I’m under a fair bit of pressure this weekend (and in general at the moment lol) so this is a bit of a fly by night post that isn’t entirely in the spirit of the rules (I’ll try to get to the questions and leave some feedback if I can) 🙁
But I wanted to drop a post of support in for the thread. 🙂
I’m in this weekend working on the apocalypse layout for the 40k weekend.
Lloyd and I got the ground work well underway yesterday.
We discovered quite a cool little trick with bicarbonate and primer lol (more on that later)
Right now I’m in building construction though for the middle table
Happy Sunday folks and I’ll pop in when I can 🙂
July 21, 2019 at 6:39 am #1416527@unclejimmy Stolen Valour Seals are some of the dumbest people on Earth. Don Shipley (before he got banned from YouTube) did the world a great service exposing them.
Oh really you’ve got a Medal of Honour even though only have a small handful have ever earned one. Oh you were captured even though a SEAL has never been captured. Whenever he says “Do you have a Class number for me?” then “Can’t seem to find you on my list sir” that’s when you know you’re in big trouble. “Oh it’s a Secret Navy Cross” is probably my favourite line someone tried to tell him.
I got my Moderns start using a friends 20mm Soviets and Afghans. I only got these in 28mm because they were rediculously cheap at a Convention.
1. I’d recommend giving 12 Strong the Movie a Miss.
3. Big Lez is a true National Treasure. The thing that makes it so great is that the characters are only barely Caricatures. A lot of people actually talk like that over here although it’s more of a ‘dodgy’ Tradey type speech. I’m glad the rest of the world finally knows what ‘Winnie Blues” are. Yeah Nah Yeah Mate is something you could hear from anyone on the street.
“How’s work mate” “Yeah Nah it’s alright mate”
In other news we had some Aussie Kids steal a car, pack some fishing rods and drive over 1200Km (Paris to Berlin, NYC to Houston Texas for comparison in Australia he didn’t actually get far he barely crossed the Border). The oldest was 14. https://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/urgent-search-for-4-gracemere-children-in-stolen-c/3779548/
5. It’s not that kind of channel it’s more like a Lindybiege/Shad Educational channel. I’m not interesting enough to have a ‘personality’ channel and a lot of the funny stories I have are still within the statute of Limitations.
6. @oriskany has been introducing me to Modern stuff. We’ve played Vietnam, Arab Israeli Falkland and tomorrow at 8pm GMT we’ll be in the skies over Vietnam.
@limburger I’m not a fan of reboots or sequels either especially when you read about all the brilliant stories like Flashman, Historical Memoirs and Wheel of Time (although Wheel of Time is getting a TV show) it makes me wonder if writers and directors are too lazy or too scared to try new things. Then again Flashman would NEVER be allowed to air even if it was made the public outcry would be enormous.
So my Hobby will now be reading these rules Jim sent me ready for tomorrow morning when we’ll be streaming over at Stirep’s Twitch Channel.
@cpauls1 the Paras are for Arnhem and my Project goes into the colours used (mostly Army Painter) while the Russians are painted using reference Material.
July 21, 2019 at 9:16 am #1416545This reminded me of the XLBS food eating challenge, and I will be sticking this in my mouth later…for my Sunday dinner, you dirty minded buggers. My own home grown courgette 🙂 Hope this does freak Justin or Warren out too much!
Also was productive…Stage two of the basing done. Stage one was painting the base in Burnt Umber and painting the lips black (how emu and goth!)
Royal Portrush would be proud of that rough… or is it ruff?
July 21, 2019 at 11:13 am #1416561Fancied some bush this morning as well. Stage 3. Was hard to find the sweet spot and positioning, but I think I have done ok.
A bit of 40K music to lift the spirits on a Sunday morning…. The riffage that starts at 17 seconds and continues on to the locals kick back in after 2 minutes are some of the best metal ever written.
Similar to the introduction to this from German metal masters Destruction. If the riff that comes in just after the minute mark doesn’t have you headbanging check your pulse as you are dead inside 🙂
When jesus wanted to show off he walked on water, when moses wanted to show off he parted the red sea, when Iron Maiden want to show off they play this live
July 21, 2019 at 12:34 pm #1416571@elessar2590 tv and movies are a business, so risks are avoided whenever possible. It’s logical, but boring.
I’m sure that both The Witcher and WoT wouldn’t even be getting a tv show without the success of Game of Thrones.
It’s why there’s always a flood of similar shows/movies whenever something becomes popular.(I’m sure you know the city is called “Arnhem”, right ? :-))
July 21, 2019 at 1:15 pm #1416583Not much Hobby done today although I did some tokens for Air War that Jim (@oriskany) and I will be playing tomorrow at 8pm GMT over on Twitch. They’re sprue from three 4Ground Viking Buildings I built last week. Never throw anything away kids.
Had my Niece’s Baptism/First Birthday today so lots of family time. Apparently more than a decade of playing war games doesn’t help you beat an 8 Year Old at Go Fish, something the Community should be aware of 🙂Only took the one photo. My Dad, his Parent’s and My Brother, His Wife and baby Monique. The Park is named after my Grandfather (on the left) so they had to get a picture behind it and Uncle Elessar was sick of posing for photo’s so this is the only one I actually took all day. Unfortunately Mum and her Parents passed away so it was a one sided event but that’s life.
Better get to bed to wake up in time for the game tomorrow hopefully I can get some proper hobby done in the afternoon.
July 21, 2019 at 2:04 pm #1416589July 21, 2019 at 2:09 pm #1416590My inner model railway geek got awoken…
They all have the same coloured flowers as that is how I am going to be able to tell Platoons apart, this is the “not sure if it is pink or red” platoon. They should look ok with a matt varnish!
July 21, 2019 at 3:28 pm #1416610@horati0nosebl0wer – re: Cretaceous jokes … like Romain used to say: “You’re not quite older than dirt … but you do remember when it was installed …”
@robert – Great looking troops!
@warzan – epic ruins so far! I may not be a fan of 40K but I am always amazed at the work that gets put into the minis and tables.
@rasmus – yes, great game yesterday. I am starting the battle report now. I usually post in the Darkstar Project and also at least one other thread. Guess with thread that will be this time! 😀 😀 😀
@elessar2590 – Oh no! He’s got Maneuver Tiles already made up for today’s game of AirWar C21! THAT MEANS HE’S ACTUALLY READ THE RULES! I’M DOOMED! 😀
Sounds like you had a great day with the family. Man, a park named after someone in your family! That would be awesome! Back in the 50s my family had some roads in Montana named after them because they built the roads and got to unofficially name them. The names stuck for 30-40 years … until some jack-bag from the state capital commissioned a panel to re-name them officially in the 1990s and early 2000s. The family’s still irate about that.
All right, battle report time and finish prep for AirWar C21!
July 21, 2019 at 3:46 pm #1416616Yay … finally got some hobby done.
Da Boss is build. I’m keeping his big ol’ club separate, because it will make painting a bit easier.
This completes the generals/leaders of my minions.
Next up are the minions themselves. I don’t have enough units to make a valid army yet, but I need to build what I got first.
And the units I’ll be building are at their minimal size, which means I need moar minions anyway.July 21, 2019 at 3:57 pm #1416634Good Morning All!
Running a little short on sleep, as there was a rave in a field a mile and a half from the house, and I could hear the music like it was coming from the radio in the kitchen. The base rattled the windows. It’s an annual thing, so I know to get on to the RCMP early so they can dial back the noise. I’m all for parties and I get it, but I just finished working six days in a row, and needed some rack time. RCMP came by with lights and sirens at 0300 so clearly something went pear shaped; I’m thinking one of my neighbours may have shot up the place.
Busy day at my LGS yesterday, but managed to put together five crewmen, less their emergency air supplies. Took some time to gather all the bits together: the bodies and weapons are from Victoria Miniatures, the helmets are Puppetswar pilot helmets, while the heads are either GW or Dreamforge. The air tanks are Dreamforge magazines stuck on a bit of sprue, and connected to the helmets with a bit of paper clip.
The premise behind these is that the uniforms, despite their appearance, are actually vac suits, and that you will need to seal up once your starship takes hits and starts losing its air.
@rasmus good to see you here. I’m jealous! Looks like a great mancave space!
@robert those mini’s are looking awesome! I’m not sure yet how I’m going to base my WWII 15mm stuff. I’m not really fond of stands with multiple models on them. I know it makes things easier, and that they are a team that will operate together, but it seems to limit things tactically, and it doesn’t always look right on the table imho. Anyone else want to weigh in on this? I can still be convinced. 🙂
@oriskany I’m looking forward to finding some time for a Darkstar battle report. 🙂
@unclejimmy yes another book is on the way. Time is a problem for me right now.
This is Aran’s “I just tore up the garbage because my bowl is empty” look.
I may be next on the menu… rescues.
Music:
Out for lunch, then berry picking, and maybe a bit of hobby later in the day.
July 21, 2019 at 4:11 pm #1416643Later today I’m having a game of AirWar C21 with @elessar2590 – where we’ll be in the skies over North Vietnam as part of the “Rolling Thunder” operations that took place from 1965-1968.
We hope to have this game streamed live on the Sitrep Podcast Channel on Twitch, available here:
Our time is set up for 9PM UK time (4PM East US time, 6AM Monday Australian East Time).
We hope you’ll come by and check us out!
July 21, 2019 at 4:43 pm #1416647@limburger what the hell is that thing? Looks great!
@warzan that’s a good start to the 40k table! Some of it looks like the Rampart cathedral kickstarter. Did you support that? I ordered four sets… should be shipping any day now.
@oriskany sadly I won’t be able to watch the game. Will there be a battle report?
July 21, 2019 at 5:53 pm #1416648Just managed to build the guys here:
Time seem ripe for getting back in to Infinity, as once we are done with the current story arch in D&D, I will for the 1st time in around 20 years take the GMs chair for a couple of Infinity RPG sessions.
@warzan now that is putting out a statement in form of Terrain “We mean this seriously”, just watch out for that one Spacemarine who want to ride the statue late at night.
@elessar2590 Flashman would also be hard as it is the hard mix of humor and seriousness. Even could it get made I doubt it would work- the is a reason that in 99% of the cases the books are better than the TV/movie version
@robert looking good, on the later ones the camouflage almost works too well as my eyes at get pulled to the red bushes.
@cpauls1 almost forgot the most important in the games-command-room with the heat outside
And it is not powerful enough that it blows paper around the place.
@oriskany no rush from my side to get the battle report out but then again I was there
