Mantic have just announced the contents of the new two player starter for Kings of War and they’re setting two of their most unique factions against each other, the nightmarish apparitions of the Nightstalkers against the wild Northern Alliance, a combination of elf, human, dwarf and fishman among others.
Shadows in the North tells the story of a Nightstalker incursion into the Winterlands. Inside the set, you’ll get a booklet that gives some background on the story, details about each faction and a mini campaign to help you learn the ropes.
Inside the box, you’ll find:
NORTHERN ALLIANCE
20 Hard Plastic Clansmen*
20 Hard Plastic Pack Hunters*
3 PVC Plastic Snow Trolls
PVC Plastic Ice Kin Master Hunter
NIGHTSTALKERS
20 Hard Plastic Scarecrows**
20 Hard Plastic Spectres**
3 PVC Plastic Butchers
PVC Plastic Horror
Those are nice models! Might have to start saving the pennies for this one..
Those are some interesting picks for starter box armies but I am happy that they chose something different compared to typical possible picks like Elves, Dwarves and Orcs that they could had went with.
@lordsanes not sure if it’s still going to be £50 as the rulebook is going to be chunkier but I’m hoping it stays in around that neck of the woods, in which case grabbing a couple is an awesome way of getting two chunky starting armies. I’ll see on Friday I guess
@avernos Could use those Northern Alliance models for a load of games too, so really I’d be saving money…right
#Justifying the purchase intensifies#
Those Northern Alliance could be popular for Frostgrave and a Wildling inspired army for lots of games, like Saga!
Wow, Mantic is hitting this starter set out of the park.
Those northern alliance miniature are just top notch. Really a great deal, I have the abyssals from the KS Vanguard… and they are awesome.
Putting their top two NEW Armies in one starter set, is just a fantastically smart idea.
and not just new armies, but uniquely Mantic, there’s no other game out there that have comparable forces so it becomes another feature
Super tempted by the Northern Alliance, the other half isn’t exactly my cup of tea looks wise but still nice.
Those Northern Allliance are so nice, I wouldn’t give them to my granny though!
Titanic News Update,
“Bigger is better” – Warren Johnston
In October hot on the heels of the new edition to reinforce the northern alliance against the Nightstalkers big stompy monsters are two new bits of kit
the frost giant and
the Chimera.
Not to be outdone in time for Winterveil there are three more titanic toys (toytanic?) for other KoW armies
Basilean’s get the Phoenix
Mantic will finally release the Kraken for the Trident Realms and
to stop Rob sulking the goblins get a slasher of their own.
We live in interesting times
@avernos I probably will end up doing that to be fair. Give myself a nice starter force that way get stuck into a few larger games.
