@piers I hope they get better soon.
Local post services are claiming it’s extremely busy, so we will have to see how long it is going to take before it arrives in country.
I’m not worried.
November 2, 2024 at 6:48 pm #1901385I’ve not heard anything about my copy yet 🙁
I have plenty to be getting on with however so it not the end of the world.
November 2, 2024 at 7:38 pm #1901389I’ve also heard nothing, beyond comments on LAF that PSC is short-staffed. Got a set of the Death From Above cards the other day. Ordered them from an eBay seller, for less than Amazon’s price. I think it was actually the same seller, come to think of it.
November 2, 2024 at 7:39 pm #1901390@collins Anita emailed me on 25 October, and I’m in western Canada. I’m expecting mine late this week, maybe.
Canada Post however has a strike pending, so I hope it comes before that.
November 2, 2024 at 7:41 pm #1901391@tokyoghoul yeah the seller as it turns out is UK based. It wasn’t a huge difference I don’t think for my deck. The cool factor outweighs it, right?
November 2, 2024 at 8:30 pm #1901392I’m in the UK, which explains the price I paid – £8.50 – a little over $10. The variety of prices I’ve seen for these and Tactical Field cards is quite remarkable.
I imagine some enterprising manufacturer could come up with their own themed card set or sets, possibly tied to various branches of service, e.g. Marines, Rangers, Aitborne, and foreign contingents and many of us would buy all of them.
November 2, 2024 at 8:52 pm #1901393I paid $26 Canadian, which is a bit high. But meh.
£8.50 would be like $17 Canadian right now. Our dollar is in the toilet again.
Most regiments do playing cards, the options are out there. Regimental swag is always fun.

November 3, 2024 at 5:31 pm #1901449I was thinking of $US. Sorry to hear about the state of yours but it’s probably better than sterling.
Incidentally, I understand that the number of Canadian volunteers in Vietnam was about 15,000, i.e. more or less the same as the number of draft-dodgers who escaped there. Irrelevant but interesting, I feel.
November 3, 2024 at 7:10 pm #1901456Yes – I know several Canadians who served there, and also some Americans who left because of the war, but joined the Canadian army. There was a large exhibit at the local military museum (2nd largest in Canada) on the Canadians who served. In a book I have on the USMC, there’s a photo identified as a Montreal native who served!
Both stories are interesting.
November 4, 2024 at 4:54 pm #1901577Thanks for that. As you doubtless know, one of the draft dodgers – a somewhat unfortunate term, I concede – was William Gibson. I wasn’t aware that others had joined the Canadian army, which seems a slightly odd choice on the face of it. FWIW I only became aware of the Canadian volunteers through the novel Matterhorn, which includes a character known as Vancouver. (I don’t think his real name is ever given).
In other news, I received my copy of the book today, before I’d seen the email informing me it was on its way.

November 4, 2024 at 5:41 pm #1901591And here they are. Sad to relate,I currently have no figures in a usable state and – aside from the 1/72 Esci US infantry – most don’t fit the rules’ criteria. I have a handful of 28 mm metal minis: in terms of infantry, less than a squad of USMC (I think) and a mortar team (sans mortar) from an OOP range, a single pack of Empress LRRP and a couple of packs of NVA; in vehicles, the Esci 1/72 M113 ACAV and 1/50 Corgi M48, currently disassembled for maintenance. In short, a game is not imminent.

November 4, 2024 at 6:24 pm #1901594November 4, 2024 at 6:51 pm #1901596nice to know that things are moving forward 😀
I wouldn’t worry about having the ‘exact’ minis in the ‘exact’ scale. It’s not like the secret service will come a knocking when you use the wrong minis 😉
I guess I will be watching my mail box more often now 🙂
November 4, 2024 at 8:12 pm #1901598I’m sure you’re right, but I have nowhere near a platoon’s worth of US troops, other than the Esci ones, which would be fine, except that I never bought their VC, and don’t know how easy – or economical – it would be to source them, or an equivalent, if such exists.
This can all be rectified in time, of course. My more immediate concern is the material that requires printing. I can see no sign of it on PSC’s website, which at the moment is fairly understandable, though I would like to get a clarification of when downloads will be available, as I think they should be for verified purchasers.
I’d be inclined to enquire via the forum but it still appears to be inactive. Indeed there is a strap line saying “Forum’s subscription has expired”. I hope this all amounts to mere teething problems, but we shall see.
