i really, really HATE Gorilla Glue

I have recently gone through at LEAST three, maybe four bottles of Gorilla Superglue, which has strangely become the ONLY superglue widely available in Alberta. The reason I find it so mystifying that Gorilla Superglue seems to be the only glue around is that I can NOT get it to work, in any way.

Out of the three or four bottles, I have only gotten ONE to actually dispense the superglue. It glued the lid to the nozzle. For the other bottles, I have tried slamming it into the desk, I have tried squeezing the bottles with plyers, I have tried clearing out the nozzle with paper clips.

Nothing works.

I would suggest cutting the bottle and using a match stick to apply the glue to the area you need it.

Obviously the glue is going to dry up on the bottle soon after you have exposed it to the air, but I cannot think of any other way!

I find I have to do this with most superglues after awhile due to the lids eventually getting stuck to the bottle.

After than buy online – I would recommend the Loctite superglue that comes with the little brush. Excellent for small pieces.

Some youtuber said that they leave the top off until the glue runs back down the nozzle and any unseen wet glue on the outside of the nozzle has dried  before replacing the cap.  Not tried this myself. Might have been trapped under plastic on miniac’s channel.

I also like Loctite’s superglue design, although prefer the one with the black cap and clear body so you can see the glue level. Before Loctite, I had okayish results with the tubes “resealed” with aluminum foil between the cap and the glue. Additionally, dispense the glue onto a sheet of aluminum foil or a plastic bottlecap, and apply with a paper clip end.

My problem with Gorilla Glue is that, with one exception, I can’t get the glue out of the nozzle. I don’t think I’ve even gotten the glue into the nozzle.

Superglue sucks.

However, it is, in some cases, the ONLY thing that will work, especially if the pieces are too small or fragile to be pinned or are so awkwardly positioned that you cannot fashion any jig to hold them in place while epoxy dries.

In my experience, the cheapie little tubes you get at dollar (now $ 1.25) stores in packs of 3, 4 or 5 often work better than the ‘premium’ brands. One trick you might try to prevent the lid/screwtop getting glued to the bottle is to put a dab of petroleum jelly on the threads.

go to a builders merchant / DIY / hardware store and look for mitre fast. its superglue with activator spray and it is cheap. in the uk it is £5 for 50g where as posh superglue is £4 for 5g. its a no brainer

I’ve been using their glue that comes with the brush built into the interior of the nozzle so you can use either – did me pretty well for most of a year but I need to replace it now as it’s gotten a tad gloopy and difficult to get any fine control on how much is on the brush. But if I have to buy a new tube every year or so? That’s not too bad…

I got a bottle once  but only used it 3/4 times as it slowly turned to gel then rock hard in about 6 months.

I’ve no suggestions about not getting any out.

Yeah, we apparently don’t have that kind around here (probably the only form of Gorilla Glue we don’t have).

Found some Lepage glue today, I’ll see how that works soon.

I buy the small 3g tubes of gel so that when (not if) the glue goes off you don’t lose a big bottle’s worth. I’ve found in the long run this ends up less expensive. Loctite and Gorilla both have this option. I’ve used these for fiddly Infinity metals without an issue.

I use loctite. I did try gorilla glue once and only the once as I couldn’t get the cap off the second time. Since then I have gone back to loctite I have also taken to storing it in the fridge when the weather warms up, it does seem to last longer that way.

Buying the small tubes is another option I use. If it’s no good when you come to use it next time it’s not a great loss

I also have gluing sessions and sit and build multiple kits and do repair jobs at the same time. Try and get as much use out of a bottle or tube that I can.

Definitely try keeping it cold I’m sure I get less issues since I have been doing this.

i find poundland/ Poundshop superglue is better then any named brands out there. and you get 2 or 3 glue bottles in a pack

At this time, I am using the Gorilla Glue brand gel superglue, which seems to be working well and hasn’t clogged. I am pretty careful keeping it upright as much as possible and removing any buildup that might fuse the cap to the bottle. It is fairly expensive, though.

The little tubes you get from DollarTwentyFive Tree –  equivalent to Poundland, I suppose – are ok, but rather messy and do foul quickly. On the plus side, they’re cheap enough, on the not-so-plus side, I hate to add even more toxic crap to the landfills….
