Warfighter Fantasy by DVG is currently on Kickstarter, funded, and with more than a few stretch goals unlocked.
While I have many DVG games (Sherman Leader, Tiger Leader, Thunderbolt/Apache Leader, Corsair Leader, Hornet Leader, Phantom Leader, Down in Flames, Fleet Commander Nimitz), I’ve managed to avoid Warfighter (WWII & Modern) so far. Not for lack of interest…just because free time and funds were already allocated to other games. That…and I was a bit intimidated by the sheer number of Warfighter products coming into the game so late and not sure where to start.
But Warfighter Fantasy is changing that…letting me in on the ground floor. And it looks fantastic!
Of course this will just be a gateway drug…pulling me into Warfighter WWII and then Warfighter Modern in due course. It won’t help that while there are flavor differences, the games are still compatible. And I just know I’m going to HAVE to have a “Lost Battalion” of WWII or Modern American soldiers find themselves transported into a fantasy land…or have a fantasy adventuring party step through a portal into WWII!
It’s too crazy not to explore!
=)
Anyway, the Kickstarter ends on October 21st…so come check it out.
October 8, 2020 at 3:34 pm #1573150Just be aware that DVG’s expansion method is a never-ending series of $20 decks of cards to buy. So right now there are over 50 expansion decks for the Modern version of Warfighter, and over 50 expansion decks for just the WWII version. So just be prepared, as the Fantasy version already has 12 expansion decks available to purchase along with your pledge.
October 8, 2020 at 4:09 pm #1573153Yeah, I’m in the All-In pledge for Warfighter Fantasy…want to get a solid footing and not let it rush by me. =)
I’ll probably TRY to not be my usual completionist self with WWII and Modern…I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…and just focus on my preferred areas of interest (mostly US-centric military and operations).
Check with me in a year and see how well I contained myself…
=)
October 8, 2020 at 4:21 pm #1573154WW2 is tough because sometimes the stuff you want is in completely unrelated packs. The big footlocker storage box had Germans, Americans, and Brits that you couldn’t get in other packs. Then factor in sometimes the Americans in a pack are soldiers & allies, and in others they are fightable adversaries (if you were playing as Germans) and it gets to be like herding cats. It’s a series of games designed to drive completionists either mad or into the poorhouse, whichever comes first! LOL.

With the opening of the Fantasy Era, we are getting attention from many people who have never played, or even heard of Warfighter. Hopefully this will answer many of your questions!
Warfighter began about six years ago as a modern day Special Forces solitaire card game. The idea of the game was simple: You are put in the role of a Special Forces commander, and it’s your assignment to build a team of soldiers, including their weapons, gear, and skills to accomplish a mission. Before building your team, you know what the Mission card and Objective card are. So you know the basic overview of the mission, such as how many resource points you have to spend, the number of turns you have to complete the mission, how many location cards you need to move through to reach the objective, and what you need to do when you reach the objective card to successfully complete the mission.
The game did well. Really really well. Honestly, far better than we ever thought it would.
So we designed expansions for other modern day settings, and then expanded the series to WWII.
We also added fun “Alternate” expansions along the way for Zombies, Skeletons, and Cthulhu in WWII.
Through all this, the core structure has remained the same: Build a team, Take on a mission, Travel from point-A to point-B, and complete the task needed to complete the mission.
It was a natural extension of the system to expand into Fantasy. And in Fantasy, the core idea remains the same: build a party of Heroes, battle your way through a dungeon infested with monsters, obstacles, and traps, and then defeat the big monster at the end of the dungeon. On top of the core “mission” level of the game, we have added a never before seen “campaign” level to fantasy.
The Fantasy campaign is known as a “Questing” campaign system, because your party travels from place to place carrying out missions. This Questing campaign will also appear in Modern and WWII Warfighter as we go forward.
We also have a “Deployment” campaign system planned. It works much like the Questing campaign, except your team deploys from a fixed base to remotes locations, carries out a mission, and then returns to base. This system will also appear in Modern, WWII, and Fantasy Eras.
If you are new to Warfighter, there is a section below with many fine How to Play videos. We will continue to post new Fantasy How to Play videos.
If you have any questions, please ask, and I will do my best to answer them!
