already it has really drawn me in more than GW every has with its unrelenting darkness.

Templar, might I recommend the Battletech PC game if you want a slice of the lore? It uses the updated mech designs, has an overall excellent aesthetic that sells the more “Game of Thrones – in SPAAAACE!” vibe, and involved a lot of long time Battletech creatives. Plus it has some excellent mods.

But yeah, I will be intrigued to see CGL carry on this momentum of interest.
