@unclejimmy – Yep, the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle.
When a Garand just WON’T do … 🙂 🙂 🙂
July 23, 2019 at 8:44 pm #1417531@oriskany Poxwalkers are basic line… Zombies… for the Deathguard in Warhammer 40k.
We’ve had this discussion before how I couldn’t tell a Napoleonic Immortal from a Musketeer so no reason you should know my angle of nerdness.
Does anyone know a good ww4 game? Feel like after today’s news this might be exactly the time in history to be ready.
More music.
July 23, 2019 at 8:47 pm #1417532@oriskany I think I posted pics of the armoured cars a few years back. They were the warthogs from Antenocitis workshop. They’re kinda finished, but when all the recce models are built and painted I’m going to be assigning sensors in the design process, so will tack them on then, along with jerricans (water, not fuel), and other baggage. I want the recce troop to look like a WWII long range desert group in the end.
July 23, 2019 at 9:31 pm #1417533As Einstein is supposed to have said : I don’t know what weapons we’ll use in World War 3, but I do know about the ones in WW 4 : sticks & stones
So I suggest : SAGA
😀
Wait … Napoleon had immortals too ?

Currently watching ‘Savage Builds’ on Discovery Channel.
Adam Savage + Laura Kampf + Simone Giertz in a single episode weaponizing cars for the apocalypse.
I sense a theme emerging …https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10260580/?ref_=ttep_ep3
In previous episode he tried to build the ‘wheel of death’ which was a rocket powered wheel of doom that the Allies wanted to use during D-day. Something tells me that this is what the Skaven wheel of Doom is based on 😉
July 23, 2019 at 9:46 pm #1417534@unclejimmy I know Lothian Road quite well from my days in Edinburgh. There used to be 3 strip clubs in that area, we called it the “Pubic Triangle”. I got put off strip clubs in Montreal as an 18 year old and have never been back in one!
Wonderland is a great shop. I was trying to be cool when I lived in Edinburgh so was on a toy soldier hiatus so never went, but have been in on subsequent return visits. I am also pretty sure there is a shop not far from it called 6sToHit, I had coffee and cake in it once but it sold Warhammer/Warlord stuff… this was a few years ago mind you. Had two slices of the cake.
@oriskany I have a few bags knit that I keep stuff in my hobby shed already. One day I might even put dice in one of them 🙂
July 23, 2019 at 9:48 pm #1417535@limburger I watched the first episode of that when he 3D printed an Iron Man suit in Titanium and tried to learn to fly with jets on his hands and back. I also found some tins of Humbrol paint when I was sorting through old train stuff a short while back. I am going to try and turn them into some form of scatter terrain. I painted train stuff in enamels and the thing I hated most of the pain in the arse that cleaning the brush took!
July 24, 2019 at 3:26 am #1417547Success! I have put up the shelving to my mini paint racks and the acrylic for the pigments as well as other sundries for basing and effects. @cpauls1 No need to live vicariously through me. This is literally one wall of my bedroom in the basement. I’ve managed to make a mess (as you can see in the lower right) with having one of the racks fall forward on its face so its up in the air. I will be Santa Claus, of a sort, living in my own workshop.
@unclejimmy No cruelty on the walking stick. YouTube came up with the video and I thought it was interesting from the title. Thinking back to the sounds of Jesus and the Mary Chain, I harken back to the sounds of The Crow soundtrack. Thinking of Throbbing Gristle, and remembering reading an interview with Genesis P-Orridge long ago, you might want to take a dive into these
@sundancer Duckduckgo is a standby for me. The only painful thing I find is that the Boolean logic of search engines is limited to the AND function. I’m not aware of any that feature the NOT/OR arguments. It might just be my database experience that has jaded me. All this from the guy doing manual labor of having put together explosives.
On that front I just got hired on to a project installing solar panels. The interview today was just a formality and it all goes well. From one side of the energy divide to the other. No it has nothing to do with light/dark side… there aren’t any cookies involved.
@robert I might need to get you a care package of wool for the Giftmas season. Helping underserved hobbies of others is always a good thing. Fret not about the heat. I too will suffer it as I soon shall be running around rooftops for work (no cape involved).
@woldenspoons Long time no talk. The contrast work looks great. Has the paint been a help for getting more paint on figures as I think GW tried to market them? If you have the experience with using washes, do you find them to be any different? Thinking about the Giftmas I think I’ll ship off something to you too in future.
@cpauls1 I do hope that you get some rest. When one is hard pressed for sleep it shows. As you said you’re not in the 30s anymore and minis are important to paint well. Good find for Victoria minis. I’ve not ceased to be impressed from when they started through their collab with Reaper to make their huge field gun kit.
@crazyredcoat Shmancy! Very well painted stuff indeed. Lighting always makes a difference when trying to show off the paint work.
@limburger Scream queen tributes? All I can think about for the moment is owning an issue of a magazine that was devoted to them that featured some of the models for Blueblood.net. It was so long ago that I forget whatever happened to it. *shrug Live life, move often, shed stuff that burdens you in order to keep going.
And more music real quick as an edit
July 24, 2019 at 9:38 am #1417585An early start for me today.
@robert – “Nothing beats shoving a bit of sage or tarragon up a chicken’s arse!” A worth speech from a future member of Parliment. 30pts.
@limburger – If youhad made such a statement about Hammer films in one of our first communications then I would have hunted you down. Hammer rules. The first boobs I ever saw wee in a Hammer movie.
Mr. Lee & Mr. Cushing were doing movies way before that. Peter Cushing got started in a Laural & Hardy film, ‘A Chump at Oxford’. Mr. Cushing should be the patron saint of wargamers as he was one. He had to move house because the weight of all the lead soldiers was effecting the upstairs! He said that painting his collection of toy soldiers was how he survived the stress of making movies.
I might forgive you in a few years. Have you ever heard of “shunning”? 100pts.
You must know what ‘Burke & Hare’s’ is named after? It is where they are supposed to have plied their trade. Great bookshop close by and a space will bollards where the Police let me park my bike.
What excuse do you need to go and watch attractive young ladies dancing. Some of them are really unbelievable dancers. I have taken Heather a few time too. However, should your tastes be a little less ‘upmarket’ then you can walk over the road the ‘The Western Bar’. Rough is not the right word, but if you could get these girls on their knees you could make sawdust!
Blenheim Street Model Shop. Next to the ‘Diving Centre’ just off Westgate Road. My grandfather took me there when I was 5-6 and bought me a Spitfire kit. I was still buying stuff when I was 20 and then it moved when the redeveloped the surrounding area. It moved into what used to be ‘TITS’ (Tell-It Tshirts) next to a gay pub called The Courtyard. Then re revamped that part of the town when they built the Life Centre and the Newcastle Arena. Next thing I know it is a gay cafe.
Enamel paints were great colours and great coverage, but they sucked too. Cleaning brushes was a pain.
There is a shop/club, but they are 40gay! I’ll see if anyone else is interested. I’ll put the parts here first for all you greedy skinflints to fight over…
@sundance – it is part of Highgate Cemetery in London. It is the intro to Hammer movies, but closed to the public for a few years. We went for my 39th birthday. The night before we had seen Bauhaus play at the Forum. It is called the Egyptian Corridor and was built during the Egyptian craze in the early 1900’s.
See if you can find the openings for ‘Dr. Phibes’ or one of the Hammer compilations…’Tales from the Crypt’ (with Tom Baker) that I know is on YouTube. Never seen PB, but I imagine that it is just CGI. Georges Square in Glasgow was where they filmed the opening scenes from ‘World War Z’ Such a bad movie, but a great book.
@torros – even with your taste in mini minis it would still take a few to do Napoleonic games. Glad to hear you are well and still gaming. 100pts.
@oriskany – I will have a browse tonight when Heather is out. Good one. I have the Puggies today so it was an early start. Had to walk them first thing because of the heat. They are walked and tucking into their breakfast of eggs and cheese. They are not spolied.
I also go stuck into making air-con pipes for my garages this morning…
Rosie, one of my cats, comes in with chunks missing from his nose almost every morning. Scabs and lumps when you stroke him. Proper beast.
I always love your battle reports. Such detail. I would really love to take part in one of your game…someday. If you make it back to BoW HQ I might be able to make it that far!
I bought the tanks from a dealer when I bought a load of other stuff. Jamie sold him his Dwarf army and we went to his house to drop them off. He showed me some of his stock and we came to an agreement. If anyone has a use for them just let me know before I put the up for offers.
Those tables are in the Wacoshop HQ gaming hall. They even had FW tables you could play on. When I used to go down they has a store member who was an amazing painter, but he painted standing up and wandering about. He looked exactly like white Jesus. Maybe that has something to do with his skill?
@woldenspoons – what news have I missed now? I heard that Buffoon Johnson was made (not elected) PM of the UK. What a joke. British democracy is a joke now after they wanted another vote when they lost. I suppose what with all the drugs, fraud, and molesting children, that they forget how democracy is meant to work.
Star Trekkin’ is the best. Another great UK No.1 single.
@horati0nosebl0wer – I almost fainted at the mess!
I love the girl on the front of ‘Dead is the New Alive. Tasty meat. I will give them a listen too.
July 24, 2019 at 10:31 am #1417622Closing time is 2200hrs where ever you are. Hey, it’s not your fault you are not English! Another good book I have been reading is this…
I have also been working on my ‘pledge’.
The start of the air-con. Breaks up the roof and adds some always needed cover.
Dumpsters and some set decoration…
Sorry about the pictures, but it was extra-early this morning.
A little bit more work on this too. I want it for a game on sunday.
July 24, 2019 at 11:05 am #1417635@unclejimmy Just got a lot going on right now. I’ll try and get some pics sorted for the next one.
@cpauls1 Always Infinity. Operation Wildfire and Defiance will kill my hobby budget this year 🙂 How’re all your animals doing?
July 24, 2019 at 11:29 am #1417641@seldon9 – just drop in and say “hello” if you are extra busy. Glad to see you are still playing Infinity. We have just ordered the new sets. Good job Jamie had a pay-rise!
They just keep making such stunning minis. Bastards. Talented bastards and worth every penny. 100pts.
July 24, 2019 at 11:47 am #1417644Since I have been away so long I keep finding new things. I just saw the ‘Hobby’ thing that is live. Interesting. I still need to know about the name change. Is BoW now OTT?
For my next ‘chipping’ project I am going to try using hairspray. Dave says. The truck was just done by hand, but I promised him I would give the technique a blast. I have also been watching quite a few YouTube video tutorials on airbrushing, but I am not sure I am that confident yet!
Thanks to everyone for taking part. Do you want me to do it again…or have you had enough and want to go back to your slack and sloppy ways?
@cpauls1 – in out Traveller games I introduced an agricultural world. The planet E1-E1-0. Nobody noticed. I was thinking about that last night as I dozed off while watching ‘Voyage to the Planets’. I am having trouble with my landing module in KSP. That drifted into my thoughts as I fell asleep. I am sure I stole the idea from the old cartoon in White Dwarf…back when you could still read it.
That is the enterance to the bit from the Hammer movies. Normally the lower orders are not allowed, but as writer for the National Association of Cemeteries they let us join a guided tour and then wander off. I wanted to visit the grave of Elizabeth Siddle, but it has become so overgrown and neglected that you can’t even get close. We tried, but couldn’t even see it.
That is Heather’s ass plodding up the road.
A few more pictures if anyone is interested.
July 24, 2019 at 11:58 am #1417649This was posted on Facebook on 21st June @unclejimmy – one of the advantages of half remembering everything I read or see
So we changed our name 🙂
This time last year we announced we were changing our name to OnTableTop 🙂
Today Facebook allowed us to change it here – its still a work in progress and quite the challenge to get the social companies to make the change.
Some folk are asking why so this little post outlines the basics 🙂
About 18 Months ago we started to suspect that we were getting a kind of shadow ban on YouTube, and we did some research with some other YouTubers and found that our name Beasts of War was being flagged as a keyword. (We also tried their ad platform and found every Ad we entered being automatically declined – so clearly something was up)
We suspect we were getting caught up as collateral damage in YouTube’s attempts at controlling the types of content appearing on their platform.
Being a pretty tiny company in the grand scheme of things, as you can imagine getting any help from YouTube was near impossible. We got a big YouTube to back channel for us and finally got some cryptic feedback that ‘We can’t give you a clear answer but a name change wouldn’t do any harm’
To be honest we have been considering a bit of a name change for a while (We had an interesting interaction with a youth religious group that thought we were satanists that took a bit of explaining lol)
While we love the name dearly and still plan on doing some stuff with the Beasts of War moniker we are all about trying to recruit new people to this wonderful hobby of ours so felt we should create a name and vibe that would allow us to do that, without worrying about being caught up in the politics of YouTube content or having to explain to mums and dads that we don’t want to eat their first borns lol
So yes we are OnTableTop and we love games, and we are out to help as many people as we possibly can join our wonderful hobby.
In our hearts we’ll always be Beasts and we know a ton of you will too!
Lots of hobby love folks!
Warren
July 24, 2019 at 12:00 pm #1417650@unclejimmy The BoW team noticed their content on youtube was getting flagged for being unsuitable or something and concluded the name was the problem. On Table Top is more family friendly. Also they’ve branched out into reviewing boardgames so wanted something a bit more generic.
The grognards still call them Beasts of War. I suspect Justin is a beast of war regardless of the game.
Those are some cool pics. The hairspray method for chipping worked very well for me.
July 24, 2019 at 12:41 pm #1417652@seldon9 – well, I said I would give it a try.
@robert – awesome stuff. You rule. 100pts. I do understand the YT has become quite draconian and BoW has to be a ‘business’ about things. “Beasts of War” is probable some right-wing, satanic militia somewhere in Utah! Maybe “beasts of war” is an anagram for “all children should hail satan and play wargames”. I always had my doubts…
You know the saying, “the less things change – the more they stay the same”. I did see the logo when I had a browse, but just thought it was for something I had missed. Or the new name for the home page.
It is roasting here. I am on my third t-shirt of the day. All the local neds are walking about topless and the Puggies are passed in the kitchen. Windows open and blinds closed. They love laying on the concrete floor…very cool. I am going to have a break and watch something. Maybe I will watch ‘The Day the Earth Caught Fire’? Great movie if you haven’t seen it.
I’ll be back for more fun and games later. Remember: closing time is 2200hrs tonight. That is 2200hrs where ever you might be. It makes it easier. Rule Britannia.
