More red… and filling huge gaps… I wish I had dry fitted them better the first time… these are the worst of all Star Wars Legions minis to date.  I hope the filler won’t be to obvious on the table. Still need to do some touch ups, the base, varnish and some highlighting.

@sundancer keep at it – appreciate that they may not be the easiest models to work with but they are really coming along nicely 🙂

@mage is the probe droid from IA or did I miss a Legion update?

@horati0nosebl0wer thanks for the advice and links. Yeah running without a wet palette over summer would not take me to my happy place. Haven’t tried the washing up liquid thing – would the colouring in the product tint the paints slightly? I have some airbrush thinner that I use to get washes more ‘flowy’ – I should probably give that a go, thanks for the prompt 🙂

Finally got these guys to a point where I’m calling them tabletop ready. Looking forward to switching focus to speedpainting big blocks of Empire infantry (I’m weird like that…).

@evilstu thank you and I guess it’s the IA droid. Legion will be getting droids but only a 2-1B medical droid, a R5, a R4 and a FX-9 medical droid. But those drones would make a could unit.

@jodain The muffin Mafia was definitely a sight to witness and chuckle at. Its about as bad as the comic from long long ago ‘Milk and Cheese’ with their byline ‘What happens when dairy goes bad’. I look forward to see what you come up with in the terrain department as we’ve been able to follow along with @mage.

@dawfydd I think it might be interesting to see what you come up with if you ever put your army on display. You’ve got plenty of troops to showcase and we’ve seen quite a bit of other stuff come across the threads. Why not kick it up a notch and show it all off?

I really wasn’t aware of much of the backstory/fluff for the Star Trek vessel but it was interesting to take a peek at.

@sundancer Good to see that your efforts are paying off. The red has come out quite nicely and the figures look alright. The only thing that popped out to me was the alignment of the one staff that you got replaced being slightly crooked. The figures came out fine by me in the sculpting. I know I’ll get the mention of this later but I’ll get it out of the way here.

*eyeing a certain somebody and chuckling to himself*

Hit it with a little more highlight on those hard edges. A dash of orange to your red pushes it into the crimson area (yes, they are Crimson Guard already) toward orange that reads brighter.

@evilstu The flow aid with dishwashing detergent is literally all you’re paying for if you go to an art store. If you went out  opened up the flow aid bottle and smelled the contents it’d be the biggest surprise as I found out myself after buying a bottle and getting home wondering about the product. Its the same with styrene cement. You can just take a bottle of nail polish remover and use it to bond your scratch built plastics. It probably works on regular GW or Malifaux type mass produced plastics. I know that it definitely does the trick with Reaper Bones. I think that the stuff for the airbrush flow aid is a few different things with the addition of glycerin (why it smells sweet).

Here’s a good channel to get some nitty gritty hobby hacks.

    Ok, let’s get going…

My hobby pledge this week is to work on Dark Angels. Two squads of Tactical Marines from the Betrayal at Calth Box.

Hobby time tonight though was primarily posting about CanCon. My only stable device is my phone, and posting/editing forum topics from an iPhone isn’t fun. I really need to buy a new PC, but I really want to buy a house more, and every dollar is going to count.

    Anyway! Off track there…

    The questions eh?

    My Kryptonite?

What?? Why would I tell? Then someone will know and use it against me! Hahaha! I’ll not fall for that trap!

Shiny does not hold the sway over me it once did, that’s for sure. Years of hobby deprivation, and the last couple of years of financial deprivation (thankfully now mostly behind me), have taught me to only buy what I “need” or really will use.

    Disliked Faction?

The Redemptionists in old school Necromunda, and to a lesser extent House Cawdor.

The old minis were one thing, but they were of their time. Their penchant for burning things was understandable, and in Necromunda fairly effective. But the whole idea behind them: religious fanatics, zealots.    To late-teen Me, anything associated with strong religious belief was pretty uncool.

I get (especially now) that the 40k universe is supposed to be over-the-top. The Redemptionists are a product of their universe and the Empire they are a part of. But they over do it. It wasn’t enough to be a non-mutant faithful human, Non-Redemptionists are as bad as Traitors, Xenos and Witches. It is unproductive to go about burning otherwise dutiful Imperial citizens.

They weren’t even recognised as an official sect of the Imperial Faith, the official policy was to try and stamp them out. They were religious fanatics that were only one step away from another kind of religious fanaticism in 40k, Chaos.

    Weaponise Muffin?!?

They’re already a weapon! Those things carry more fat and sugar than should be legally allowed! Tasty tasty muffins, they kill you sloooooowly. Chocolate muffins, banana, what ever flavour. Those ones with cream cheese on top, or savoury muffins with cheese and bacon all through them!!

And once you let yourself have one, tomorrow you’ll have another, and then another the next day! Then you’ll be buying four packs and six packs, and you’ll go to the supermarket and get the cheaper ones so you can afford more, even though you can taste the cheaper quality, you’re ok because you’ve got more muffin!!!

Gaahh!! Now I want a muffin, and I’ve not had one for years ?

Dammit. You may have found out my kryptonite.

    Replies too!

@sundancer As a father with a daughter myself, I understand.

Aarrgh! Attack of the Killer Muffins! …or donuts

Aw that’s an awesome display case for Fett.

The reds are looking very good in the photos, I reckon. But red is notorious as being difficult.

Large gaps are disappointing. Especially on something that should be a high quality branded product with reputable names behind it.

@dawfydd good work on the Wolves. Are they any particular Great Company? Wasn’t it the 13th that came back wearing a mix of armour they’d sacked from traitors as well as remnants of their original armour? Ah, I see your later reply, and there’s the answer ?

Renegade Space Marines do have a certain appeal.

Regarding the Red Corsairs… pretty much every major chapter has lost members to them. Wasn’t one of their best Berserkers was a former Ultramarine? I wouldn’t be surprised if there are Fallen among them too.

@biggabum ooh! What are those guys? They look kinda undeady, ghosty things. Ah PP Warmachine things. Sweet.

@evilstu waiting for the temperature to settle, you should be able to sit down and do some hobby by about… March or April, lol.

    That’s many, many decals!

Did you ever see the silly White Dwarf article published many years ago? Pretty much what you asked for. Basically one tactical squad was a whole army. They produce when the first Dawn of War game was released.

It was a long day for her, she’s not used to walking around all day, and the heat was getting to us. There were a few quiet spots around the place where we stopped and relaxed. The Parents Room was almost always empty, was well air conditioned and was insulated from all the noise. We ended up there a couple of times.

I’m pretty sure I’ll visit CanCon again in the future, I may just take you up on that offer ?

Yep, I can see them doing well, standing out amongst the crowd so to speak…

    Knights are looking great, sir!

@horati0nosebl0wer and @evilstu I have in the past added dishwasher liquid to my rinse water, which then of course I use to dilute paints on the palette. I also use a home made wet palette. But when the heat is so high and I’ve either got the AC on or a window open and a fan running, I still can literally see the paint drying on the wet palette in front of me.

To be balanced: of late I have not been putting dishwashing liquid in to the water, too lazy… the kitchen is upstairs and I paint downstairs ?

@mage favourite Mario kart 8 character; vehicle; track? ?

    That’s a cool vinyl figure.

Good, straightforward work on the droid too!

Now goodnight! I’ve spent all evening typing on my phone! Tomorrow, back to the hobby desk I hope.

@rayzryr LOL! I had to share this as I knew of the films existence through a trailer featured on one of my old copies of Troma’s “Sgt Kabukiman NYPD”. Apparently Killer Condom is so bad it flies under the radar of YouTube so here’s the whole film.

@horati0nosebl0wer funnily enough I have a plan for trying to get everything out on one table to see what I have. Should be some time in the next few weeks (space permitting…)

@rayzryr The force I’m painting at the moment are Ragnar Blackmanes Great Company, so the “vanilla” option. back when the 3rd Edition Codex came out I was going with Erik Morkai’s Great Company, and even had a couple of conversions of him with a heavy bionic element as I figured it would fit with Morkai being the guardian of the gate between the realms of the living & the dead to have a Wolf Lord with a foot in each world….

Also, glad to hear CanCon was a hit with your daughter, and from the sounds of it the organizers were exceptionally well prepared for visitors of all-ages. kinda make me wish I lived in the southern hemisphere now….

@horati0nosebl0wer The killer condom is  actually based on a German comic by Ralf König. He does a lot of gay comics and they are hilarious. Another movie also based on his comics is “Der bewegte  Mann”. I don’t know if that one is dubbed or subbed but you should give it a try 😉

I’m off to bed after work but here are some questions

    (1) what is your kryptonite. Discuss

Any oily deep fried food. I have to be very careful or it makes me very poorly indeed. More than that steroidal medicines and aspirin. Rather than help They could literally kill me.

    (2) name a faction from a game you dislike and why but also make a balanced argument

Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus from w30k. I really struggle to get their concept. Usually when I read any space marine fiction I want to make an army of them. Can’t help myself. Only exception? Sons of Horus. I just don’t care.

    (3) how would you weaponise a muffin? The crazier, sci-fi / magic inspired the better. This is creative and zany

Have any of you ever read Zenith? Keyword implantation, think of it like Inception, and when you hear the word your mental functions will shut down. Only eating one will revive you except you can’t ask for one as the cycle would continue…

How many of you tried it? How many of you tried it but can’t now answer?

@horati0nosebl0wer a few more highlights you say? Interesting suggestion. @sundancer the only way I think is to make sure the different materials look different. Which from looking at them you’ve done a good job of so far. Very nice models.

@dawfydd don’t ever change. Space Wolves are one of those armies that really lend themselves to kit bashing. Thanks for your history with them. I totally didn’t pop to the Smyth’s website to have a peek at transformers.

@horati0nosebl0wer and anybody else reading that is US based – I just saw the news re the polar vortex, stay safe everyone!

    #1340564

Polar vortex? Its been **** cold for a while now. It was -12C for everybody out there when I got into work. I was bundled up for work and working indoors. Looking at the reality of the job market in the future that might change as I’m looking at changing careers to do welding. Skilled labor pays well and I can grow my beard again so the cold shouldn’t be an issue. Above and beyond that my vanity will be appeased. The temperature will be a factor for sure for everything else.

@horati0nosebl0wer News article I saw said it was as low 32 -degrees (celsius) over in North Dakota, with a windchill equivalent of -52 in Minnesota. I figured there would be at least some flow-on impact out your way.

Welding sounds cool, and the skills would have direct applicability to hobby, so double win 🙂
