Speaking of things missing in 40k. I’d really like to have the fluff from the 2nd edition Ork codex back.
Boss: “WhatZ datt?”
Mek: “Big Dakka!”
Boss: “What doez it do?”
Mek: “DAKKA! But can get hot”
Boss: “and then?”
Mek: “then it goes BOOOOOM”
Boss: “I NEEDZ 10 OF DOZE!!!”
In other clans: some Grot hitting the big red button and the squadron of bikes speeds through the lines on infantry and boosts past any table end…. cheering and howling…
I miss a proper Waaaaaagh!
September 11, 2018 at 11:08 am #1265450@irishsteve South Kildare? Nice. Not too far from some Game Clubs. Are you on ‘Irelands Gaming Community’ on FB. Was it weird being a foreigner in Korea?
@sundancer You sound like you need a nap dude. And then start a WAAAGH. You seem excited for Orks. Orktober is coming…
@elessar2590 Its unfortunate I did not take any pics of his stuff, but all in due time.
@woldenspoons There are these too:
September 11, 2018 at 11:20 am #1265479@mage I would be excited if I were to belive that GW would go back to fun orks… but I highly doubt it. They just got gradually more and more serious and less fun… at least IMHO
September 11, 2018 at 12:11 pm #1265525September 11, 2018 at 12:14 pm #1265531@mage jupp… plus there is so much stuff right now… constant stream of Star Wars Legion, new X-Wing, I’d love to jump into Fallout Wasteland Warfare and the Boardgame and I will not think of all that what shall not be spoken of and is hidden in the closet of backlog….
September 11, 2018 at 1:02 pm #1265552hey @all, quick responses only – apologies have been nursing an uncooperative headache all day… X-P
@mage heh, the Tau joke made me laugh. Although to be honest that is one of the things that always perplexed me about most 40k armies – whats the point of all the deadly weaponry if you just end up charging across the battlefield and clubbing your opponent anyhow? … Glad some of your loot arrived in the post. Hope the lack of spray paint wasn’t too much of a roadblock to getting stuff progressed for you.
@oriskany campaign map looks great! Looking at it I can practically smell the cigarette stubs and taste the bitter black coffee for the authentic General’s command post experience 😉 Hope you get some sleep soon and haven’t had to go driving or anything. You catching any residual from Florence? Those darkstar vessels look outstanding! Really great work on them.
@dawfydd No fun – Hope you get a break soon, and hope you are at least feeling a little better. Hadn’t thought of the use of Primaris as ‘true scale’ marines, that is a clever idea. As I’m doing Kill Teams to mess about with the 3rd Armageddon war I might save the primaris for one of the chapters that didn’t fight there. Dark Angels maybe? Might just be a nice opportunity to paint something in a different colour.
@woldenspoons heh yes you would end up filing them into nothingness – they are like that the whole way through. Glad the issue is resolved now anyhow. Helter Skelter is my favourite Beatles track – well played 🙂 Am with you on the trench/siege rules for 40k. Of course if both you and your opponent were keen you can always home brew things if you want to up the ‘realism’ level a little.
@sundancer are you considering any weathering or grime to break up the grey on the tower? Or some panel lines or similar perhaps? Nice progress on the rebels.
@elessar2590 I wish I’d known about Sabaton when doing history in high school – it probably would have kept me much more engaged…
@irishsteve 13 years in Korea – awesome! My GF was there for a year teaching english in a hagwan (sp?) near Gangbuk i think it was?… I got to visit for a couple of weeks, amazing place. Hope you can find somewhere locally that does decent Korean food to ease the transition 🙂
@sundancer @mage having seen @oriskany finish off his LRDG I am contemplating an Ork equivalent for my main project next month – the ‘Long range Dakka Group’. Rest assured, we can rescue the whimsical and chaotic greenskins of old from their grimdark future descendents… 🙂
Well a local online retailer had a sale on so looks like I have more historical mins inbound to add to the pile of shame. (my rule about discounted historicals is buy first, work out what to do with them later…). Some ACW and AWI stuff (Perry miniatures) to set aside for the GF to give me for my birthday, plus some more Napoleonics bits and pieces (a mix of Perry and Warlord). I really need to learn to paint faster ;-P
September 11, 2018 at 1:49 pm #1265565Wow, nice to see that the hobby weekenders are still up and running!
Some of you might remember me, some might not, but well i’m Querion and at the moment i’m trying to ease myself back into the hobby and this community. And i think there is no better place for that than here!
So, let’s see those questions!
1.) To be honest, i never thought much about posability or single pose until now. So far i was just looking at the minis and took those i liked and/or that inspired me and nothing else mattered to me. So i guess i like both worlds, posability is nice, but i like them single pose too if it is a nice ad dynamic pose.
2.) Hmm that is a tough one, there are some that i painted and that i really like, but i see the flaws in all of them, and the areas where i still can improve oh so much. I guess i’ll have to go with three pics from my collection here. The best that i think i painted is a close call between my 3 Death Marshalls for Malifaux:
(I’m really tempted to try that whole Ghost Rider-look for my Nighthaunt for AoS)
Or my newest work, which got me the first place in a painting challenge at my local GW store:
But those where just for painting, so far i haven’t tried myself at converting stuff very much, but once i jumped into the cold water and just went a bit crazy with the thought of how would it look if some nurgle demons infested some of the slvaneth tree spritis, and i’m still a little bit proud of what came out in the end:
Just going all in and mixing two sets of minis in that manner was a real blast. my painting is not the best here, but that doesn’t take away all the fun i had during that project.
3.) oh i’m such a butterfly, i buy minis just because i like the looks of them and i’m allways jumping between projects and ideas … some day i really need to finish some of them! In games i’m also drawn towards to many systems that look interesting or that have great minis. And that all gets worse if i look at RPGs, i own a vast collection of different systems and played most of them, and i’ve got an even larger collection of characters for those games … and most of those characters never got used. I just love to read about all those different settings and worlds, and i love to build characters that live in them.
Let’s see, what music do i listen to at the moment:
ok time to read through the thread, i hope i’ll manage to comment a bit later today … but let me tell you: it feels like comming home to be back!
September 11, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1265591September 11, 2018 at 3:32 pm #1265626Thanks, @elessar2590 – Regarding Darkstar, I don’t want to promise anything, but I am increasingly interested in some kind of video playthrough. I may wind up producing something like this myself after the boot camp. I know @warzan likes and supports and follows the project, he’s asked me about some more content on this. I guess we’ll see what happens, but again, I don’t want to promise anything for myself, much less the BoW team.
Very interested in the Barbary War project – a unique period of history for the Corps.
Thanks, @evilstu – yes, I’ve had a 7-hour night and a 6-hour night now, so I’m getting back to normal. 😀 Also, my “pre-deployment” package was sent out to BoW Studios for the boot camp (including two copies of that map), so there’s some pressure off. Now getting ready for Friday’s live stream. Hope to maybe see some of you guys there if possible! 😀
September 11, 2018 at 4:52 pm #1265637@elessar2590 let me add my thanks for hosting to the long list of those who already did so 🙂 and you chose some interesting questions that made me think about stuff that never occured to me.
@evilstu that frost giant looks cool and i really like the NMM on the axe and that beard looks gorgeous. i bet that took a long time to get right?
@biggabum hope your wife is better now.
@mage and @elessar2590 SW:L covering the clone wars in additon to what it already does could finaly reel me in. I have to admit that i’ll allways have a sweet spot in my heart for the old Star Wars Miniature Games with the Boosterboxes. Don’t get me wrong, i hate buying Minis in Boosters, and the quality was not the best, but well thats what you get with prepainted stuff … but i loved the game for all the different epochs it covered, and for the amount of factions you could play.
@elessar2590 i like your rohan heroes, especially what you did with the horse armor. So, how are the new rules?
@oriskany i’m looking forward to read about the boot camp campaign in the logs about it, and that map looks great. I’m always impressed about all the work you put into this stuff and your eye for detail. Oh and those scrap builds for your ships are fantastic! That looks like a game i could get stuck in.
@irishsteve welcome back in good old europe. I hope the culture shock wasn’t as big on your return compared to when you first arrived in south korea 😉
@mage and @sundancer i miss the good old crazy orks too … and reading what you two talked about …. damn now i really need to start a silly little project i had in mind …. just imagine a huuuuugggee drum, like the japanese and in the past the chinese used ….
but in front of it not a punny human but a huge ork … like the Warchanter from GW ( https://www.games-workshop.com/de-DE/Ironjawz-Orruk-Warchanter ) drumming every ork in a hearing distance into a frenzy, with some nice glowing waaagh-effects on his “drum sticks” and the drum itself….
September 11, 2018 at 4:56 pm #1265638@querion You had me at Ghost Rider.
September 11, 2018 at 6:03 pm #1265674September 11, 2018 at 7:31 pm #1265713Thanks very much, @querion ! 😀 I like the flaming death marshals, and those other minis look great but also delicate and fragile.
September 11, 2018 at 8:00 pm #1265719September 12, 2018 at 5:05 am #1265851With the arms sorted , I’ve pretty much got these tank riders done . Just a few touch ups on paint and then a wash . Could manage to fit six . Between the raised fan shrouds and covers on the engine deck and the poses of the original figures its major surgery / reconstruction to fit more unless they’re all sitting . Best I’ve done is 9 Ivans on a T-34/85
