@ceppie I will try and take some close ups later. It was painted the old fashioned way. I used a little bit of contrast on the hair and beard as a base before highlighting it up. Contrast Paints are kind of like inks so you can combine them with regular paints to get some nice effects.
September 15, 2019 at 6:50 pm #1436135Trying to find my motivation but wrecked
set up my work area, have one plague marine ready to do TIL completion as a test model and two finished battle monsters
September 15, 2019 at 8:37 pm #1436198September 15, 2019 at 10:13 pm #1436252@ceppie The APC is on the To Do list.
Been trying my hand at some more advanced converting by sculpting a face and some hair. The head is far too big and I gave him some sleeves so the head doesn’t appear as big – it didn’t really work!
Trying to have less duplicates in the Chaos Warband – different enough for not a lot of effort. .
September 15, 2019 at 11:05 pm #1436254@robert for all of the faults you may perceive with it, at least when I look at it I can tell its a face. You should see my sculpting. Good god but I think my toddler daughter could do better
September 15, 2019 at 11:08 pm #1436258@mage any particular reason you’re struggling for motivation? I know how it can be sometimes, I have good days and bad days and sometimes I have to drag myself to my desk to paint
September 15, 2019 at 11:17 pm #1436259I have been quiet today. Was working this morning, just sorting crap out of the garage.
But I did get to my brushes eventually. This weekend I have mostly been painting my plastic Elves and basing my Barbarians.
I don’t quite know why but I spent a bit longer than I thought I would on these bases, especially seeing as I speed painted them using Contrast Paints. I wanted them to look like the wildlings off Game of Thrones.
I also painted some tiny furniture. The desk isn’t quite finished but the chair is pretty much there.
September 15, 2019 at 11:22 pm #1436260@ceppie are these shots any better?
I think that is about as good as I can do with my phone.
September 16, 2019 at 4:08 pm #1436619Good Morning All!
Checked all the boxes yesterday. Got my schoolwork down, did everything I had to do in the yard till we get our first frost, and managed to get a plasticard edge on one of the two game boards. It’s very time consuming. I think next time I will go with contact cement, rather than a glue gun, and I may use some cheap linoleum tile rather than plasticard. I also got a base colour down on the rockwork.
@mage you get more done when you’re not motivated than I do when I’m pumped! How many of those beasties do you have? Looks like you’ve been doing a fair bit of conversion work too!
@robert try painting that model before you discard it out of hand. You may find that you can pick out the detail, or even create it, with a brush. You’ve definitely got the skills for that.
Also, don’t despair if you’re not happy with it. We learn more from our mistakes than our successes.
@onlyonepinman thanks so much for the close-ups. Very nice work! I can’t believe how much you accomplished while chatting online on Saturday! I could never do that. I find I’m easily distracted, especially with a computer nearby. Suddenly I’ll remember a miniature that I want, and will look it up to see if it’s still available. That can domino into an hour of ogling miniatures online, followed by a search for music, followed by catching up on this thread. Then I’ll go get a beer. It goes on and on…
I took the day off, so am hoping to get a wash down on those game boards, and maybe work on the edge of THE LAST BOARD! It’s been quite a project. I already have an order for another set; I quoted a ridiculous price and the guy didn’t blink so I may have to give it some serious thought. I was hoping to do my own boards next, but I learn a lot with every bit of terrain I make, so in the end I suppose doing terrain for others can only improve my own.
HAL has some great tunes today.
Off to run some errands, and then bury my face in the books for a while.
September 16, 2019 at 5:07 pm #1436624I see the internet ate my previous response to @onlyonepinman earlier. Back to typing…
September 16, 2019 at 5:33 pm #1436674Operation Market Garden 2019 : 121 pictures … and only one that was out of focus. I call that a win 🙂
And I didn’t even capture half the jeeps and trucks. One small tank … M24 Chaffee (right ? I think it’s the same one I saw 5 years ago)
One of many bikes :
Lots of ambulances :
And all shades of green with a few interesting camo patterns :

@doctorether That terrain board looks amazing
@ceppie Nice model on page 2. Is it a Giant from Reaper bones? The board looks striking
@robert How did you find Typhus to put together? Nice conversions also
@onlyonepinman Im loving your Barbarians and Elves, reminds me of classical fantasy and are very striking. They further remind me of some of the art Tolkien himself commissioned for Middle Earth.
Meh, I’ve been in ‘bad form’ for the last few weeks.
@unclejimmy The infinity models are looking great
@ceppie That is very kind of you to say. Those beasties? About twenty-thirty, I went all in on the Kickstarter. I backed it last December and decided to give it a go then get Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress.
Conversion work? Which models? Forgive the confusion, I’m pretty unfocussed today.
@limburger Awesome pics, thanks for posting them.
Sorry to anyone I missed or skipped over.
September 16, 2019 at 6:21 pm #1436734@mage Same thing happens to me all the time! I lose my internet connection, both at work and at home, so when I submit I get the ‘Page not Found’ thing. When I try and go back all my stuff is wiped out. Now I type in Word and copy/paste into the thread.
@limburger That’s a great looking Chaffee. Well restored. Don’t quote me on this, but I think it was the replacement for the Stuart light tank, which they took lessons from for the design of the Chaffee. It’s definitely got a more modern pedigree and silhouette. I believe it was also air transportable, but I’m not sure in what. @oriskany would know more about it than me. He could probably tell you when it rolled out, how many were made, frontal armour, and top speed off the top of his head!
You’re right; that’s an odd cam pattern on the side of the truck. It looks like they’ll be putting on a puppet show for the kids.
@oriskany I wondered where you went. You don’t see many Falklands battles at that scale. Very cool.
@onlyonepinman I forgot to mention: not many people can paint to a standard where it still looks good under close scrutiny, as you’ve accomplished in those photos. I also find it amazing, with my own models, how a camera can completely f*ck up what looks like proper blending to the naked eye… especially with a flash.
Back to school!
September 16, 2019 at 6:27 pm #1436745@mage I tend to use notepad … much faster than waiting for Word to start 😉
Using off-line editors when posting (long) messages is the one thing anyone learns the hard way … 😀More pictures ..
Not sure what this is :
I think I saw this one in the video posted by @robert
Landing craft
Lots of jeeps … I think this is British
September 16, 2019 at 11:06 pm #1436873@ceppie not everything I paint looks good under a close cam lol. I hate High Resolution pictures because they really show off all the bad bits.
