@mage drybrushing and washes can be all you need for good looking minis
I’m really liking how your Forgefiend is coming up too.@unclejimmy I see @mage answered your Vespero question. A nice little set that. I liked the leader, thought he’d make a good assassin. I still have a set unpainted here. Though I sold half the minis in a period of scarce finances. Couldn’t bring myself to sell the whole set though.
No, you didn’t say just TV, but I couldn’t think of much else I enjoy watching. Maybe the rain falling for a little while. It’s a uncommon enough sight here. I’m also reminded of this guy:
I remember Millennium, started watching it here. The network pulled the usual run it for three weeks then shunt it off to late night TV, random timeslot hell. That was the end of that… Yeah the guy in the wheelchair (John Locke was the characters name) in Lost was in Millennium, and he did turn up in the X-Files too, a couple of episodes and the first movie from memory. I never saw the second X-Files movie either.
Aussie movies definitely have their own style. ‘Salute of the Jugger’ and ‘Malcolm’ stick in my brain from my youth. I think I watched ‘He Died with a Falafel In His Hand’ but I don’t remember clearly watching it… I saw it live. It was a Pub Theatre staple in Balmain for yeeaarrs. My ex goes to see comedy at the cinema, that’s who. It was Always a point of disagreement in our relationship. And don’t even think about suggesting that I go see a movie that I want to see on my own! Why aren’t I taking HER to the cinema? No, she doesn’t want to watch *that*, she wants to see something funny.
Mind you, to be fair, we did see The Two Towers at the local while it was on. Late night showing, near the end of the run when everyone else had already seen it. There was a solo couch in the perfect viewing spot in this particular cinema, and we were the only people in there.D&D didn’t go according to plan, but it did go. So, we had an interesting online session over Discord and Roll20, which Steve and I had never used before. Steve was the DM!
Lovely cat!
The last thing a bird sees, or something like it:Not sure if that’ll load?
Any way, most of my day off yesterday and this evening has been spent with tedious online training sessions. A requirement of work. And one of the bloody modules wouldn’t recognise that I’d done it >:-(
Tomorrow evening I’ll be back at my desk putting paint on minis. All will be good.September 3, 2019 at 3:04 pm #1432064@rayzryr I cant bring myself to post proper pics of it without the base being finished first 🙁
September 3, 2019 at 3:11 pm #1432065Good Morning All!
A fairly productive long weekend. I got my five starship crewmen built and primed, along with a pair of mini-gun tractors to roam the halls of enemy starships. The turrets were already set up to be magnetized, so I fought with them for an hour to make it happen. Fiddly crap. I hate doing it, but love the result. Here’s the website version. Mine will be navy blue with black tracks and steel wheels. They’ll be shiny compared to their army counterparts.
I also got work done on the battle boards. I’ll get some pics up as soon as I can.
@unclejimmy we’ve had heavy rain and cloud cover the last few days, so our satellite internet has been spotty.
First and foremost, I hope you feel better after your hospital stay.
You’ll be sad to hear that one parcel of land across the way got sold (one 10 acre patch still left), and I had a run-in yesterday with the new owner and his boy-toy commando wanna be. No sooner did he buy the place than he showed up with an arsenal of semi-auto weapons. The two love birds proceeded to shoot up the place, forcing me to have a ‘chat’ with them about how peaceful the area was, and how there were plenty of gravel pits where they could play soldier.
The shooting stopped for a while, but they fired a few more rebellious rounds before fleeing.
They were also not very bright. They had no idea they had bought a swamp (even though half of it is full of cattails), and wouldn’t go into the bush more than a hundred yards, as they got lost their first visit and blundered onto a road a mile away and had to walk around to their vehicle. They couldn’t identify a single tree species.
They almost shot Aran because they thought she was a wolf *rolls eyes*. They put up a teepee- style shelter to sleep in but didn’t cover it, and are going to “build something more permanent next year”… if I can’t convince them to leave. Vi and I are already looking at selling; I moved to the area to be rid of shit stains like that.
Something else I watch on TV lately: Battlebots. Not sure why it’s addictive, but it’s great fun watching two machines tear each other to shreds. Uber violent, but no one gets hurt. I’m sure they’re sponsored by one or more governments’ military R&D departments.
2112 story. Yes, I read it, but it was a long time ago!
Did you get your Traktor Muls tabletop ready? Final pic?
Rosie looks a lot like Scipio.
@tuffyears What do you think of the contrast paint? I’m told it’s blotchy on larger surfaces. I like your colour combo.
@mage nice work on the Forgefiend!
Your ambition is putting us all to shame!
New Trek? Do you mean that Discovery garbage? The plots and subplots are hard to follow if you don’t watch every episode. Also, [removed by mod PM us if you have questions] @unclejimmy I saw the Patrick Stewart/Ricky Gervais thing. It was hilarious.
@rayzryr Happy belated Father’s Day. I agree that spending time with the kids is the best thing ever. My grand babies are in Kingston Ont., a 24 hour drive, so we don’t get to see them often.
@limburger B5 is my all time favourite sci-fi series. It’s brilliant. I would highly recommend binging on Netflix.
[removed by mod PM if you have questions]
@doctorether thanks for all the eye candy! Against the lighter background those wings look translucent. Are all those undead GW? I recognize the crowned figure in the middle. Fabulous paint job on those as well.
Beautiful pics of you and the missus!
I can see my online classes starting today. Woot!
September 3, 2019 at 3:33 pm #1432069Thanks for the compliment.
Ambition? Did I make a huge pledge I forgot, again?
Watch ‘The Orville’. It is not Trek, but the joke is, is that it is the best non-Trek Trek which is out at the moment. The Orville (a Seth MacFarlane, Stre Trek-eqsue ‘original’ show) has bad critical reception and stellar fan reception, while Discovery has stellar critical reception and bad fan reception.
September 3, 2019 at 3:41 pm #1432072Valid point with Doomsday. Ever hear of Itlalian Spiderman? No powers but has a shotgun.
Those are ‘Warp Talons’, Raptors who have become daemonic and bestial.
Hmmmm… interesting with the Helldrake…a text wont do any harm.
Love the arrow story.
Did the officers think they were posh jockeys or something?
£200 it is! Positive day so far, so?
Try one episode of Mr Mercedes, you may like it.
The Terror sounds good. Never saw ‘The Man in the High Castle’
Gamestop have done stuff like that recently. Cost cutting, sadly.
I may or may not try that with my arm. Unfortunate to hear about your arm and getting comfortable.
If you explained that to your instructors and classmates Im sure it would be ok. If you want to do that that is. Could be fun and do you a world of good if you stick it out. Wooden man might also work though. Maybe start with that. What kind of lathe is it?
So it was a fight eh? That sounds vicious with the roadsign.
Protective gear is always better sparring. Accidents always happen. They ensure safety.
She’s some vampire chick named Durham Red. Copyright trademarks I would imagine.
Hair transplants? I thought he just died it badly.
Ah, that is a Vaporeon, painted as a shiny (super rare) Vaporeon. The Pokemon.
Mollie is also a narcotic. So tell the family ‘Im just going out for some Molly’ and then leave the dog behind. If they know what it is they will be quite alarmed, haha.
September 3, 2019 at 4:43 pm #1432077@ceppie yeah, those are all GW undead. The one lot is the Nighthaunts, the other are Legions of Nagash (consisting of some standard undead skellies from the current set, the more dynamic poses are the Sepulchral Guard, and the Wight Lord).
September 3, 2019 at 6:25 pm #1432102@unclejimmy both shows were new at that time and DS9 was willing to go places that TNG didn’t.
If B5 had been on a more reliable (and compatible schedule) I’d definitely would have watched that show.
Best thing was that they were making good use of CGI when TNG only ever had a few bits and re-hashed scenes.
Voltron (?) or whatever that alien was called in B5 was fun.I watch too little tv as is to make getting a subscription to Netflix worth the money.
OTOH I’ve heard good things about some of the shows that are on there, but I’ve also seen the list of random shows and movies that get dropped for no reason other than someone else has an exclusive deal. *grrr*
However the major hurdle is that I’d have to use the Dutch Netflix … and last I heard it had not even a tenth of the content that our American brothers & sisters get.If only tv-cable companies would allow me to pick my favourites without adding stupid stuff like Turkish tv I might reconsider.
@ceppie I think it is knowing him/her/it before the change is what makes it terrible. Didn’t get the impression that he/she/it/whatever was unhappy, but then I doubt it’d show on tv-series. I hope he/she/it is happy with the choices he made though.
I did see a demo for the new Fiasco boxed set on kickstarter and everyone was introducing themselves with a list of pronouns, because apparently it is wrong to call a woman ‘she/her/hers’ and a man ‘he/him/his’ …
Seriously, WTF ?
I really don’t get what the heck they’re worried about TBH. I’d say if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck it is a duck.(period)
If there’s any doubt then you either get a thick skin or stop dressing like the opposite of who you are.September 3, 2019 at 6:45 pm #1432103@limburger I am sorry to disagree on pronouns. Sex is not equal to gender. Especially when people are at the start of reassignment surgery or waiting for surgery. Is it really too much of an effort to respect a person’s choices? Is it harming you? Or is just something you find annoying because in the good old days only cis-het-white men were the only gamers?
September 3, 2019 at 7:29 pm #1432111@doctorether you look familiar, did you ever work in Cheshire/Manchester?
@unclejimmy Hoorah to our Ariadna upgrades. Link teams of Unknown Ranger and Minuteman? I run both of them normally, now even better.
September 3, 2019 at 8:30 pm #1432114@mage – NEXT! No, that is pretty good. 200pts.
Italian Spiderman? Does he swoop backwards?
Dave is a knob-end (in a nice way) when it comes to stuff like that. He has loads of swords and once swung a No-Dachi at my head so I could “see what it sounds like”. At least that is better than my dad shooting himself in the hand. What a tool.
Right, I will download the first three episodes, but if it is terrible then on your head be it…
You never watched TMitHC? Do it now. It is totally amazing. Series 3 had me sweating! Plus you get to see Nazi New York.
You might be right about the training. I might have to look about and see what is available. The lathe will be for metalworking. He makes/renovates guns and ammunition. I am sure it is German, but it needs to be set into the floor before he uses it!
Where he used to work, when I was a teen, the machine is set into 20ft of cement and they had to get the Royal Marines to come and blow it free when they had it replaced.
Numan is a massive plastic surgery fiend! He says so himself.
So is ‘Mollie’ the same as the devils cabbage? I did find a rather well constructed ‘lung’ when I was out walking the Puggos. They had used a Waitrose bag too. Classy.
@rayzryr – Dave used to say that “drybrushing” was the work of the Devil! So, I learned how not to drybrush. Now he is a drybrush fiend. Should I give up?
That is the only one I have from that set. Bought it in a 2nd hand book shop I used to go to…he was £1.25. Jamie and I are tempted to play Mordheim since I found some old minis.
It likes to rain here! Up in Scotia ‘raining’ is a national sport.
Millennium here was on at 0205hrs twice a week , but in the TV guide it was just listed under TBA. I love it. Series 1 is very scary and very heavy. I admit that I like the religious aspects to it!
‘Malcolm’ was one of the first ones I saw. Creepy without you even thinking it is.
When Heather and I used to go to the cinema it was always to see good stuff. She doesn’t like all that rom-com-drom-schlom rubbish. She loves Predator!
Well, take it easy at work! 200pts.
@ceppie – I remember you…
That drone rules. Very Ariadna. 500pts.
Thanks…it was just another one of those things. They take me there automatically! Nice staff always.
You are thinking of moving? Will you find somewhere as awesome as you have?
In the UK we have ‘Robot Wars’, but it is not the same…Jamie loved it when he was a boy and collected all the models!
The Traktor Muls are still awaiting my attention. Maybe tomorrow. The new set came today too.
@limburger – I think you mean ‘Vorlon’. Ambassador Kosh in his encounter suit…wait until you see him out of it!
I did watch an excellent Dutch movie where the rain carried a biological weapon that made you loose your memory. Scary stuff when you think about it.
Is the guy in the Fiasco vid Michael Scott after he discovered Meth?
See, if it walks like a Duck and sounds like a Duck then it might be Boris Johnson.
@doctorether – now, now, girls…play nice! Some of these people are ‘real’ and probably suffer quite badly because of it, but the ones I see making a fuss are just dicks! Jessica Yaniv…needs to be in the jail.
It is true that gaming is just for white people. Prove it otherwise. I know one non-honkey – a Chinese lad called Bobby. Where is the diversity?
@woldenspoons – Minutemen rule! That certainly makes a difference.
September 3, 2019 at 8:34 pm #1432116New and older minis…
Antipode Assault Pack ‘Handler’.
New Shazvastii.
Tasty stuff.
September 3, 2019 at 8:43 pm #1432117@doctorether Then I do know who you are. You taught me zenith shading for my old nurgle demon army. Genuinely a painting inspiration for me. Cheers dude. Not sure if you remember but I used to frequent Altrincham GeeDubs too. Small world.
@unclejimmy careful, there is a fine line between satire and prejudice. Please, for the sake of a worldwide company’s forum avoid any negative stereotypes and name calling. For penance I want to see your unknown Ranger painted as an ethnic minority.
@mage nice to have you back for reals.
September 3, 2019 at 9:48 pm #1432121@unclejimmy ah vorlon … that’s the one. Creepy b***
@doctorether I fail to see how pronouns matter in a tv-show where the people involved are going to be playing a role with a gender that need not match their current identity anyway.
As such it was more too much information that really was not needed.I’ve lost track of the amount of times people called me ‘miss’ whenever I answered the phone. I could get angry about it and such or I could accept it that people who don’t know me make mistakes and move on.
I’ve also noticed that the more people obsess about having the correct label the more racist and sexist they actually are.
The media are doing it too by supressing that info and thereby ensuring that the moment they call a suspect ‘white male’ (like they did in the recent shooting incident in the USA) the more obvious is that the average crime is committed by non whites …To me the only place where gender matters is when you need to reproduce or at the hospital and they need to decide where your vital organs are so they know what to cut, where to stick a needle and what drugs to prescribe so their hormonal balance isn’t destroyed.
On-line or in a tv–show or movie ?
I don’t want that info, unless it is relevant for the story.//
September 3, 2019 at 10:01 pm #1432122I can’t quite believe I have to say this again (and seemingly it looks like the idiotic content has been removed) but I’m going to have to wade in here again and spell it out again just what folks need to keep in mind.
I would have assumed that mocking those who want to be identified by different pronouns and making a joke about Lynette Nusbacher in so much as also then stating that you are annoyed that someone ‘infiltrated’ your group would be pretty much not on and that would be common sense. Clearly that is not the case.
Look. We’ve said this before, and I will say it again…BoW/OTT is working to be inclusive, friendly and open to everyone. It is a broad church. That means everyone is welcome but NOT if it comes at the expense of someone else, be it a group or an individual.
This is the SECOND time we have had to step in and deal with this nonsense and it is NOT ON. Consider this another VERY STRONG warning. If we start to see this continue in this thread and elsewhere then I will be looking to lock things down and banning people until they get the right idea.
As I have said before, common sense should surely prevail. We live in a modern age where people do things differently so folks need to get that into the heads and seriously think before they open their mouths.
This thread is not above the ideals of BoW/OTT. End of story. If you want to continue this debate then I would suggest you send me a private message and we can talk about it there but the message should be clear.
September 3, 2019 at 10:33 pm #1432124@woldenspoons – what did I say now? I don’t have an Unknown Ranger, but how about my Ratnik in pink?
@brennon – I don’t have a clue what you are talking about. I told them to play nice, but some people just don’t listen. As for the thread “not being above the ideals of BoW/OTT” I think you need to get over yourself. If someone has been an arse then direct it to them. Not everyone.
We also seem to live in a modern age where you cannot say anything about anything. People need a spoonful of cement and harden up. How is this thread not ‘inclusive’? I love everyone until they prove to me that I shouldn’t. If someone doesn’t get that this is just us talking nonsense and playing with toy soldiers then what can we do about that?
I get it, I have tried to be more careful, but like I said before if this is too difficult then we can just call it a day. People can go back to in being a ‘diet’ version. Just say.
Who the bloody hell is Lynette Nusbacher? Never heard of them.
