@oriskany , I’m playing Afika Korps (even have a hat though will have to hide the on symbol on it) if that helps.
Be funny if I’m the only one, but think @limburger is as well
Might be an idea to help Jim if everyone puts who’s hat they are wearing.
September 11, 2018 at 5:45 pm #1265646September 11, 2018 at 5:52 pm #1265658@bobcockayne : that’s correct. 🙂
A hat with a DAK symbol ? Is that a replica of actual German army hat ?
I can see how that would be *eh* uncool outside of re-enactments.So that’s at least 2 DAK forces confirmed
I can speak a bit of German if need be to confuse the enemy 😉I won’t be painting, but I’m definitely building as much of the army we’re getting on friday, because I want to maximize my game time.
Scenarios and such things will kind of depend on how easy it is to learn the basics and put them to good use.
Cheat sheets for scenario specific exceptions would be appreciated.
🙂

Definitely excited to see everyone getting fired up for the campaign! Just a please remember I’d like to keep this super-simple for a number of reasons.
1) I want to keep it easy to work with the existing tables that the team is building, and not “require” them to build any special tables to accommodate our campaign.
2) Many of us will be playing against opponents who aren’t participating in the campaign. When that happens, we have to make the tabletop scenarios “campaign agnostic” so as not to impose our campaign conditions on other people’s Boot Camp experience.
3) I don’t even know if I’m getting an army, or if I am, which one.
4) We’ll be limited in military realism and historical accuracy by the types of units people will have.
5) People may want to drop out of the campaign to play against other people or go back to painting, I certainly don’t want to make anyone feel obligated to put 110% into the campaign full time.
6) One of those people may be me, since I’ll also be recording interviews on Scorpions of the Desert and Tales of the Desert, etc.
Now, so it doesn’t feel like I’m dumping a bucket of cold water on everything …
1) When a DAK and an Eighth Army player in the campaign are playing on the same table, all bets are off. We can have the scenario do whatever we want. 😀 I’m picturing these to be the real set-piece “main event” battles of the campaign where we can really explore a campaign mechanic and tell a larger narrative.
2) During “free gaming time” I’ll be running at least one Panzer Leader table, western desert themed. However, if other people want to keep playing Bold Action and add MORE narrative to the campaign I’ll certainly keep it going for as long as people are interested and the studio remains open.
3) I also get the feeling that one we set up and start building our own “mega battle” on the campaign map, others will take notice and perhaps want to join. This is the OTHER reason I want to keep things super-simple. Just as we may have people want to drop out or take a break, I fully expect people to jump in DURING the boot camp and so want to the keep the infrastructure as simple as possible to give is this flexibility.
As anyone who participated in last Desert War boot camp campaign remembers, we had a constant flux of people jumping in, jumping out, then jumping in again.
And this video we shot on the campaign at the last boot camp isn’t the best on my part (God, I was a lot heavier then), but it explains some of the basics of where we’re coming from.

Don’t worry too much about being a “n00b” – that’s literally the point of a Boot Camp (and why they call it “boot camp) – it’s something of a crash course for lots of people who are new to the game (or for a new release that NO ONE is familiar with yet). 😀
September 11, 2018 at 11:11 pm #1265810@trewets : I’m a total n00b as well.
Ok, I’ve seen a few let’s plays here on this site so I get the gist of the game but that’s about it.
However the bootcamp is perfect for getting the basics drilled into you.
You don’t have to worry about any fancy extras or scenarios, because that’s optional.
Heck, even this ‘campaign’ is optional although it does add a lot of context to the weekend as random fights become a bit more meaningful.
At least that was my experience at the FoW 4.0 bootcamp.A bit of light reading :
September 12, 2018 at 9:38 am #1265931@limburger yup , when brought it of Ebay it looked like the symbol under the Eagle was blank but was in blue so didnt stand out. might bring it for reference for painting only.
I have a modern Camouflaged Austrian one, looks more Western Front but no symbols so will wear that one, its close enough.
Think will be re-reading the base rules next, week have played them but was a bit ago.
September 12, 2018 at 9:56 am #1265982I believe that the Warlord stuff will be released the weekend before the Bootcamp at the Warlord open day which I shall be at playing in the Blood Red Skies Tournament so hopefully I will not get seduced into buying more stuff….
September 12, 2018 at 7:54 pm #1266231@commodorerob : not buying stuff at an event promoting Warlord games?
Not going to happen … unless you lose your games and want to get out of there real fast 😀
@bobcockayne : the figures are only 28mm … no way you can paint a symbol on a cap 😉
September 13, 2018 at 10:36 am #1266478@limburger , never tried the swastika but putting and eagle symbol on no problem!
Heck I hand paint little white unicorn heads on all My Raven Guard Space Marines.
September 13, 2018 at 11:35 am #1266499@commodorerob it’s already released, one of my club mates got his week before last. I’d have preordered but I’m not sure what we’re getting at the bootcamp so I decided to wait.
September 13, 2018 at 11:47 am #1266519@avernos ok I thought it was not out yet, my mistake 🙂
