Inner Sphere freebirth scum can’t understand greatness of the Clans.
All joking aside Clan era was my entry point to BT thanks to little PC game that is MechWarrior 2 that was all about Clans so they are closer to my heart than Houses. Yes I have soft spot for House Kurita/Draconis Combine but Clans Jade Falcon and Wolf (both Clans featured in MW2) are my favorite factions in BT.

Daddy needs his ‘Marauder’ back! Mine was highly modified to say the least. I even had the hundred ton version.
Back in the late 80’s myself and five friends embarked on an epic campaign that lasted three full years. We met ever Wednesday and then later switched to Thursday evenings for our game. We played on a custom table I built that was 12′ x 6′ with track lighting above a sound track to add to the atmosphere. We used Mechwarrior for the RPG aspect and Bttletech for the tabletop part of the battles. We also used Aerospace and Battle space when needed.
Gawd that was a grand time! Some marriages fell apart, girlfriends came and went, but the Battletech Group was solid and held fast for those three years. (Que the Babs sound track, ‘Memories’)
June 14, 2019 at 12:04 pm #1404593I think we got into Battletech the test after it stopped being Battledroids (For those in NI we bought it all in Leisure World). Our campaign lasted 12 years and our DM bought the Clan sourcebooks and kept all the details of the Clans secret and do were shocked when we fought them for the first time

I have to say, I finally managed to snack a copy of the Introductory Box off someone who opened it and said “Naaah” and I’ve been fairly impressed. My only concern is if/when they will start looking at releasing mechs individually, because not gonna lie, I want at least 4 of those new Madcats…
July 11, 2019 at 6:16 pm #1413705July 11, 2019 at 6:20 pm #1413706Timber Wolf (MAD CAT to freebirth scum of Inner Sphere) is my favorite mech so I am so going to want some of those.
July 11, 2019 at 6:29 pm #1413718The mechs look great, especially the Mad Cat/T. Wolf. It’s great to see that they are keeping up momentum after the starter boxes came out and are continuing to release great new sculpts. Single mechs would be great, or the Lance boxes that they’ve been doing for Alpha Strike.
At first I thought that Nova looks a bit big for a 50 ton mech; they had the same issue in MechWarrior Online, from where I assume the designs have come. But I think the base sizes look different too, so it’s probably just the way they’ve been added at different scales onto the image.

July 13, 2019 at 3:09 am #1414139July 13, 2019 at 3:36 am #1414142Only problem with adding the Clans (with their overwhelming advantage in technology) was there was never a mechanic to add the “bid” system into the game.
Only way to do it would to have the IS player having say 500 tons, and then two competing Clan players “bid” to try and win the game with the lowest tonnage (with the loser having to sit the game out). Alas not fun for all involved, so this lead to equal tonnage games (where the Clan stuff just wipes the IS from the table).
They tried to “fix” things by basically making IS mechs act like Clan mechs and with equivalent weapons systems. But in the end it just ended up with players having a favoured set up for their mechs and then just choosing the Mechs they like to look of to put that set up in (to an extent). They game really lost it’s appeal for me after they added the Clan stuff.
3025 is where it’s at baby, House vs House and Mechs with a STANDARD layout (with advantages and disadvantages) rather than the “min max” game it became 😀
July 13, 2019 at 10:36 am #1414213You can use the Clan bid system in the RPG, which we’ve done before, but you’re right that lots of the cool narrative elements of the Clans are difficult to fit into the standard BattleTech game. There is a points system though so you don’t have to use tons as the value of your force. You can get away with that using all-3025 tech (although some designs are definitely better value than others).
I agree that 3025 is probably the best technology level for playing games in, especially balanced ones and it’s great to see the resurgence of that with the BattleTech computer game – 3025 is cool again. One of the things I’m most excited about for the kickstarter is the Inner Sphere stretch goals which will bring us cool new plastic Mechs for all both periods.
