I am on the AvP mailing list at Prodos, and just now got an email with preorder solicitation for some Aliens vs Predator unicast models.
…and at the bottom it said the following:
Clearance sale – This is also a last month of AvP product line, after April 2019 AvP will be unavailable to buy. All add-ons are 40% off!
repeat: last month of AvP product line, after April 2019 AvP will be unavailable to buy
…one would think this might have needed a little more fanfare…
and the ramifications of this: What about the outstanding AvP kickstarter rewards? 6 years late as they are…
Will they ever be delivered? Will they be buried and forgotten in the mists of time? Simply written off going forward?
Maybe BoW could reach out to Prodos for a comment?
Edit: I also just got this message from Prodos, as a backer of the AvP KS:
“AvP The Hunt Begins as a retail product is coming to an end on the 30th of April 2019. We will cease sales of all AvP product by the end of the April. Kickstarter fulfilment will work as usual, and shipments will be commenced until all backers receive their packages. Please make sure your pledge manager is closed. Closing Pledge manager means providing us with you up-to-date postage address.”
So let’s hope they actually deliver this time.
Edit again: Ninja’d!
April 2, 2019 at 2:46 pm #1371050Is there reason to believe that ordering now from this site will mean not getting the product? I thought the game was too expensive at the time, but might get a few pieces before they are discontinued…
April 2, 2019 at 2:49 pm #1371051Also, do you know what scale these are at? I’d guess 32-35mm
April 2, 2019 at 2:58 pm #1371052I skipped the Kickstarter because I wasn’t confident in Prodos’ ability to deliver without serious issues, but I’d always planned to get the game eventually. Well, no time like the present, I guess.
April 2, 2019 at 3:19 pm #1371072They did the AvP Kickstarter in 2012 or 2013. They have released a lot of product to retail, also making a second edition and a series of unicast minis that I believe are not quite to scale (larger) to the older resin minis. Many backers still have not received their pledge rewards with the first edition game and resin minis.
There has been a lot of backstory here, check other threads for some of it. For this reason many people refuse to buy anything off Prodos on general principle.
For my own part, I think it was three or even four years ago they made an offer to ship backers their KS rewards IF they bought someting else off their webshop. I took them up on this offer, because a reward in hand is much better than the promise of “some unspecified time in the future” and the future of Prodos looked a but shaky at the time.
My experience with this was good. the shipment went out in short order. They communicated well, I got (most of) my pledge rewards -everything that was available at the time -and the two minis I ordered. There were a few small issues with some of the minis. I sent a complaint and it did not take many days before I received replacement bits in the post.
To conclude, apart from the dodgy kickstarter fulfilment situation, I think they should be safe enough to order from.
scale: the first edition resin minis are comparable to Bolt Action in scale, a 28mm “truscale” The unicast minis I believe are slightly larger, more like Warpath but not quite Warhammer in scale.
April 2, 2019 at 5:05 pm #1371199I wonder if this is a result of Disney acquiring Fox.
April 2, 2019 at 6:21 pm #1371254I went to check the Kickstarter to see if I had pledged a dollar back then and found this:
April 2, 2019 at 6:45 pm #1371256@nteger The IP thing happened about a month after the KS ended, “something, someone at Prodos did” to the KS page “by accident” and it automatically put up that warning. So that’s been there for many years! 😀
Guess its time to sell off the KS crap I eventually got and never touched…April 2, 2019 at 7:43 pm #1371269About the IP dispute, Prodos is on record stating that this is because some of the images used were not approved properly by Fox and they were obliged by Fox to remove the images. The problem was that Kickstarter does not allow the changing of any content in the campaign after is is concluded, and the only recourse to not show the images in question was to IP strike their own kickstarter.
It actually sounds plausible given the draconic nature of both Fox’s licensing division and the Kickstarter company. Talk about your irresistible force vs the immovable object.
April 2, 2019 at 10:06 pm #1371328I can vouch for that, I can’t change anything on my KS pages, which is frustrating, not even to add a small piece of text or anything.
But, sounds like, maybe 28-3omm, which would be perfect… Still steep (wonder why they are charging in £ when they are in poland though…
April 3, 2019 at 7:52 am #1371414Sadly the base game is not on offer.
I got the first edition, bought it in a store without knowing about the KS troubles, it seemed some stores got some copies way before the actual release.
And I have to say I really liked the minis in the box though the rules were bad, that’s why i always wanted to try the second edition.
April 3, 2019 at 11:16 am #1371569Going to keep an eye out for any discounted Predators on sale at Salute. Need something to hunt with my Spectre minis.
April 5, 2019 at 11:06 am #1372313Nice to see that Prodos realise that they still have Kickstarter pledges to fulfill (now approaching 5 years since the Kickstarter’s delivery estimate).
I’ve never received anything from these jokers – and yeah my postal address is in the pledge manager.
April 8, 2019 at 10:03 am #1374241It appears that Prodos were simply unable to renew the licence as things were in the air at Fox regarding granting licences/renewals during the Disney buy. It’s also rumoured that some at Fox were keen in trying to separate the Alien and Predator IPs.
Gale Force 9 are supposed to be releasing an Aliens board game later this year, which should be unaffected as they would already have the contract in place.
If anyone really wants to pick up these miniatures I’d advise doing so now, stockists other than Prodos are running out fast and I’ve noticed that some ebayers have already started jacking prices.
