August 31, 2019 at 3:03 pm #1431148August 31, 2019 at 4:27 pm #1431155Good Morning All!
I’ve moved on to the next two slope boards (4 in total), and have started work on my five starship crew.
As I’ve mentioned, two were stolen last year, and I had to buy five’s of all the bits to replace them. Also, as luck would have it, the ship’s decking bases I used aren’t available anymore, so I have to scratch build them. I’ll use sprue and plasticard to make deck plate and pipes. I have a 1/16th hole punch for rivets, and sculptor’s mesh to make grating. I’ve got the first layer of plasticard down on the bases, and will build from there. I’ve also started pinning the feet. I also still have air tanks and helmets to attach to the crewmens’ waists. These weren’t easy to make.
Apologies for the pics. My camera got stolen at the LGS on Wednesday, so am gimping along with Vi’s tablet.
@unclejimmy Etch-a-Sketch was a miracle of technology; it mimicked a pencil and eraser, but was a large glass and plastic box, rather than a small convenient stick, and was 1000 times more expensive.
Did you get the wash too dark on the Traktor Muls, or is it just the camera?
@mage Great looking bikes. You’ve already completed your pledge! Time for another!
@limburger if you want to do conversions Orks are the way to go! Might I suggest messing around with some appropriate sized dollar store stuff first? That way you won’t ruin a good kit, and may end up with something you like anyway. Plasticard is great for conversion work. I would also suggest getting a 1/16” hole punch to make rivets out of plasticard. Works great!
Lynette Nusbacher needs more ‘girl classes.’ I hope she kept her penis on ice, in case the whole woman thing doesn’t work out.
Something mellow this morning:
Game on everyone. Progress pics to follow… after chores of course!
August 31, 2019 at 4:53 pm #1431156@ceppie I am going to see if I can use the existing parts.
The AoS Orks and 40k Orks appear to be compatible. And I can probably hide some of the crime with a few extra parts.
Plan first, measure twice and then I will have my own go/no go on the idea I’ve got in mind.Besides … it’s plastic so it is a bit easier to manage than resin or metal.
@tuffyears that looks great. Did you use only two contrast colours ?
August 31, 2019 at 5:32 pm #1431158Hello everybody, I’m back again to put a load of my own material here for the moneyshot of stickies (notes, missives or general entries if you will).
- I watch dark films for the general phantasmagoria and unnatural which is the reality seperate from our day to day experience in a sort of xenophilia (i.e. HERESY!!!). The weird, macabre or “other” is something to look upon and analyze for the similarity in order to hold up a black mirror to one’s self (yeah, I like thatbseries too). Some of the scariest shit you can sit to watch is true cosmic horror where humanity, in all its insignificance, just happens to bump into the things of our nightmares. The Alien IP does a pretty good job in opening that can of worms and hitting the nail on the head with and our Uncanny Valley discomfort with children and robots. “The Void” cuts deep into the Cthulhu mythos as a random CoC experience that makes people out to live in a benthic zone where all we really have is each other in a way similar to “Silent Hill”. Just having seen “Midsommar” yesterday, and the introduction to the term “folk horror”, I’d say that the relationships we tend and our connections to the community we live in are underlying points of anxiety we overlook but feel in our primal minds.
I enjoy some films for the sense of empathy with the protagonist or lead roles in these kinds of features that might otherwise be deemed ‘mad’ on sheer simple human emotion. “Quills”, “Perfume, The Story of a Murderer”, “The Cell”, “Watchmen” and “Taxi Driver” are great plunges into raw emotions. I look forward to the upcoming Joker film with mixed emotions but remain hopeful. More often than not, good dark films are a hit with me. After a while I might need to watch some bright and shiny anime to bring back my sense of color appreciation. - When I see new miniature I think if it looks cool. First and foremost my sense of aesthetics must be appeased. If it does so I think about what the finished paint might look like and what basing options would work. It all falls to building something. I find myself at present with more display bases on hand than miniatures to set on them.
- What I am going to do in the future for today is get dressed, attend to some personal grooming, drop off some cast iron to a friend of mine, pick up glosscoat for my models and then keep building my Orktober piece for next month.
Keeping up on the weather and an ear out for oriskany’s sitrep not game related I might put something together should his hobbying be affected.
August 31, 2019 at 6:04 pm #1431160Akhelian green for armour
Aggaros Dunes for brass edging
Basilicanum Grey for gunmetal parts
Iyanden Yellow for the yellow bits
Black Templar for join seals and piping
so 5 in total
August 31, 2019 at 9:02 pm #1431187Technically that pledge was left over from last weekend, I think. Maybe last weekend it was ‘Work on the bikes.’
Ive assembled a lot of stuff lately.
Ill continue working on my Forgefiend. It is close to completion. Ill post a pic after I do some more work on it.
The terrain looks good as do the cannon crew.
Phone stolen from LGS? As well as terrain getting damaged and taken? You need to have a quiet private word with the owner dude.
August 31, 2019 at 9:04 pm #1431189August 31, 2019 at 9:18 pm #1431193I return!
@mage – I am all about slow progress! 500pts. Pick heavy…must have been digging a trench.
1. It meant anything, not just TV. I looked at that list and I didn’t spot one thing that is funny. The Punisher is terrible. It is too much. Why all the superhero stuff at the moment? I saw the ‘animation’ on Black Panther and thought I had gone back in time! We watched the new Godzilla movie and if you take out all the crap with the people then it is an awesome film.
Superheroes do not work on the screen. Comics only unless you are the original Batman TV series. Watchmen was fun.
Anime? Another thing I lost interest in. Panty & Stocking is great, but that is as far as i’ll go. Attack on Titan was pretty good. I do like the ‘look’, but just can’t keep up.
I did see that Star Wars trailer. That is another thing that they just seem to be writing anything for. Sometimes known as the ‘curse of TNG’. Original Trek and B5.
However, at Jamie’s insistence we did start watching ‘Breaking Bad’. Halfway through series 4 and loving it. I was surprised how much I did enjoy it.
If we are just talking about TV then we always have ‘Still Game’ or ‘Peep Show’ on in the background, but I also like ‘Alan Partridge’, ‘Respectable’ (which is awesome) and ’15 Stories High’. I have the final episode of ‘Chernobyl’ to watch too. Very heavy, but they have made a fantastic job of it! If you haven’t seen it then get downloading.
As for modern Trek…I would rather have another mastectomy. 200pts.
Anyway, where do you get the time to paint all your stuff AND watch all this rubbish? 100pts.
There is some ‘strange’ things on YouTube. Even by some of my tastes there are some dark pockets of humanity out there. However, there are a few I “subscribe” to. A couple of former JW and Scientologists that are interesting and I love YT stuff about the LDS and Joseph Smith. I learn so much! There are also some very learned Rabbis I like to watch. However, my Hebrew is not as good as it was.
There is an awesome ‘trans’ lady that I like to listen to. ‘Rose of Dawn’ is the name of the channel and she is very vocal in her understanding of all that stuff. Facinating. No kidding.
My favourite is of course: Bases/Miles Johnston and his UFO/Supersoldiers/abductees. A very dangerous man in the way he exploits those with obvious mental illness.
2. I knew you would be a Magpie. All Wacoshop fiends are…I was. Since I stopped trying to play everything (but get around to playing nothing) I do more ‘window shopping’ then just snaffling everything I see. I do have to stop myself!
Being back here doesn’t help either…tempting bastards. No doubt sent by Satan.
Speaking of Satan, we went to where I used to play as a boy, for a wander with the Puggos and I was showing Eve and Jamie where they used to have the Black Masses and it still gives me the fear. The land is part of the ancestoral home of the Boweslyon family.
You need to start playing Infinity and stop wasting your time with lesser games. 500pts. An Infinity army cost £100 and you don’t need to to buy any books to go with your minis. I wish the new starter set would hurry up and get here. Shiney!
Then again, when I was playing 40Gay I started a Black Templar army just because they released that Chaplain in ‘bone’ adorned armour and a power fist. Did I go to far? No…it was shining at me.
3. How come you stapped training? I remember what a girl you were when you started and we started talking about it. 1000pts. However, you quickly changed my ‘opinion’. You really took to it! Try another style/system…remember you still owe me a fight sometime. I know what you are thinking, “…old bastard has had a few strokes!” However, remember that I do a tiny bit of Wing Chun and that was invented by a one-armed Nun.
I always hated running. So boring. A bit of cross-country or a TAB with 40lbs was fun. Saying that I need to be out to try and strengthen my left leg/arm. Maybe i’ll restart training with you?
Warhammer World is pretty good. When I lived in Sheffield I just used to get the train to Nottingham if I wasn’t working on a saturday. It only takes 40 minutes and was £9 return. The buses in Nottingham blow. If you ever head that way then you must stop by for afternoon tea. I insist.
Steel Panther rule! 10000pts. The first band I took the boy to see. Thing about Steel Panther, or Spinal Tap, is that when they are taking the piss they are better that 95% of real rock bands.
Airbourne – very good too! 100pts. As are Electric Six. When I explained the end og the ‘Gay Bar’ video to Derek he almost puked. Me thinks the lady doth protest too much…
What kind of tank? Are you joking?
As for the “black things”…they are Infinity chocolate Traktor Muls. They carry stuff and are Remote missile launchers and minesweepers. Very nasty. They are waiting for a few coats of Russian Uniform green.
Nice bikers! 200pts. I hope those barrels are getting drilled out?
@ceppie – I know what you mean. 500pts. Since we went for a wander this morning I have been ordered to “take it easy or else!”
1. I sometimes find myself watching recruits going through basic training documentaries. I watched a series where they followed RM’s Commandos from induction to their first posting. When they did their final tests and got their green berets I was in tears.
That is also a thing that gets me…all the waffle from dicks.
I have a similar problem with American crime documentaries. Why the vile soundtracks? It is hard to follow the information when it sounds like I am at a rave. They also recap everything every ten minutes.
I have been watching a thing called ‘My 600lb Life’. They are all just low IQ trailer trash. I cannot tear myself away from the stupidity.
2. Oh, I really believe you! 500pts. Do you do standup?
I also read a lovely email from your game store!
My Magpie moments tend to be because I have some pocket money left.
3. You go for it! I’ll slip you a 20 if you need some books…just let me know. I would be tempted into doing something similar, but I think it would be too much for me. I would hate to get all fired-up and then have drop-out or take time off.
2112 – rules. 200pts. The double album had the story to go with it. Have you read it?
I slopped some darker paint on for depth later, but the HDR (or something) is on and it is just the camera and my ancient desk lamp.
@oriskany – we will see you on the other side of the storm! Stay safe and warm.
@limburger – hot enough to burn a man’s conscience! 100pts.
Is that show not based on something from Black Mirror? I watched an episode of that new Start Trek series. No thanks. The same with that ‘Another Life’ on Netflix. I think they are money laundering scams.
Those YT channels are just like arguing what is better Mohammed Ali or Brake Fluid! 100pts. As fake as the Waterhouse painting I have in the hall.
What is the GoT woman getting a waft of?
I did enjoy watching a YT channel where the guy makes the most amazing paper airplanes. I like to live on the edge.
2. You never just buy a mini because it is cool? Really? Not even once?
Of the 16000pts of Chaos that I accumulated I doubt anything was built form the box. Even the Marines.
@tuffyears – Tasty. 500pts. However, they are not Thousand Sons anymore are they?
@horati0nosebl0wer – moneyshot! Well, as long as we don’t have any ‘friendly fire’ we will be fine! 1000pts.
The Void was bloody terrible. I have seen a few movies during my 52 years and that film sounded like a doorbell. Dung. I have only seen 2 movies that were Lovecraft related that weren’t horrific – Reanimator and The Beyond.
Perfume was pretty good. 100pts. Taxi Driver = totally over-rated. The movie is like watching paint dry. I did like where he took that lady for their first date.
I would take a guess that you are a younger person. ‘Dark’ movies are never really scary or unnerving (‘Martyrs’ for the story) as they are just movies. You really don’t want to be exposed to that sort of stuff. Not good for the soul. I have seen that ‘Midsommar’, but it is just another ‘The Wicker Man’. Now there is a dark film!
The most vile movie I ever saw was called ‘Salo’ and is supposed to be base on the book by the MdS. It is supposed to be ‘art’ and all that crap, but it is just filthy and if you can watch more than half of this then there is something wrong with you and I suggest you visit your doctor.
My capsule advice: watch nice things!
2. Really? You don’t just go “yoink” in the style of Snake? Now I do have worries about you. 500pts.
3. Grooming? Once I am upright I am ready to go. False teeth rule. 100pts.
August 31, 2019 at 9:21 pm #1431194Also refered to as: shit bats and dog apples.
Milk?
August 31, 2019 at 9:21 pm #1431195@unclejimmy , the marine is a Rubic marine from the Thousand sons chapter . rather like plague marines are from the death guard chapter
August 31, 2019 at 9:30 pm #1431196I had better give you some decent moozik too:
Hitler became a keyboard player!
…makes a great alarm noise.
Question: who is that guitarist? No cheating.
Chomp through that lot and play nice.
