@torros I think that we might just be able to forgive this death device on rock. There’s little else to balance it with.

@mage Good progress in the red. I find that sometimes getting a good blend is really tricky with darker colors.

@stainless001 Having a larger area is helpful but the smooth nature of those busts is a thing to be wary of. Check out Rafael Robledo on YouTube for some good airbrush work over various scale models. Its inspirational for me to look at larger models as well.

@limburger look into Kromlech for better pricing for single resin tanks you don’t need to start mortgaging for.

@mage a bit dark for my taste, but definitely great.

Is he holding a human or something in one of his hands ?

@horati0nosebl0wer those look a lot better than the Forgeworld equivalents …

@horati0nosebl0wer Thanks. Im not too bothered how nice or blended it looks for a finish, since Orcy things tend to have an in-world slapdash nature to them.

@limburger I get that it is dark but if it was too bright or vibrant then, personally, I think the model would look ‘off’ with the bright skin. At least I can play around with different reds across the army. I still have to paint the casualty’s clothes and hair…

@mage good point on that light skin tone.  I hadn’t looked at the skin tone you are using.
You’d definitely need something dark to contrast with that.

It’s weird that the ‘iron jawz start collecting’ is almost cheaper than buying those boarboys on their own, isn’t it ?
Sure, you’d get duplicate warchanters, but you get a nice horde of Orks with a few of those boxes.

@limburger I’ve been sitting on this for waaaay too long and I think this would be of interest. I figure that one of my younger brothers is going to be married and he’s joked about starting a business with tanks. It might be best to give him one that he can actually keep around the house.

I’m still kicking around with paint but its getting closer to done. The panel liner really has helped when I don’t want to overdo the touchea of GW Nuln Oil. It comes with 6 optional weapons to put on, variable exhaust pipes and a tanker that might pop out of the top. I’ve opted to magnetize the turret and each weapon option. The grot was too fiddly for me so I left him out. Soon enough there will be a Giftmas/wedding present (if they get a date settled).

@deaddave wow that thing looks even better with a bit of primer on! Can’t wait to see the end result.

Next year, can someone remind me to just do a warband or something? 2019’s project might have been a little ambitious… Having said that, other than the Orc warlord and 10 Black Orcs I now have everything else painted and ready to dip tomorrow. Will then spend next week basing all the things and should hopefully be finished by the 31st 🙂

@deaddave I see a lot of paint chipping in the future with that base coating. I don’t know your plans for color intensity but it might well be brighter than your ships. The amount of rust chipping will darken a red or yellow. Hell, you can punch up the definition with your wash and tone it down like a dirty car. I think the turrets will definitely stand out against the plating if you did them in metallics which you could ease back down with a touch of pigment. Good stuff for showcasing the advancement of Orky tech.

I will throw out small idea on backstory for how it came about. Weirdboyz, masses of them as a colony unto themselves in trying to get away from ” ‘eadbang” created their own moon of a spacehulk. Well, with ruthless kunning, some random freebooter kaptain took it upon himself to use his mekboyz to their utmost potential in attaching other spacehulks around this core of gestalt energy. With time this WAAAAGH! started to get more ‘eadbang going so there needed to be some kunning ruthlessness done for both protection from the Weirdboyz and what they do, so they were sealed off inside the building craft to occasionally be given food as well as new additions of orks found to be a little off like that, while turrets that discharged energy out into space. With so many Weirdboyz collected like this and more energy built as a nearly constant cloud of discharge in fire, not a totally bad thing to have so much killy shooting going on, it did stop so much lootin’ from going on. In order to solve this a great big ring of copper was twisted around the moon in order to bring some sort of stability to the energy which does work… kinda. The one main drawback has been the infrequent blast out of the front which has already obliterated a couple of moons about to surrender to the green onslaught. Greenskins in the throes of battle just can’t calm down quick enough to get the spoils of war sometimes.

Now for music to inspire the thought, if not the horrid vision of, orks clad in Japanese schoolgirl uniforms.

@evilstu Alas, the pain of painting armies is upon you. Yes, painting small numbers will help. So far everything has gone well in what you have to show. Good on you, my friend, the effort has paid off. Your basing will tie it all together in the end.

@horati0nosebl0wer I used car paint for the base, so it’s pretty tough ? and I like that fluff ??

going to paint it the same as the ork fleet, details all boltgun. Couple of washes of nuln oil, then sponge it all with Vallejo game effects rust (which is bright orange). Sweet and simple.

A few more days of official Orktober left and so much to be done. Everyone who’s still lurking toss a photo of what you’ve been working on.

They’ve had a matt varnish since this was taken so that’s helped a little but here goes:

Presently distracted by historicals, will get back to this lot and base on the weekend all going well.

Now hitting the same issue that @mage was running into with the dark armour on his mini – might need to pick out pauldrons in yellow or something on my Black Orcs to give a point of contrast. Don’t think that just edge highlighting in silver and the standard issue leather belts will be enough to add the level of colour differentiation I’m after.
