I was playing an ancients game last night and hopefully I’ll stick some photos up later but one of the guys on my side was from Canada and was an animator on the old Racoons and TMNT shows.. Thought it was interesting
July 28, 2018 at 11:45 am #1241172@biggabum meant to say I dig the BMG stuff, looking very nice (at some point I still need to paint up the Green Arrow & Deathstroke I brought YEARS ago…)
@torros now that’s an amusingly random bit of trivia. Did they spill any anecdotes or was it more just something that came up in conversation?
@tuffyears ah yes, the good old Severn. Nice shot there of the ship and tugs 🙂
@limburger all great sims. I lamented for most of the 2000’s not being able to play most of the classics (X-Wing, Wing Commander, Freespace) on modern machines without some hefty modding, at best. GOG putting them in their catalogue was a day of rejoicing, and with all their bonus materials! And yeah, Star Citizen is taking the mickey a bit now. Still looking forward to playing the single-player Squadron 22 campaign though.
On the subject of space combat sims, does anyone else find it incredible that we haven’t had a dedicated Star Wars space combat sim set in the Resistance-era of the current films? I mean full on X-Wing/TIE Fighter style….
July 28, 2018 at 12:05 pm #1241177@dawfydd No nothing really talked about it for a few minutes and that was that really
July 28, 2018 at 12:47 pm #1241186Wingcommander … now that was a game. I remember that there was one level that was both a lot of fun, but annoyingly difficult as my pc barely had the power to run it without dropping a few frames. This was when the 80286 (with Turbo ;)) was the fastest pc available.
It is incredible that we haven’t had any decent simulator for ages now.
Sure there’s a few (DCS World, IL2 Sturmovik is still a thing), but the classics are either dead or replaced with boring arcade 3rd person shooters that have nothing to do with actual air combat.A X-wing style game with modern graphics and ‘simulation’ quality controls (energy management for example) would be very cool. Although I doubt that’s going to happen and if it does it will be crap arcade instead of simulator style.

I love the Were croc. Id like the sound of the water one. I remember years ago seing an old Lizardman army in white dwarf, Skins converted swimming through water coming out of the bases. 10 points.
15 points for the Foxhole and the little write up on how they are done

Woo! Anthony Hopkins! I both understood and related to something! Thanks for the compliments on the Ogres. I might do some in Red also. Celtic themed Brettonian unit? Tell me more. Im doing some Gnoblars in a pale green and wanna do some orange also. Link isn’t working.
Thanks! I might do a dry gold paint drybrush over it to bring it up.
10 points for feedback to others.

I had that Optimus Prime back in the day too. Man, Takara went off the deepend with names like Super God Masterforce and Ginrai, didn’t they. Sweet action figure pics. 5 points
So assembly and no painting, but cold drinks? Awesomely therapueitc. 5 points. Lots of 40k reading to go through. You must love the game and setting

I like the odd break, as well as participating, but I don’t do this for gain. Its fun, when I am available.
No wonder Matty was concerned with those game mechanics. Sounds like a super interesting game, 10 pointss for the little write up.
5 points for feedback for others.
Best of luck with the penance.
@limburger Missed the Blood Moon myself. Too cloudy here. I did go on a late night poke hunt with my cousin. We found a cubone nest and caught a bunch.
@tuffyears (20 points)
Well played with the pun. 20 points. Post up your progress and characters J
@torros <5 points>

July 28, 2018 at 2:34 pm #1241204@dawfydd a dedicated fighter sim like you describe for SW would be amazing.

There! All caught up 🙂
July 28, 2018 at 9:16 pm #1241277I didst promise pics, didn’t I ?
The really big box (+/- 9 KG) … I think you can sort of read what’s in it …
Here it is open :
That’s the warchest, both expansions, the terrain, artbook, a collection of stories and a comic book.
There’s also an envelope which is not meant to be openened until instructed to do so.A letter and two unexpected extras as an apology for the delay :
- a copy of siege storm (the same they added to the lords of hellas pledge)
- a deck of cards with preview art of an upcoming game. The cards are a bit too dark to be readable. However it was free, so that’s always cool.
The mailman also had an unexpected extra package today :
I also have the Killteam box, my copy of Team Yankee & Free nations and Bolt action:Market Garden. 🙂
Time to start reading some books.July 28, 2018 at 10:14 pm #1241304July 28, 2018 at 10:56 pm #1241308@dawfydd the BMG mini’s are really nice, i’m tempted to buy some just to paint up, which is a first for me because i’m not really onto the painting side of the hobby.
@limburger nice box of goodies there sir!
@torros Epic 😀
Well after having a rather errrm off day that culminated in running around trying to find an out of Hours Vet for the Daughters doggy (and somehow costing me £150 I haven’t got), I managed to finally get into Bane. Nowhere near finished yet but here’s what I’ve done so far
July 28, 2018 at 10:58 pm #1241309July 28, 2018 at 11:23 pm #1241318July 29, 2018 at 8:50 am #1241409@biggabum great looking work on the BMG stuff. Can definitely see where the weak point on the Batgirl mini was. Stupid dynamic poses 😛 No haven’t seen Red or Red 2 – will add to my to-watch list. Nice work on the black and skin-tone on Bane.
@dawfydd thanks for the link. The camera overrides sound like they would sort one of the minor gripes I did have with the game. Ammo cooking – Ha! back to basics with that one 🙂
@limburger have friends who have dropped a tonne of cash into Star Citizen – it does sound like it will be amazing when it eventually does land. I remember hearing that Microsoft rolled out a game which was for all intents and purposes an upgraded version of Wing Commander Privateer a few years ago – can’t remember the name though… Shiny loot! I do like the look of that blacksmith kit, but can’t justify as I already have an alternative blacksmith. Have you seen the new windmill kit that 4Ground just released? I’ll have to concede I’m sorely tempted – would make fields and farms terrain look a lot more interesting…
@tuffyears fantastic view! I’m kind of weird but I like to watch enterprise happening – freighters, road trains buildings being built etc. What are you looking at for Kill Team? I can feel myself getting sucked into picking up the starter box… And 5th ed? What characters are you looking at?
@torros does sound interesting. I know next to nothing about the cartoon style of animation and how it works as an industry. The game looks like fun. What system were you using? Am really starting to come around to the idea of smaller scale minis – massed wargames do have such a sense of gravity that you can’t really reflect in 15-28mm.
@mage pic was a link of Obelix form the Asterix comics. I think a block of them would be an interesting and thematic add-on for a Bretonnian army. Never got as far as working on any of the gnoblars for my Ogres. I think I did field the trap gnoblars in one game, but otherwise I just stuck with a pure ogre force. Might need to look at AoS in a bit more detail. Is it a case of grab the starter box, download the warscrolls and away you go or do you still need to go and pick up the relevant faction/army books thereafter?
July 29, 2018 at 8:59 am #1241410My hobby for today has been tinkering away on my project for the terrain challenge. Will start work on a PLog soon but going to be doing a summoning portal. So some of this afternoon was spent painting cultists robes in everybody’s favourite colour to paint, white! Will do the rest of the robes in black and then work in an accent colour – I was thinking green but red might look more cult-like. Really not sure, have never joined a cult or tried to start my own cult either, so not really a subject matter expert…. Anyhow…
July 29, 2018 at 9:18 am #1241413@evilstu Were using a set called Art De L’guerre which is a French set of rules thankfully translated into English. They feel like a cross between DBM and Armati ( If that means anything to you) but they give a good enjoyable game even though we got our arse handed to us. The figures there are either Rapier or Baccus in 6mm
