I am having a wee break from mass painting fantasy miniatures. My brother gave me the Roboute Giulliman model to paint for him over a year ago and it’s become a bit of a running joke that I am always too busy doing stuff for various games and events to do it. So I decided to make a start.
I know that the plastic kit has had a lot of stick, particularly because of the head. However I always maintained it was the painting of the face that let it down rather than the sculpting.
The gold on the armour is going to take fucking ages.

September 17, 2019 at 10:37 pm #1437306So these three dudes will be for the coming weekends thread, hopefully. The need some cleaning, filing and gap filling (liquid green stuff) before priming. Hopefully they will be primed by the weekend and ready for painting. I’m hoping the weather is good enough for spray painting by the time the liquid green stuff dries and all the work is done.
In the last week and a bit ish I have given these all a few passes with Chaos Black to get an even consistent coverage, followed by Leadbelcher (GW’s gunmetal spray can) in a few passes as well. This took time to dry and they got several thin coats. Since there is some 41 models and I have a limited amount of box lids I had to rotate and kind of do one batch at a time. Unpictured are two Bastions (40k forts) that got the same touch. It was time consuming and about one or half of one days worth of work spread out over a few (with work and unsuitable weather for priming on other days.
More Bikes being prepared for priming for my Mantis Warriors Outrider Detachment (or whatever it is called, hard to keep track of the names)
I deliberately mish mashed different marks of armour together (though some like the Iron Armour have a few complete suits together) to make it look like the marines had been patch working their armour together. The idea with this force of Astral Claws is that they are from toward the end of the Badab War and defending one of the areas on the outskirts of the Palace of Thorns (the Chapter Keep) from the Loyalists. They will be manning defence lines and Bastions as a static firebase force so I have started with a three squads of Devastators and two ten-strong fully kitted tactical squads. I had a few dudes leftover with mostly special weapons so they will be a command squad with a lot of firepower.
After being sprayed they got a drybrush of Necron Compound. All of them have been done up to this stage. Some have received a 50/50 mix of washes: Nuln Oil and Nuln Oil Gloss. It makes them look pretty good. Ill take better close-up shots when they have all come on a little bit more but for now they need some work. Some of the models have received a coat or two of Kantor Blue on their shoulder pads.
There’s also a dude with a Thunder Hammer and Stormshield who leads the army and will be a Lieutenant or something.
My basing material finally arrived in the mail and I finished the base on the objective marker, 3 flight bases for my Carcharodon jump infantry and Forgefiend. It feels good to get them done after waiting on the basing material (which I thought I had more of and ran out of). They took a while to dry due to the nature of the material and then got a drybrush and a touch up of the base rim. The forge fiend took longer with the larger area of the base so he will be done tomorrow.
A kitbashed Sons of Medusa captain. I love how the green came out. I did this guy last night while the gf painted her Nighthaunt.
I did work on ‘Not Bulbasaur’ today and he is almost done. He recieved some washes and other paintwork since and will be finished imminently.

I just heard from Jamie, @unclejimmy ‘s son, and Darren is in hospital. He has been since last Sunday. Jamie said he may be out today — just waiting on word from Heather about this condition.
Get well soon @unclejimmy . The internet needs you!
