Surprised to see so many WW2 games there. Problem with those is they never look spectacular as you’ve basically got green minis on a green base on a green field.

But some of the Ancient games looked VERY good (the Byzantine vs Arabs game looked pretty good). Strange to see how “open” the tables are vs other scales with wide open areas and FLANKS being open (and not at the table edge).

I did see this post over at LAF, this chap is insane for doing such detail on 6mm figs, and then deciding to make his battalions be about 80 figs a unit (does look amazing tho).

    @phaidknott. Those Prussians are impressive

I agree with you that some of WW2 games don’t look too impressive on the dark green mats  but having  played in many 6mm WW2 over the years they do look better in person. But saying that 6mm along with 20mm were the mainstays of WW2 for years

Was interesting seeing Gripping Beast there playing Sword point in 6mm

Ooooh I also did the games of Heroics and Ros 6mm WW2 and moderns (remember the ful page ads they used to have in all the magazines…the entire catalog in tiny tiny print on a single page (and 50 infantry was £1.05, still remember that to this day the horror as they went over a whole pound for a “baggie” of 6mm goodness).

But for me 6mm really stands out with the more colourful periods and when you’ve got masses of them on a single base (really gives a sense of scale). The project here featuring the 6mm Ancient Germans really shows of the look you can get. 6mm painting is “fiddly”, but pretty quick. No wet blends and filters here (although those Prussians did have it done….crazy).

I don’t think gamers realise just how many 6mm figs you can do in an hour once you have the “production line” set up.

@phaidknott H&R are still going strong . I think the tanks are still about 60p each.

With a bit of practice and with uniformed infantryman (irregular or uniformed types take longer) I reckon 90 seconds per figure

Just as an add. I just found out that the Gripping Beast game was promoting a game called Milites Mundi which seems to be a new set of Swordpoint rules for ‘smaller scales’

    Thanks for sharing.

Probably of interest to you both but I have recently followed a Twitter account called God’s Own Scale 6mm (https://twitter.com/GodsOwnScale).  He describes his account as

Recent convert to Gods Own Scale and amateur historian. Gods Own Scale podcast: https://godsownscale6mm.podbean.com/

Not sure I will go smaller than 10mm, but his musings are interesting as was his first podcast (well at least for a non-6mm person).

@robert Thanks for the links  I don’t use twitter but I’ll  have a listen to the  podcast

I don’t  think there is a huge difference between 6&10mm when it comes to the look in the table, basing etc  . For me it depends what I’m doing. I do fantasy in 10mm as there isn’t much out there in 6mm. Saying that I’m getting to an age where I’m finding 6mm a little more difficult these days so looking to 10 a little more than I did

The only thing i am finding as I get older is the need for really perfect light.  Perhaps I should jump on the 6mm train now before it is too late!

I was at the opticians on Saturday and my eyes are the same as they were 10 years ago which is good. I still love both scales

I was there a year ago or so and was told my eyesight was 20/20…Still a chance I can be a pilot lol but I was more worried about him telling me I was diabetic or had something even more sinister.  Get your eyes tested regularly folks!

Would have to agree . There is a history of glaucoma in the family so I’ve always been paranoid about getting my eyes checked
