Metal miniatures and fully compatible with the Infinity game. Colour me interested.
What’s interesting here is that it’s actually being Kickstarterted by Corvus Belli. Honestly I can see it being a bit of a runaway Kickstarter and I hope they manage the stretch goals sensibly.
March 29, 2019 at 7:08 pm #1369160Interesting, this was one of the many ideas they showed at one GenCon about stuff they want to make.
Not sure about KS though but will watch this.
March 29, 2019 at 7:36 pm #1369161Just picked up on this through fb.
An interesting variant to presumably allow a co-op experience using Infinity models in an Infinity Universe.
March 29, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1369166Metal miniatures in a dungeon crawler ? hmmm
I wish they would do plastic instead.
It will be interesting to see if they’re going to make this cross-over with both their RPG as well the rest of the Infinity games.
March 29, 2019 at 9:03 pm #1369203Well the video says the minis will be compatible with Infinity and for Aristeia! the only Infinity minis compatible with it are minis which have a Aristeia! mini and profile and I doubt they will make rules for the Deviant hereos for Aristeia!
And about the RPG, well I don’t know anything about that game but if you can have Combined Army as enemies you should be able to use the enemy models and for the heroes if their classes + gear exists you also should be able to use them.
March 29, 2019 at 9:55 pm #1369218I echo @limburger‘s interest in plastic ( or even resin for me ). I expect this crowdfunder will be massive, so perhaps they could do both, i don’t know, but in any case i don’t think Carlos wants to do anything other than metal. I’m still interested.
March 29, 2019 at 10:08 pm #1369223Yes metal is strange for a boardgame, even more so after they used plastic in Aristeia! but personally as a Infinity player I don’t mind metal.
March 29, 2019 at 10:34 pm #1369237I can see why they aren’t doing plastic. They have been very clear about not switching from metal for Infinity and this game will be 100% compatible with Infinity so it stands to reason that the miniatures would also be metal. It definitely means that the game is aimed very much at at the wargamer audience and isn’t likely to be very accessible to people outside of that market as a result. However Infinity has a big enough following that I think this can still be successful. Human Interface is also a sort of dungeon Crawler and the original Kickstarter was all metal. But it’s possible that, if this proves popular they may reconsider metal miniatures in the future
March 29, 2019 at 10:41 pm #1369238That’s my next Kickstarter sorted 🙂 I share @onlyonepinman‘s mild concern over kickstarter management given the repercussions for Hawk after their Dropfleet KS. But I think Corvus will sort it out.
I think it’s worth mentioning the plot behind this as well. The first human ship in Combined Army’s territory. Sounds like a TV series. Will they release missions to move the story forward? I love Infinity fluff.
Regarding the choice of metal miniatures I found that a bit odd as well. But Aristeia’s plastics came in for some criticism from the fanbase for not being as high quality as their metal stuff. I think Corvus are a special case in this regard.
March 29, 2019 at 11:30 pm #1369244I can understand why they haven’t gone for HIPS with this and why they probably never will. Like I said, metal is a point of pride for CB and if I am honest I actually can’t fault them. Because of the large scale switch to plastic and resin, metal miniatures really feel like a “premium” product now, especially in the sci-fi/fantasy market. Couple that with high quality sculpts and you have a very desirable product. It’s not a great choice for a dungeon Crawler if you want mass appeal but it can work in a more “boutique” product. And if it proves successful then there’s business decisions to be made about whether they would be prepared to move away from metal to give the game even wider appeal, which is what Post Industrial Games did when they went back to Kickstarter with the Human Interface sequel game (although they retained the option for people to upgrade to metal).
March 30, 2019 at 12:19 am #1369247@seldon9 Infinity’s audience is used to all metal and associated level of detail … so of course anything less than that will get comments from their fanbase.
CMON and GW are probably the only companies currently producing plastics that can be considered as close to metal as can be done using current tech. Mythic are good, but a definite step below those. And then there’s Mantic (walking dead). Steamforged are a bit of an oddity as I do think their Dark Souls range is a bit better than their Guildball minis.
At least that is my opinion based on the boardgames minis I’ve seen so far. I haven’t seen the Aresteia minis though.I suspect that it is also pretty difficult to switch to plastic for a company like Corvus Belli.

Pride is a dangerous emotion in business though.
I hope their decision to do metal is based on their (current) experience doing plastic and available options.I suspect that if the terrain for this dungeon crawler is good and 3D-ish then it might be useful as terrain to be used in their Infinity skirmish games. The confined space of a building/spaceship do offer a different set of challenges compared to the ‘normal’ open areas skirmish games traditionally use.
March 30, 2019 at 2:46 am #1369296In my mind both metal and KS are business decisions more than design ones.
CB makes a point of having all casting done in-house, and they don’t have in-house plastic production capabilities. Considering they are going KS route, in which they have no experience what so ever, it seems logical they don’t want to take two different risks at once. Metal for them, makes delivery more manageable – they would control the process much better than dealing with, say, Chinese plants. In short I think it is logistics more than anything else.
As for choosing KS I think they try to reach to wider audience. KS has vast community of people not necessarily playing or even knowing Infinity, so it is logical that company wants to reach for them. I have a feeling that Aristeia! Is mostly popular among Infinity players.
I’m excited with the news but will wait for more info before making any decisions.
March 30, 2019 at 6:38 am #1369325There are sound business reasons that they stick with metal, it’s an essential part of their business operating model- see this interview to understand why.
Pickup from about 3:50 in for discussion of business model.
March 30, 2019 at 3:04 pm #1369485I’m all over this, will be dropping my financial pants on this kickstarter.
