Ok, posts ‘n stuff –
@a27cromwell like the striking colour scheme on the bomber. and nice work on organising! I need to take a weekend and sort out my mancave a little – the disorganisation in there is beginning to make me twitch a little…
@sundancer the SWL minis are coming along really nicely! I’m still waiting a more diverse product line before I think about jumping in, but your work isn’t helping me with holding off 🙂 Yes that turret would reduce me to making pew pew noises continually – games of X-wing round these parts are mainly accompanied by whooshing noises and laser blaster effects. It’s all based on actual physics – i read it in the laws of anime:
#3 – Law of Sonic Amplification, First Law of Anime Acoustics:
In space, loud sounds, like explosions, are even louder because there is no air to get in the way.
See?

@mage some of those Battle Monsters minis are adorably cute 🙂 don’t know that I’d play the game though. Still, as a fun painting project it does look good.
@horati0nosebl0wer Hanzel und Gretyl and Funker Vogt in the one post? And I can only upvote it once?… 🙂 Ok the Funker Vogt video wasn’t available to play on Oz so I had to go and play the MP3 from my hard drive but it still counts 🙂 Great write up re your 3rd ed barbarian too. are those halloween themed minis Reaper? I have trouble keeping up with their product range…
@torros happy birthday to your better half 🙂 Hope you do get a chance to progress the Greeks a little. and best of luck getting the game rescheduled.
Question time:
(1) Gaming traditions – well sort of. our local gaming convention, Cancon, is always held on the weekend of the Australia Day public holiday. While I haven’t participated in games for probably close to 15 years now I do try and get out most years – it’s a good opportunity to stock up on hobby consumables for the next 12 months if nothing else… Beyond that we do usually try and get a game of something in over the christmas/new year break, and painting minis in front of the TV watching a game of test cricket is something of a ritual…
(2) What have been some of your favourite moments in tabletop gaming regarding released products? Probably the release of 6th ed warhammer Fantasy. It was just such a step up from 5th ed rules-wise. It was no longer just HeroHammer – you were rewarded for actually bringing units along to the battle. Plus the starter box had two complete armies (well Ok it was 2 units and a command squad for each side, plus a cannon for the Empire and a chariot for the Orcs) and a Mordheim building included as well, which saw service on my tabletops continually until about 2 years ago when I finally upgraded to some 4ground buildings. All in all a great product. And as an added bonus it was released in Australia 2 weeks before the rest of the world (due to the olympic games being on in Sydney) so we weren’t last for once! 🙂
(3) What have been some of your favorite story moments in tabletop gaming? Had one hilarious moment a year ago where we were playing Frostgrave and one of my opponents thief henchmen (weakest fighter in the game) went after and intercepted one of my thieves who was trying to make off with a treasure chest. I piled in another 3 models (so 4 of my models out of a warband of 10) only to have this single thief kill every one of them due to a run of extremely good luck. in true tabletop gamer fashion the mini was promptly given a name and an upgraded paint job followed.
October 28, 2018 at 10:20 am #1293780Progress this weekend was getting some of my LRDG project up to tabletop – I posted photos in the Orktober thread then noticed in the pictures that I had missed painting the teeth so went back and did that then gave the whole lot a protective amtt coat. Will take some better photos once that lot settles.
Also assembled and primed 2 dozen Fireforge foot sergeants who will act as Bretonnian infantry.
In other news I finally got round to getting a natural daylight lamp (much cheaper than when I first looked at them a few years ago) so will have the option of getting a little bit of painting in on weeknights if I have time. Hoping to progress my british Dragoons for Sharp Practice, will see how that pans out.
October 28, 2018 at 10:56 am #1293854Hey ho,
Hello everybody. It is Sunday night here again, and after a busy family day I’m back in my hobby space.
Thanks @evilstu for last week, cheers to @mage for this week!
I see you are changing it up like MarioKart 8 DLC! Coins every other race, except that one track that rupees, and the other one that has… different coins.
My pledge for the week will be to finish the Dungeon Saga Orcs. I need some anti-shine Matt varnish to properly finish them. Other than that, just time and motivation.
@sundancer SW:L looking great, again!
@torros happy birthday to your wife! The art in the Battle Ravens game looks great, pity you didn’t get a chance to play.
@horati0nosebl0wer nice work on the creeps and their dinner table. What’s the source?
@a27cromwell excellent orky fighter! Was the Model Air paint a bit thinner than expected?
Lots of tanks!
Some slightly different music than the others perhaps?
October 28, 2018 at 12:51 pm #1293896Progress on the Wolves:
Agrax wash on the textured fur of the pale ones:
Badab Black wash on the darker ones:
And added some Stirland Battlemire to the bases of some clearly loyal Angels that have not at all Fallen….:
October 28, 2018 at 3:34 pm #1294019October 28, 2018 at 6:57 pm #1294181@a27cromwell Will you get to some weathering on the fighta/bomma/zoomy-dakka-spittin-deff-tingy? I wondered if the model air line differed from the game air in any way other than color vibrancy. Game color has a smaller palette selection as well from what I see after getting the game air set.
@evilstu Alas I put people in such painful positions to make decisons… I might well fit in with the Dark Eldar if it weren’t for the fact I’d likely be on the receiving end of their delicate efforts to kill me with kindess.
Good ro see more orky tech out there with the. I’m tempted to get a hold of Speed Freeks after building a giant shopping cart (as featured by the guys from Jackass) and outfitting it with a few Boyz or, in GorkaMorka style (not Gangnam), with plenty of dakka and grots. Then again there is the back burner plan to send a Christmas Fett to @sundancer. Heh heh heh.Aside from that the figures are mixed. The altar and largest ghoul are from the Bones line. The wolves are metal from a line I have no idea about and the last two ghouls are from Wizkids licensed D&D line.
Regarding the light, it makes such a difference when you look at things you’re painting using the daylight. I have a desktop Ottlight and a standup lamp, with a day bulb, to do indirect lighting and the photos I’m taking now show how much of a difference it has. The next thing to pick up is a small tripod to get stable HD photos.
Now about that Ironman Challenge… I don’t think I have that many minis in my collection to assembly line paint! Sounds like another run of what one guy did with painting 300 Spartans when 300 came out in theaters. No… that is not an endorsement for your next project.
@rayzryr the good music just keeps on coming
@dawfydd Woohoo.. or Awoooohooo! More wolves. They should come out quite nicely as they’ve got all their parts in place.
October 28, 2018 at 7:53 pm #1294214Was trying to work out what to use for the next wash stage and found an pot of GW’s old Brown Wash, which seemed like a good next step:
not quite sure about the results. Perhaps should have thinned it a bit for a first wash to get a better gradient….
October 28, 2018 at 9:28 pm #1294271@dawfydd I still use the flesh wash and yes, thinning makes them much better
@evilstu & @horati0nosebl0wer stop it with that Fett Santa… you’re giving me nightmares! XD
Progress made today: more (and more) details on the 1.4 (sadly they don’t pick up on camera) and base colours on the crew.
October 28, 2018 at 10:41 pm #1294300Well I left the wolves to dry and decided to burn through my Knights. Barring transfers for House Mortan, and dumping a couple of pots of Stirland Battlemire on the bases, I think they’ve come out quite well.
If expanding up to a full army of them I quite fancy sticking to the close-combat, monster-slaying theme of House Mortan, going with a Gallant, a Preceptor with some Armiger Warglaives and maybe a Valiant…..
October 29, 2018 at 2:36 am #1294341Bring nightmares to everyone? Okie doke.. can do
October 29, 2018 at 5:43 am #1294354October 29, 2018 at 10:38 am #1294391@evilstu (55 rupees)
They are a… tribute… to Pokemon. Im interested.
10 rupees for posting feedback and conversation.
1 – 10 rupees
2 – 15 points. I strongly agree with you on that one. I played a little 5th and found it broken compared to 3rd ed 40k which I had played for a while. 6th was where Warhammer became Warhammer, for me.
3 – 15 points, excellent! Nothing more dangerous than a rat backed into a corner. Haha! That one made me smile.Did you paint all those ork vehicles from the undercoat up to that during the space of the thread?
5 points for the priming. Hope the lamp goes good for you.
Orcs are looking good. Can I get some close ups with them? What did you get done on them this weekend?
@dawfydd (40 rupees)
40 rupees for hobby so far
Defo should have thinned it and tested it on a mini. Hindsight is always 20/20 though.
@horati0nosebl0wer (15 rupees)
Spartans you say…
15 rupees for contrirbuting to the thread, conversation and giving feedback. This is what the thread is all about.
@sundancer (15 rupees)
5 points for convo. 10 points for hobby progress
Ill have to get back to you all on the music with points. Keep those paintbrushes wet guys. Im off to tear into my hobby, just a quick breakfast. Aiming for an 11:15 start time.
