Haven’t posted in one of these for awhile. Found my hobby has taken a bit of a backseat lately so hopefully stuff like this will get me more involved again.
This weekend I pledged to just do anything with my hobby, so far I’ve built a Start collecting Maggotkin of Nurgle Box for Aos and also put together a few Lord of the Rings models as well. Really pleased with what I’ve done so far. I aim to get a bit of paint on some BA Germans today as well.
Now for a few questions
Important things:
1. My first ever pet was a hamster called Fluffy, loved that little thing more than anything. We also had a rescue dog called Charlie, 4 years old when we had him and he lived another 10 happy years.
2. My dads Sega Mega Drive, I always remember my dad finally allowing me to use it when my younger brother couldn’t and felt important like I’d been entrusted to care for it.
3. There was always a little saw at my Grandads house I would call mine and no one else could use it, so I could help with the garden work and cut branches etc.
Bargains:
Probably the best Bargain I’ve ever had is when someone I know either got sacked or left GW (never really knew the full story) he sold virtually all his stuff. Managed to get hundreds of pounds worth of stuff for about £100 in total.
Rules:
Generally I like to play by the rules but I more than happy to let things slide or play a different way if it means a funner game. I.e let people off for declaring abilities at the wrong time if it’s clear that was the their plan all etc.
August 11, 2019 at 1:12 pm #1424820Ok, I’ve had dinner and have a bourbon in hand… replies to page three… playing catch-up!
@ceppie yeah the camera is great for pointing out what needs more work.
@biggabum were you defeated though? The rules of “pics or didn’t happen” still apply, right? 😉
oh I didn’t actually say Hello @oriskany sorry! Good to see you too.
Eyes are a pain…
Tom Cruise?
Someone told me the other day that Christian Bale based his performance in American Psycho on Tom Cruise after watching an interview that he was doing. Here in Australia in the 80’s we had an ad of a teenage girl giving up a dinner date with Tom Cruise to stay home for her Mum’s Lamb roast.@sundancer come on, you cant just drop in a cool idea like that and walk away! Share! Materials, method! Also, breakfast chocolate? Like chocolate biscuits for breakfast?
@ceppie man, the battle boards kick butt. I’ve had a look through the project you’re doing, I’d be stealing ideas and tips if I had space to do that. In the near future maybe.
@horati0nosebl0wer dude that sucks having to move. Sounds like he’ll be free to live with his waifu pillow in peace though.
A picture of our guest, who moments ago was up on my painting desk trying to drink my brush rinsing water…
ok, I’m actually going to go and do some hobby now… I’ll post some pics tomorrow.
August 11, 2019 at 1:16 pm #1424825@rayzryr they are very thin chocolate pieces. I eat them on a peanut butter sandwich 😉 Materials used are in my project
Spoiler: It’s Keramin
August 11, 2019 at 2:33 pm #1424888@horati0nosebl0wer just teasing you, sorry you were feeling sensitive.
@sundancer please tell us more about my new favourite breakfast item!
1. Tell me 2-3 things that were important to you when you were young.
Star Wars springs to mind but I guess Action figures in general. Never gotten over them. I can’t go past a toy store without popping in to see what is new. I even watch the Wrestling Figures podcast just to keep up to date. I’m sure @dawfydd can relate what with his love of Transformers.
2. Everyone likes a bargain. What have your best ones been? Same as most people, finding that sweet spot of a gaming shop closing. Stuff was so cheap and I even picked up a special edition gaming case that I still use now almost 20 years later.
3. What is your approach to “the rules” when you are playing games? There are rules? I demo games for Mantic so you’d think I’d be right up there reading rules, I was also the local magic judge, however, now I’m old I just can’t get through a rulebook anymore. I couldn’t even manage the AoS pamphlet.
Luckily, when I play with my friends I just don’t care about the rules. Unless my opponent is blatantly cheating that is. In which case I’m suddenly the Rain Man.
Music 5ime.
Weekend nearly over, I did have a 40k game arranged but had to cancel due to the weather. I did squeeze in some Hellboy action though. Hopefully my Conquest Mag sub will arrive tomorrow and then I’ll have stuff to build.
August 11, 2019 at 3:36 pm #1424947Sorry for the short post. Checking in, packing stuff and looking for a new place and all.
@rayzryr It has indeed been some time. I’m doing as well as can be expected. As far as the figure it is a Reaper. I think I might have a copy as well in my Hoard but it’ll need to stary put for a while.
@woldenspoons Its all good. I took no offense to the highlighting observation. I have pushed the idea to push more with them and the joke made sense. Right now I’m m figuring that you wanted to see all sorts of highlights coming off the figure’s headlights. Maybe that might be a project @oriskany might be able to take up if he got into mecha or did a collab with a certain Space Wolves inclined fellow who is a veritable font of all Transformer knowledge that I have yet to see poke his head out in these parts.
August 11, 2019 at 4:35 pm #1425011Good Morning All!
I got the second board flocked, and have moved on to the last two flat boards. I’ll be putting a plasticard edge on these today.
I also got the second minotaur built last night. They are totally badass.
@sundancer very creative use of a chocolate tray! What brand is that? I need an excuse to buy chocolate. I’ve considered buying a TV before just to get the Styrofoam stuff to make a bunker.@horati0nosebl0wer Sucks that you have to move. Sorry to hear it, but there’s something to be said for new beginnings. At least you won’t have to tiptoe around your old roommate anymore.
I wouldn’t want to be the plastic surgeon that had to implant those Tupperware tits!
@rayzryr The crewman is for a Traveller first contact campaign. There are going to be a few human and alien ships floating around in orbit, and when it comes to boarding actions, I want to have both factions well represented with drones, robots, remotes, etc. I also have human marines.
The Zealot mini’s are fabulous. They have an entire range of minotaur models: champions, command groups, shamans. All the ones I’ve bought so far have been resin. They also make a badass kroot hound proxy:
Thanks for the endorsement on the battle boards project! I like sculpting polystyrene; it’s really easy to work with, and won’t break the bank – $35 CAD for a 4’ by 8’ sheet (2” thick).@unclejimmy I wonder if Kelly Ann McGillis will be Tom Cruise’s love interest in the Top Gun sequel?
Tunes this morning:Chores then back to battle boards. Game on everyone!
August 11, 2019 at 4:37 pm #1425012Apologies All @unclejimmy I got ambushed by a family get together which involved a new tandoori oven! Annoyingly the uncle in question works sourcing sites for mobile phone masts, but lives in the back of beyond.
The picture is from SPACED it was a sitcom on channel 4 around the 2000’s which was written by Simon Pegg – very much in the mould of his later films but I think probably in some way his best/funniest work. It’s about 30 somethings living in london but not quite being adults. However it is probably only fourth on my list of favourite sitcoms to Red Dwarf, Dads Army & Peepshow although this changes alot! well worth the watch!
I like TTCombat especially their venetian range! I also like sarissa’s gangs of rome stuff – however i already got some 4ground stuff from my brother last year (which to my shame i only finished this weekend), luckily i got a few bargains on ebay and picked a couple more up in their 20% sale:
The ones i finished off this week:
their stuff is lovely but in some places very fiddly, i plan to make signage and posters for different eras so i can quickly theme up a board!
I also started my gangs of rome bakery – which i might use in a middle eastern board for the time being as I have a lack of terrain and it is in a similar ‘build’ to those
however i am unsure how my painting will turn this out!
So moderns I havent actually started I got Spectre rules and minis in the BOW swap-a-thon which I am probably painting these next few weeks. I also bought a pdf of skirmish sangin as this seemed to have good reviews!
and is also the reason why my tea chest of shame has now some 4ground middle eastern buildings (ebay bargain)
I also bought some modern us ranger squads and a couple packs of insurgents to paint up too. All models atm are at 28mm but we will see where the future leads!
1) yes unfortunately it was a cuddly toy lab, although a real one would have been cool – my g.f wants a german shepherd and I love a boston terrier, but i think we (if we move) might end up on an australian sheep dog for one we both like (as a middle ground)
the blanket was more of a doylie considering the holes, however much like now as a kid i could snooze anywhere, i think i was just much more prepared back then.
My dad had the old dr who on vhs when i was young (well some of them!) and i enjoyed them quite a bit growing up! I do like the new dr who but sometimes it is a bit paint by numbers or a little bit force fed on subject matter…
Sharpe is great for a young kid, all about battle and women (of which i knew nothing much about either! – and probably still dont!)
I have the coin! (Picture below) next to the notes my oma bought over with her as mementos when she escaped cold war germany (she was from kothen but escaped in berlin with help from two aunts), tried a few times and had to stop, got shot at once and nearly caught the night she did run across train tracks. many an interesting story of her life in ww2 and before – however she seemed to very much dislike russians!
I remember my first computer – infact I still play the first game we ever got on it called civilisation 2, it is both rubbish and utterly brilliant at the same time. In the game they tried to make Ghandi ultra mellow as a leader so set it to 0, however 0 both meant zero and 10 in the coding of the era, so infact instead of giving him a 0/10 rating for agressiveness, in the game he is the demon child of adolf hitler and genghis kahn, he is 11 on the bastard-o-meter ever sneak attacking, threatening etc. Gandhi – what a bastard!
for music I will drop in two of my more modern english bands:
Enter shikari – redshift – ecclectic band, everything is independently done crossing the lines from hardcore back into dance/drum and bass/electro etc and back again (and everything in between) I think last year they were one of the first bands to use surround sound at their gigs – it was quite a weird experience having the music move around the room
and the milk

the skints:
east london ska?
August 11, 2019 at 6:32 pm #1425058Hopefully live in about half an hour (2PM EST – 7PM UK Time).
August 11, 2019 at 7:06 pm #1425074@woldenspoons @ceppie I’m afraid I have to redirect you to the homepage of the manufacturer 😉

August 11, 2019 at 7:45 pm #1425075@sundancer Squeeeeeee. I’m going to start importing it. No worse a breakfast than all this energy drink nonsense the kids seem to do these days.
August 11, 2019 at 9:05 pm #1425098come view the cult within a cult , on this project by @aurorainbag
August 11, 2019 at 9:59 pm #1425128Thanks for coming out to the stream, @tuffyears !
Not a bad little playtest. Proves the Iraqis can be dangerous if handled with aggression, focus, and properly asymmetrical victory conditions.
August 11, 2019 at 10:09 pm #1425132Sorry to drop to the party without any pledges or anything really, but since @skiptotheend mentioned aggressive Ghandi (BTW I also loved Civ2, with all the unbalanced crap it brought) I couldn’t help myself:
August 12, 2019 at 2:03 am #1425194@ceppie Tupperware tits? That sounds odd indeed. I’ve known a couple of friends that joked about the wife getting a boob job and an implant of a USB drive after she got diagnosed with cancer and was scheduled for a mastectomy. I don’t believe, however, that the storage capacity would be any better than between the boobs in a bra. Maybe if they opened up from the back and acted as a hard dome shell, it might work?
August 12, 2019 at 10:26 am #1425302In the end never got a chance to get some paint on the BA minis, some DIY stuff got in the way. I’ll set aside some time for that tonight.
I did however get the chance to build a few High Elves for lord of the rings. Pain in the arse to clean up because they were finecast. Not looking forward to doing the rest.
I forgot to say I also played a few games of Warcry on the Friday. It’s a brilliant game had a lot of fun with it. Definitely be picking up the set next pay day.
Pictures to follow later when I’m back from work.
