    01/10/19 Edit to lable work

First up some Grim Hammers. There are 12 in all. I bought them for an ex about 2-3 years ago and they were still here while she is not. I gave them to a cousin then and he has been scarce lately so I decided to keep them and paint them up. These have since been finished and I will be posting pics of them later today.

My kitbashed Sons of Medusa Primaris Captain: he has a Tartaros Terminator Power Sword, Devastator Missile Launcher backpack and old metal Iron Hand upgrade kit head. He has also since been finished.

A quick and simple objective marker I made for Warhammer 40,000. All the cannisters were loose pieces which I was afraid I would misplace so I just glued them together.

@somegeezer sent me some Catachan heads as I thought the ones that come with the kit are too cheap/playmobil looking. They will be added to my Mantis Warriors detachment, at least some day when I get weather for priming.

The terrain I finished building with my GF at her place. Space Marine for scale comparrison. Its a quick to build and impressively big kit.

And this was annoying enough to do so I wont be reordering the photos…

The bases for three Carcharodon… I cannot remember the name for themm. They have these backpack chute thingies and autocannons. I used the recipe from a GW Warhammer TV video for terrain, and have been using it for various things for some time. I love how they look.

My test Plague Marine. I love the colours and how it looks, but it is TIME consuming.

My friend’s Warhammer Underworlds warband. He did the basecoats but hasn’t called up for a painting session in months. I was getting sick of them looking at me from the shelf so I painted them up to completion. Pics to follow.

The ‘Not-Pokemon’ Kickstarter I backed: ‘Battle Monsters’.

The first one is based on the Pokemon, I reckon, ‘Slugma’ so I painted in the same colour scheme.

    30D6A1FC-FA37-41C5-AA26-CC0B71DDDAE1

All three together. There are about 15-20 more left in a box for a day suitable priming.

    5CEA9EE6-457B-48DA-803F-89F17E0813017162C62C-53A1-4BD1-B24B-1068CC91E115FC5DA02C-1D7C-490C-9918-AF406A26EB94A26B36E5-5ACA-41B9-B695-80E7E9FDD654

This guy appears to be based on Paras, so I gave him/her the same colour as the corresponding Pokemon.

    9E9F3E1A-F9E6-47A3-B6E3-4F840D9B6DA4D305C369-EC13-413B-A26E-694EAB3D806D909007DA-DB18-40AC-A79A-6FA5E1A1318AB34ADE7C-5C07-4983-873A-C64997435438

Finally the ‘not Bulbasaur’ that I painted, but did the bulb as an Ivysaur bulb (the slightly more mature evolved form of Bulbasaur’). I like how the skin came out and will do that on some Orks at some point.

    I went to a local ‘maker faire’ event today ( https://eindhoven.makerfaire.com/ )
They had a company doing demos with a really cool (and expensive) 3D printer

    Dutch3Dprinter

And yes … that thing was hanging from a thread and printing at the same time.
They even had a battery powered model printing while on a rotating platform just to demonstrate the stability of the thing.
There were a few flaws in the model that was printing, but given the abuse that thing had endured I’d be tempted to say that any of ‘cheap’ 3D printeres most likely would have failed.

It’s definitely proof that with this sort of stuff you get what you pay for (it’s not below the 500 Euro budget … ).
The thing is targetted at schools who want to use these things in classes. I’ve got to say that if I wanted a 3D printer then this would be the one I’d be saving my money for.

Death, an interesting topic. I’ve tried my hand at calling in dead to work, or as close as I ever felt like with effluent coming from both ends, which did work at least once.

    1. Terrain: There is a small amount of order that comes into play when setting up things for a skirmish game. In playing Malifaux there’s always some back and forth to the setup as you do vie for leverage in foresight to later play. I can only guess that with battle board settings it probably eliminates that element. I’ve recently picked up Warcry to try out at my FLGS and it looks like the same despite my notion that it has strong elements of Mordheim.
    2. Starter sets: I’d say they do have their place to get up and go for people who generally don’t collect and build or have limited chances to get out and play. I like the idea of having nearly matched forces to start off play with and then running wild with other crews/factions. Blood Bowl and Necromunda look like that. I’ve yet to get my hands on Guildball as I fell in love with the Butchers, building a collection slowly, and then grabbed a team of Alchemists on consignment for a damn good deal. That does remind me someone owes me a box set that I should follow up on.
    3. Book to film: Oddly enough Jurassic Park was the last one that I watched which I had read the book beforehand. I’m curious to see how the film “It” stacks up against the book. With all the improvements in CG I’d think that more and more films might well come closer to the printed material.
    4. Comedy sucks: I mostly agree. I just recently watched an Eddie Murphy special from the 80s on Netflix (Richard Pryor soon to be watched as well) and thought that the best comedy is offensive that takes the power out of polite humor. It generally is seated in our collective sense of guilty pleasure where we know we shouldn’t go but love to do so anyway.
    5. Comedy duos: As far as duos I don’t think that there’ve been many in the way of many in Western countries that I’m aware of for some time. Maybe the most recent could be Jeff Dunham, for American audiences, eventhough he uses puppets and plays as voice for both straight man and funny man roles. It might be easier to look to Japan with their tsukkomi and boke partners of manzai tradition (the inspiration for C3P0 and R2D2 in Star Wars from Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress).

For my pledge I will finish off my tiefling on display base and then get a basecoat for my superheroine. Yes, I’ve had my head down lately. I’ve been getting work issues and doing painting to try and get some ends to meet. Now, photos.20190929_23232520190929_23235920190929_23250720190929_23244520190929_232422

Could only throw so many out at one time. After the commission bear this Reaper Bones fig was good to play with. I took the shield off and repla ed it with a piece of plasticard that I sculptsd on for visual interest.

Ok, final display tiefling that I’m about to finish up. Yes, @oriskany there are reasons that we paint some figures.

Now what I’ll start on next to basecoat. The only thing I’ll need to add is the spider webbing around it after the paint is done. I can already see the final effects that will tie this figure to the base.

@ceppie – I have read everything by Poe and more than once! He rules. Did you know he wrote ‘the Raven’ backwards? H.P. Lovecraft used to romance his lady-friends upon Poe’s grave.

Ursula K. Guinn I think wrote ‘Lathe of Heaven’. The first time I was aware of it was the movie with ‘Joker’ from FMJ as the main character. The audio book is good too…I am getting into audio books!

The Beastman/Guardsman is my own work. I made a whole company when I was playing 40Gay. They had armour and transports. I made them before FW release the renegade Ogryns – their numbers were increased by 8 of those!

I am going to order some of those S&M minis for my dad’s collection. Weirdo.

Sorry you have to work…500pts to stop you from a shooting spree.

@sundancer – I love your spraying stand thingy. I will have to send a picture to my dad and he can make me a few. He is busy making shelves and cartridge storage boxes at the moment so has a load of wood in the garage! Jamie says he has shelved off one whole wall. It started when he had to move two rows of three shelves when he had a new door fitted…now it is a major project. It keeps him off the streets.

WOW! Walter the Wobot. 10000pts. Those Dredd minis rule. 200pts. I have the original GW RPG somewhere. That is a great game. I would love some better pictures…pretty please! Do you have the Dark Judges?

Bottom picture of the Judges, second from the left…with the club. Awesome.

I just scrolled down and saw them!!! FANTASTIC. 1000pts. DO THEY COME WITH ‘SPIRT’ VERSIONS TOO! (today is pocket money day)

@limburger – I suppose they have to be. If they were all really alien (to us) then they wouldn’t be easy to develop as characters!

The Centauri guy was either Londo or Vir. Vir was a brilliant character. He started as a real wimp, but turned into a Lion. By ‘Reptillian’ I think you mean Narn. Reptillian indeed. 500pts. The Narn, and especially G’Kar, are a really good alien race. Awesome spaceships too. Download a greasy copy and get watching. Watch the first movie, skip season 1, and off you go.

I’ll stick the rest of the picture up later. I found them by accident when I was looking for terrain. If I was still playing I would have bought the lot!

Well, you get the flying helmet and i’ll send you the goggles…I have a pair. Not original, but I had them when I was still riding my bike. I swapped to shooting glasses! Don’t forget the white scart too.

Those knob-jockeys on racing bikes shouldn’t be allowed. Either ride on the road or the path, but not both! Wankers. However, I was coming home from a trip to Whitby and saw two of those racing bikers overtake three lads on Vespa scooters.

Spandex is for old rockers and young ladies in cycling shorts. 1000pts.

I am tempted to look into 3D printing, but what I really want is a laser MDF cutter. Heather says i’m not allowed…yet.

@mage – Futurama is awesome. 1000pts. I noticed that South Park is on Netflux so I might start from the beginning. It is rubbish now.

    I love the fire surround!

Those chips look undead…I hope you didn’t eat them.

I love the Plague Marine with the Plasma gun…nasty. 500pts. I really do like those pipes. What are the ‘mushroom’ things?

    @woldenspoons – better late than never! 100pts.

    1. That is a new one for me. I could strafe my mums lawn and pond. Do you know how stupid she is…she was complaining to my dad that she saw a Frog on the lawn. Maybe it came out of the pond…I am sure I was swapped at birth.

    2. With Infinity, especially Ariadna, you just have to buy more. Then more. Then a couple of others. Etc, etc. 1000pts. F88K me running, I love Infinity.

    3. ‘Running with the Demon’ – never heard of it, but i’ll check it out. I watched the first version of ‘The Invisible Man’ last night. Brilliant book, but if he is invisible then how could he ‘see’? The light would pass right through the back of the eye and wouldn’t be sent to the brain. One of my other favourites is ‘Robinson Crusoe’ and I remember seeing a serial version when I was about 7-8 and it was excellent.

I used to read a few of the GW books. ‘Iron Warriors’ is by far the best I read, but many of them were great fun. The Heresey series started well, but it went nowhere.

I just can’t get away with ‘fantasy’. Inconsistant and boring. That is just me. I have tried over the years with a few different styles, but I just get bored with them almost straight away.

    4. You saw Bottom live. Jealous. I have seen a few of the live shows of YT and they are outstanding. Mitchell & Webb don’t do anything for me either – outside of Peep Show. I would also have executed all the dicks you see on things like QI, 8 out of 10, and those other scripted. They should have left Stephen Fry in the jail. Horrible man.

If you’re too bust with real life then that is fair enough. Reality blows, but you have to deal with it. 1000pts. Doing some bases is good enough for me if you get the town. I don’t have the strength to open a pot of paint never mind paint anything!

The ‘Cthulhu’ things are great. 500pts. I have seen a game called ‘Deep Wars’ that we think looks pretty good and we might give it a blast sometime in the future.

Depeche Mode – awesome. 200pts. Saw them when they first toured with ‘New Life’. Yes, I am that old. Brilliant live. Then came the heroine and Satanism.

Better not show Heather that MM video. Not good for her blood pressure!

@horati0nosebl0wer – ‘death’ is not good to be around! In any way, shape or form. It is one of those things that “sounds” cool when you are younger, but not when you have felt someones last breath in your face or you have to hold onto them and tell them they are going to be fine while their light is going out. Not so much fun.

    1. I suppose some games require a bit more thought than others. In some games the terrain actually means something more than just blocking LoS. 500pts. I do love the look of Malifaux. The background is very cool too.

    2. Another one of those things that is down to your own taste. I am not really that bothered about balance when it comes to it. Not many fights are balanced!

    3. I have not read JP, but I have read a few other books by MC. The Andromeda Strain is a good book/film.

    4. What is offensive? It can’t be offensive and funny at the same time. When it comes to offending people it is like shooting fish in a barrel. No, it is how you do it! Jerry Sadowitz is the master of doing this. I have seen him half empty a room with 3 jokes. He walked out and said, “How do you crucify an epileptic?” Someone walked out and Jerry added that he doesn’t care and there is no refunds. He is half Jewish and half Scottish – he added, “There are no Jews in my audience, they are all backstage counting the money!”

Oh, you crucify an epileptic on a swastika! Jerry said to someone else…”It says psychopath on the poster so what did you expect?” I think that is fair enough.

Jeff Dunham is about as funny as a dose of clap. Not funny. Japanese comedy doesn’t really work unless you speak Japanese. It is very cultural.

Awesome bit of painting and basing. 500pts.

Also, a really nice purple bum! That is some very nice highlighting. Another 500pts.

@sundancer – those Dredd minis rule. I was sitting in bed thinking about them!

@limburger – jokes that bad will get you banned. I’m surprised you are still here.

Joke: Hunchback of Notredame goes on a blind date. He meets the girl and she is so offended she slaps him (almost knocking him out) and then pukes on him. As he regains his composure he notices the chuck and says to the girl, “Did you do that?”, pointing to the vomit. The lady, with venom in her voice, says “Yes!” “Thank god for that, ” says QM…”I thought my hump had burst.”

A punishment device used by the British Army too. You place the man on top, but the top of the horse will separate the testicles. Try being sat there from sun-up to sun-down!

BLOODY HELL! I have just seen the most amazing trailer…there is a BBC mini-series starting next week. They have made a version of ‘War of the Worlds’ and it is set in Edwardian times! It looks good and my fingers are crossed.

I am sure they will do something to ruin the story, but the visuals will be great.

I missed to WotW wargame. I can’t remember the proper name either. The models looked great, but then I found out it wasn’t being made anymore. Knackers. Maybe this will kickstart it?
