@mage Humble Bundle is a gaming website that offers limited time bundles of games and other digital content where you can pay what you like and get more content if you pay more than certain thresholds. They have a monthly subscription where you pay £12 and get 7 or so games, typically at least one being a decent, if not AAA title. This month the bundle includes Blizzards ott multiplayer shooter Overwatch, and I’ve found it to be damn good fun so far.
Sound! Euphonium is a slice of life anime that follows a high school band, and damn me if it wasn’t ridiculously engaging.now I just have to write my review of it >_<
5).. continued. I meant to add that Marvel took time to establish the Avengers over the first few years, and took pains to pick interesting directors and stars to establish Iron Man, Thor and Captain America (as well as Black Widow & Hawkeye) before bringing them together for Avengers. Even in the subsequent “Phases” they have rarely gone for the safe option and have played the long game. The problem is that Sony, Warners, Universal and others have attempted to replicate the results without putting in the work that Marvel did.So far the only effort I’d say has been successful has been the Godzilla/Kong films which work in their own right – hell, until the stinger of Kong you wouldn’t have known they were in the same universe.

Ill be sure to check them out. 5 additional points with the points you make on Marvel. None of the other Studios were willing to put in the same core foundation, character establishment and world building. Warner rushed it with the DCEU and ultimately screwed it up, like baking a cookie at too high a temperature for a shorter time period and having it turn out bad.

Great to see you back! 😀 🙂 8)
Nice Chaos Dreadnought. Or Hellbrute. 10 points!

Still haven’t watched that movie. Though I never saw the third of the Brendan Frasier Mummy movies either. Though I quite enjoyed the first two.
Humble Bundle, Bag Of Holding is another one. Most often RPG’s but I know one of them recently did a Black Library collection. Warhammer Fantasy RPG collection too if I remember correctly…
@evilstu hey, sorry! I realise that I hadn’t replied to your question about Simple Green. Bunnings is my source! $6.20 for a spray bottle. It’s ok as a paint stripper, there are better. But at least it doesn’t start to eat the plastic of the mini!
So I’ve switched over to Orktober. Elves will have to wait. I had to obtain some more supplies to finish them anyway. The Dungeon Saga Orcs will have to wait as well though, since I want them done fairly quick in the Army Painter style – I need a colour spray to get the bulk of the colour done.
So I’m switching to GorkaMorka orks!
Started many a year ago when GorkaMorka was new. I can use these guys as the basis for a Kill Team when I get around to playing.
October 1, 2018 at 10:57 am #1278262@rayzryr ah Ok that’s the Simple Green I have been using then. Have had mixed results but given the stuff I have seen used in the interwebs (from the U.S?) seemed to be more of a liquid concentrate just wanted to make sure I was on the right page. Cheers 🙂 Serious Orc horde you have to work through there 🙂
@mage love the colour in your Albionics. Forces will be generally Armageddon-ish. For the Salamanders planning ion using the 5th company (I think?…) as I like the look of their shoulder pads (Black dragon head silhouette ona flaming background). Both units were painted as in the earlier shots, only progress I had made this week to that point was the gun barrels.
@tuffyears pic reminds me of this 🙂
Todays progress – washes on the Orks – going for a mixed paint scheme (1/3 of the models will have blue, yellow or red accent colours so multiple squads can be fielded in big games of kill team without too much confusion…)
Still not sure whether to do the vehicles in desert camo or go for the 3 base colours…
Also finished the shading on my British Dragoon horses but it may be a bit subtle, especially if I am going to consider a soft tone wash on top
And got the block colours finished on 35 foot knights. now just need to paint the leather straps, touch up, dip and base.
Off for an early night to catch up on sleep before month-end – happy hobbying all! 🙂
October 1, 2018 at 1:37 pm #1278300*phew* bootcamp is over, I’m home. And best of all : Blood&Plunder arrived today 🙂
I managed to build an entire army in a single day, except for the metal kits that never ever seem to assemble. Lack of instructions on how to build them made it less fun to build them as well. 🙁
It was fun, I won something because one of my units didn’t panic (yay).
On to the questions.
1) Did you see the movie ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’? And what did you think?
Seen it. To me it was a checklist of his past instead of a movie.
The worst parts are :a) the moment they reveal how he gets to be called ‘Solo’ … I was like ‘whiskey tango foxtrot?’
b) Jabba the Hutt only getting mentioned … missed opportunity to show why he was after Han in the first place to be honest.2) What is an acclaimed movie or one a fanbase really enjoys but you hated? Also why
I thought no one liked the Hobbit trilogy ? At least I doubt anyone who has read the book can even like half of that trilogy TBH.
I’d have to pick ‘Avatar’. Soo much hype for a movie that’s ‘Pocahontas in Space’.3) What is a movie with ok to bad reception that you liked?
‘Sucker Punch’ … at least from what I’ve heard people don’t like it.
I loved the weirdness of it all. Tiny girl fighting giant Samurai monsters, dragons, weird world war 1, and great plot twist.I’d also have to pick ‘Ghost in a shell’ as another movie that was probably disliked by fans of the anime/manga, but I liked it anyway except for a tiny reveal that made me wonder why they even bothered with that bit.
4) Slightly different question, what movies disappointed you
That Will Smith movie ‘Suicide Squad’.
So much potential for cool stuff, because it is ‘Dirty Dozen’ with evil super heroes.Than they had to make the lead a good guy (or at least they attempt it, because they show he cares for his family … *blergh*) a plot that never made any sort of sense.
It got even worse when I saw a video pointing at all the editing ‘mistakes’ which made me wonder what a train wreck the movie had been if they had not messed with it. I kind of hope they reboot this one and get someone to write a plot that makes sense (and stop trying to be so flocking pc).
5) Can an affective movie universe outside of Marvels be done?
I think they can, but only if they avoid using existing franchises and think of something new.
I’d also say Marvel (and superhero movies in general) are overrated.
Maybe it’s because I never got into comics, but superhero movies lack tension.
There is no real danger to the protagonist, unless it is yet another reboot of a franchise and the ‘hero’ is learning about his powers.
That’s not to say that action movies can’t be boring (the story arc can be predictable when not handled with care), but at least the victory isn’t as easy.
Iron Man 3 only worked because they first remove his powers and force him to be more human. The problem with that approach is that it can only be done once or it gets boring.
Net result is power creep that makes no sense at all.
It’s also why I never played the sequel to ‘Mass Effect’. My character had become too powerful so the sequels could tell any interesting story of growth.October 1, 2018 at 9:13 pm #12785161) Did you see the movie ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’? And what did you think?
I genuinely really enjoyed it. Great crime caper romp set in the Star Wars universe filling in some cool things we’d always like to see. Sure, he wasn’t quite ‘Han’ as we know him but ideally there will be a sequel. Sadly following its reaction this may not happen.
2) What is an acclaimed movie or one a fanbase really enjoys but you hated? Also why
I usually love everything, However, I do remember having an argument with an old horrible boss about Hannibal Rising. I thought it was utterly tosh. She thought it was the best clever film ever. She was wrong. As usual.
3) What is a movie with ok to bad reception that you liked?
Again I like everything but currently I would say the live action Bleach. It’s funny, good action and effects. A little treat. (I’ve not seen the anime). Better than this I am a fan of the Dark Tower film. I’ve read all the books too and still doesn’t ruin this film for me.
4) Slightly different question, what movies disappointed you
Geostorm. I’m fine with trashy made for TV style films but this was just really underwhelming.
5) Can an affective movie universe outside of Marvels be done?
Sure, they just need me to help them. DC are getting there it’s just a shame they can’t tie in the films and the popular TV series. I believe Titans Ties in to the films so that should help.
My wife and I are always creating Mash Up shows and anytime there is a crossover I get excited. The DC shows do it fantastically but there are plenty of other shows who could do it. The Blacklist and Elementary instantly comes to mind.
Movie wise, the unbreakable trilogy has me salivating. Film one and two were brilliant by themselves and the trailer for number three looks like he is just letting loose and going for it. Oh just realised another answer to a question above. Well done if you spot the stealth edit before getting here.
Hobby wise I’ve mostly just been building this weekend.
I’ve built some Primaris marines to start with. Then yesterday I picked up the Sector Mechanicus scenery expansion for kill team. This is a seriously great kit. The box makes a brilliant thump when you drop it. Expensive but well worth it. Oh and I didn’t get any games in. Annoying me greatly.
October 2, 2018 at 12:14 am #1278640I did not get a chance to reply today, busy at work. Im off tomorrow, so stay tuned! Also, almost finished one of my Arcworlde models (down to the last stages of the batches, then onto Orks!). Also terrain…
Anyone have feedback for me on my Gundams?
October 2, 2018 at 6:56 pm #1279214@rayzryr (15 points)
Yeah those were the ones. Me neither. I was never too pushed or excited for them.
Ill be sure to check that out.
GORKAMORKA ORKS! 15 points for nostalgia!
I need to start going back to Ork stuff today. The 2nd is getting a bit late! Im still doing work on terrain and Albionnicans but tonight my warboss will get primed and Ill do another coat of red on my dreads, maybe. Its been a busy day…
@evilstu (40 points)
Thanks! Yeah, they are sorta the canon colours for Albionnicans. I want to do the makority of them in the red/grey/black and then maybe do a small warbands worth as a different regiment from the rulebook. Maybe as the Navy or Monster Corp. Ill see. 10 points for the meme.
Decent progress on the Orks. 10 points.
10 points for the Dragoons and 10 for the Foot Knights. What exactly is a Dragoon?
Good night!
October 2, 2018 at 7:18 pm #1279223I did a wash on my woods, one with soft tone and one with strong tone. The results are quite good
When dry:
My left wrist kind of hurts. I think I did too much hobby today.
I also did these:
Pics of the hobby you did or it didn’t happen!
1) Valid points, 10 points. Would you say it would have made the movie better if they saved bits and pieces to be sprinkled across two movies?
2) I read the book and loved the Trilogy, so myth busted. Dances with Smurfs indeed. It was good but didn’t live up to the hype. There have been plenty of other brilliant science fictions movies before and since. 5 points.
3) 15 points. Damn I found that hard to watch after a while, but to each their own. The Monsters were good but damn the contrived way the movie is…
I actually quite liked Ghost in the Shell, both medias.
4) 10 points. A lot of people say that about Suicide Squad. Well, he always cared for his daughter, not his famiy, in the comics. Even then he doesent care aobut the wife, and im pretty sure they are seperated/divorced in the movie and not married. His daughter is mentioned and his love for her, which is accurate, and not so much the wife who is implied to be with someone else AND a drug addict.
I never say the video with the editing mistakes but it sounds cringeworthy. They had a bad script and the wrong director imho. This is deadshot:
5) Can an affective movie universe outside of Marvels be done?
Infinity War turned that theory on its head, if you don’t mind me saying. They did simliar with Thor Ragnaork with him losing his hammer, Spiderman Homecoming with him losing the suit that Stark made for him, and to a degree in Infinity War with Banner not being able to Hulk out.
Also you should really play Mass Effect 2 with your Save Data from the original game loaded over, it wont disppaoint you, its an awesome game. The third not so much. But two is brilliant.
October 2, 2018 at 7:21 pm #1279224October 2, 2018 at 7:44 pm #1279234Last response from me for the evening I think, as intend to eat, get more hobby in and have a friend over. Maybe even some Mario Kart!
And please guys take photos of your work and post them up!

1) Did you see the movie ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’? And what did you think?
I kinda feel more or less the same way as you. 10 points.
2) What is an acclaimed movie or one a fanbase really enjoys but you hated? Also why
5 points, people suckk
3) What is a movie with ok to bad reception that you liked?
When did a live Action Bleach the Anime come out? Im curious now.I also liked the Dark Tower movie but never read the book. Try Bleach the Anime. 10 points.
4) Slightly different question, what movies disappointed you
5 points, never heard of it.
5) Can an affective movie universe outside of Marvels be done?
They should have could have would have tied it in with the TV stuff, I mean its always been established there is a DC Multiverse. Imagine the TV Barry Allen mentoring the Justice League one a bit and teaching him powers and warning him in advance about Reverse Flash. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
October 2, 2018 at 11:04 pm #1279344@mage : IMHO they were searching for bits and pieces to make one Solo movie.
I kind of doubt they could do another one.
And while there may be good stories about Solo in the (now obsolete) expanded universe. I think they should never have done a prequel for this character. It might have worked if they had used it to set the scene with Jabba before the first one, but then you still have that disconnect as no actor can ever match Ford.
I thought there was too much additional stuff that didn’t make any sense at all in the Hobbit trilogy. The forced romance between dwarf and elf. The Dragons’ potential reduced to a few short scenes after all the massive hype before he appears. The entire third movie used for a battle that barely makes a page in the book (because it’s not important to the story). The only ‘good’ extra was a bit of extra scene setting for the rise of Sauron.
Suicide Squad (major spoilers) editing critique :
As I said … the movie appears to have been a trainwreck before it got edited, but one has to wonder if something a little more coherent could have been made. It also turned the Joker into an angry boyfriend of Harlequin, which didn’t make any sense.
I might watch Thor:Ragnarok at some point. However like I said . I just don’t get the superhero genre as a concept.
I can’t get the fluffin’ pictures of my phone for some reason, so I’ll post a picture of my DAK another day. You can see a few of them in the intro to Bolt action demo that was made during bootcamp *grin*
Time to sleep now.
October 3, 2018 at 1:08 am #1279353Mage , your ruins and trees turned out great . Of the picture you posted of all 6 trees and 2 bases , I like top one with the darker base matching the trees , looks sort of like a fires come through and blackened everything with soot and ash . I think your Gundam needs some German kit or vehicle parts added to his armor , right now he look Germanic enough . Take a look at some of the Dust Mechs for ideas . Do you have German model tank parts to add to him ? Maybe a tube on his back similar to the German gas mask case , the Storm Troopers in Star Wars had it . Also , how tall is he in CMs ? Can you post a picture of him beside a standing 28mm , a normal dude , not a Space Marie , I, mean Marines .
