@mage that troll is stunning. I like the Easterling style armour on it too. Can we have a group picture? I’m a sucker for Easterlings.
September 3, 2018 at 6:42 am #1261599I don’t have any easterlings done even up to base coats yet. However the awesomeness of trolls together can not be contained by a frame!
September 3, 2018 at 7:45 am #1261623September 3, 2018 at 8:18 am #1261633@mage and then there is graph with matching time zones…. like non existent XD At least that is how it feels.

@biggabum I love the walking dead and all things within. I didn’t play series one though, only series two and it was brilliant. You missed another special edition in that group shot too ?
@mage They have a Cave Troll! Wrong. They have two! Just look out for hobbits.
@oriskany You didn’t tell us you can paint! They look fabulous. That grey wash working wonders for you.
@evilstu Zig and Zag moved to The Big Breakfast and were immensely popular due to talent. I mean just watch that video. They did two others like that Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden and Sabotage by Beastie Boys. Three of my top ten songs. They had taste for sure.
As for Salamanders unfortunately I won’t have them until about 80 issues of Warhammer 40k Conquest
September 3, 2018 at 12:08 pm #1261827@biggabum thanks for the feedback on the TT combat kits and the pic. Scale for the building looks good with both minis oddly enough… Although the BA one does look a little like a child in that playground… yeah you are right about the price point 🙂
@woldenspoons nice progress on the walking dead crew. Yeah flesh is one area in particular where I fall down – I really must get some practice in on some nicer minis… Good to see you are testing yourself and stretching your abilities outside of your usual comfort zone 🙂 Oddly enough I was thinking of doing a Salamanders kill team, but it is the converting/sculpting scaled skin on the shoulder plates and tabards that’s making me hold off…
@oriskany great work on the LRDG! Glad you persevered. Primer aside, did you find it much different working on the larger minis? Yeah the vehicles are sort of a strange point between the smaller scale with only a few pieces and full-blown 1/35 model kits, so oddly occupy a point with some of the more unfortunate qualities of both (ie multipart but smaller scale…). Travel safe, enjoy your time with the family 🙂
@mage awww! What a cute robopyppy mini! Ok, well that’s what I saw when I first looked at it… Seriously though, nice work on the metals. Great looking test ork! Not a bad idea – might bash out a test mini before I get rolling on any serious project. Nice progress on your various projects, really liking the way your metals are looking no the troll. Was this done using soft tone ink again? And agree with @sundancer. the red gun casing looks much more Orky… I may steal this… <_<
September 3, 2018 at 12:08 pm #1261828@mage Nice work on the drones. The Ork is really really nice, love the skintone (im with @sundancer definately a yay). Loving the Mr Freeze crew…. Matty says they are as cool as (cant repeat the word on the forum 😀 ) He’s actually thinking of starting a Mr Freeze crew next. As for the Trolls, they are exceptional.
@woldenspoons Yes I did miss him mate, distracted by lee and Clem, Scott Moon?
September 3, 2018 at 12:15 pm #1261832@evilstu No problems mate. The kits do say 28mm – 35mm but I agree with you, the 28mm Mini’s do look a little small with some of the stuff (they look a little small next to the dumpsters too). Other than that they are pretty good methinks. Not as good as 4ground by any stretch but then again you could kit out a good sized section of city for the same price as a couple of 4ground houses.
September 3, 2018 at 12:20 pm #1261835September 3, 2018 at 12:25 pm #1261836September 3, 2018 at 1:37 pm #1261855Okay, time to get caught up a little on Q/A and comments.
(1) You get the choice of anyone, real or not, to be your regular gaming opponent. Who would it be?
My regular teammate is Scarlett Johansson, every week we face off in a 2-on-2 game of Panzer Leader against Cherlize Theron and Mila Kunis. When one of them isn’t feeling up to it or the scheduling conflicts with a photo shoot, Olivia Wilde or Gal Gadot sometimes steps in. 😀
(2) Music time!
Not really an Elvis guy myself. Johnny Cash was the man, though!
(3) What would you like for a boot camp?
Almost any system would work for me. What makes it great for me is a campaign. So at the head of a hall is some kind of campaign map, with the tables resolving battles in progress. As the results from the tables come in, the campaign map is updated so the whole boot camp is welded together into telling a single cohesive (and epic) narrative!
Historical, sci-fi, fantasy, this works for any genre!
September 3, 2018 at 1:57 pm #1261867Some more responses –
I like some peoples’ more serious responses to “gaming opponent” – well, more serious than mine. I like @mage ‘s idea of Steven King GM’ing an RPG and @evilstu wanting to wargame against HG Welles.
@biggabum – more great Batman narrative, and this is coming from someone who’s not even really a comics guy. If I was, though, I prefer comic characters who are more grounded, no supernatural powers, like Batman or the Punisher.
@sundancer – I love the scratch built terrain. did something similar for Battetech a while ago, it was a lot of fun (even if I did impale myself on a broken razor blade). Gotta suffer for your art! 😀
@woldenspoons – thanks for hosting this week. Epic work on the Deathguard! Those minis look extremely intricate, are they terribly fragile?
Patton as your opponent? He’d be easier to beat than you think. A little overrated in my humble opinion, at least among American historians / collective memory. The only real trick would be making sure you were playing on defense. Patton is very good in attack but also quite predictable, easily goaded, and not terribly imaginative. His one real shining moment as a true commander is right before the Battle of the Bulge.
If we could play with / against Patton in a wargame, I’d like to put him on sustained, operational defense … i..e, in Manstein’s boots on the Eastern Front, Feb 43-March 44. It’s the kind of battle Patton never had to fight, I’d be genuinely interested to see how he’d do. Aggression is a big part of it, he might honestly do awesome!
@evilstu – that’s an awesome table! Regarding the roads, I find that some scatter terrain like carefully-laid aquarium pebbles laid along the side can help blend them with the table. Little bits of scrap green moss, etc (left over from making trees, etc). Also, fences. The fence “excuses” the sharpness of the transition, and makes the sharp transition look natural and logical.
September 3, 2018 at 2:06 pm #1261869@woldenspoons – I like the Walking Dead gang so far. Civilians can be refreshing to paint, less tedious than uniformed soldiers. And yes, I paint. Won a couple Golden Buttons … but admittedly not a lot lately. I think the last big army project i launched into was the US / VC / NVA triple-army for the Vietnam / Tet Offensive article series … built and painted in Dec-January. So definitely coming out of a slump.
@biggabum – I like the MDF buildings, especially the little playground! 😀 Thanks for the kind words on the 28mm LRDG.
@mage – interesting robot. Is that some kind of sentry / security droid? I’m always a sucker for a red-and-black color scheme, especially when nicely muted like you’ve done it. I also love the underbite metal jaw on that Orc. So cute! 😀
