Any chance of the close-ups on the banes, look solid and want a better look! More points might be involved.
5 rings for feedback to others.
1) There is nobody who cares enough about me to ban me from shiny. I do not know if that is good or bad. A gift from whom? 10 points.
2) Well that will do if you wanna wax lyrical about it. It all works whatever it is
3) 5 points for the word play.
@evilstu (40 rings)

(1) what is your kryptonite. Discuss
I don’t really have any krp… shiny look shiny, whoops more plastic arrived. Like any gamer a nice bit of shiny stuff, or one of my friends saying let’s buy into this new game and so I have more figures and not enough time to paint them all. Must learn control on this.
(2) name a faction from a game you dislike and why but also make a balanced argument
For me this has to be the Convergence of Cyriss for Warmachine – they feel far too technologically advanced for the rest of the mainly steam powered world. The steam warjacks attracted me to Warmachine many many moons ago and I have owned armies for virtually all the factions at one point of other, but Cyriss just don’t feel right.
(3) how would you weaponise a muffin? The crazier, sci-fi / magic inspired the better. This is creative and zany
Toast it a very long time – that’s assuming you mean English Muffin and not the cake version. Try this one:
Hobby time – I haven’t yet got round to basing or painting anything, although I spent a while looking for where I’d put my basing mix for Legion so that is now ready. I have managed to sit down and assemble the bits of terrain from Warhammer 40K Conquest that I have purchased. Three sprues completed, only one photographed:
January 27, 2019 at 4:57 pm #1338429@mage the dice container came with boba from @horati0nosebl0wer as a gift. I just “snowified” the container to make it “one” with the base from horatio.
January 27, 2019 at 5:29 pm #1338454@mage which Transformer if you don’t mind my asking? I recently picked up three Weaponizers and Cog from Wave 1 of the War for Cybertron: Siege range and was blown away. I’m definitely in for their take on Ironhide, and should have Terrorcon Blot from Power of the Primes arriving soon, which’ll let me finish off Abominus. Amazingly that just leaves the Seacons missing from the reimagined combiners HasTak have put out. We’ve had Lio-Kaiser so SURELY they have to have them on the docket somewhere?
And funny story about those Grey Hunters – originally when 3rd Edition 40k dropped I was building a White Scars army and eventually wanted to do a Veteran Squad for them. now I wanted to lean into the more savage, mongol-inspired nature of the sons of Chogris, so decided to mix & match parts from the Tactical Squad and Khorne Berzerker kits, with a power fist from the Space Wolf upgrade sprue (handily one of the chain-axes from the Berzerkers provided the Sergeant’s top-knot). That project kinda died as I REALLY got sick of painting white, so the squad lingered for a bit until the Eye of Terror campaign book introduced the 13th Company list and the idea of Grey Slayers & Storm Claws who scavenged armour from the fallen legions to maintain their wargear, so dug up a few more parts, even some Middenheimer sprues from Mordheim for wolf-head icons that fitted perfectly where chaos sigils were. Sadly that was as far as I got with the 13th, but when I started looking to resurrect all my old Space Wolf bits for 8th edition I though this squad would be a fun addition. I was already planning a few smaller Grey Hunter packs so these guys saved me a bit of work, I just needed to swap out some weapons.
In terms of lore, well the Space Wolves are individualistic and leary of authority almost to the point of parody, but they have form for anything from lone marines up to entire Great Companies going AWOL, sometimes forever (and bearing in mind some Great Companies are comparable in size to under-strength Chapters, with the attendant materiel), so i liked the idea that this was a Pack that had bucked authority and left before they were exiled, and in the years (centuries?) since have plied the fringes of The Imperium, fighting as mercenaries on Rogue Trader or Mechanicus expeditions, occasionally dipping into acts of petty piracy to enable them to fight the enemies of mankind a bit longer (there is something fascinating about the idea of Renegade Space Marines – those who have not fallen to Chaos and hold true to their oaths whilst being pariah to The Imperium at large). But following the return of the Wulfen, and Magnus’s vengeance upon the Fenrisian star system I figured the Space Wolves would be willing to welcome back their Exiles to bolster the depleted ranks of the Great Companies and present a united front to the galaxy at large whilst they rebuilt what The Thousand Sons had tried to break…..

(1) Shiny holics annonymous. 5 rings. Just realised we are a support group thread, aren’t we? And not a support group for computer programming.
(2) I feel the same way about them. The idea of the faction is fine but the power source and roboty nature as opposed to being steam powered pieces of engineering… pass. It was the beginning of the end of me for warmachine. The official point where Privateer Press jumped the shark with their flagship game. 20 points. Im the same. I own a bunch of armies too but not them.
(3) I meant like a confectionery muffin but its all good. 5 points.
5 points for the pledge.
@sundancer (10 rings)
10 rings all the same! Nice!
@dawfydd (35 rings)
It is Onalsught from Combiner Wars 😉 Thanks for asking. 5 points for a fellow TF plan. I mean rings…
Im way behind on my TF lore and you named a lot of stuff there, some of which went over my head, but I am totally on board to learn, hear, and look at links to shoot the breeze with 8)
That was a lot of dense information on them. I guess you coulda always done them as Rampagers, red white scars lol. You still like White Scars from a background perspective? Then watch this movie if you can stream it somewhere:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_(film)
I think some Space Wolves threw in their lot with the Red Corsairs. If you like the idea of renegade marines you should check out the Badab War books from Forge World. Mine are a few editions out of date but an amazing read. Probably one of the best products I have ever bought, owned or that GW have ever released, imho. But yeah, Id imagine wolves doing as you describe, and most definitely coming back into the fold for something that big in the background and especially taking it to the Thousand Sons.
Also, their current independence and defiance is a sharp contrast to their ways during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy where they were, to be fair, the Emperor’s Yes-men
30 rings for the thoughts and write up.
January 27, 2019 at 7:58 pm #1338469@mage , yeah, there was a great bit of flavour text from one of the old Index Astartes articles on the Red Corsaairs that described a pack of Space Wolves stealing the destroyer they were aboard and using that as their buy-in with Huron Blackheart 🙂
Will see if I can dig out someTF links. What was the last wave/series you got up to?
January 27, 2019 at 9:59 pm #1338560The Emperors Royal Guard…. the red is killing me XD
Started tonight with this:
Ended with this
will add more layers tomorrow. Now it’s 11pm. Bedtime!
January 27, 2019 at 11:00 pm #1338597One last gasp of hobby before hitting the sack, and because it’s a day ending in “Y” shock of shocks it’s Space Wolves!!
Ok, so sarcasm off I was looking at the last Grey Hunter pack I built and wasn’t really feeling the powerfist on the Pack Leader, especially as two of my other GH packs have powerfists. I was debating the poweraxe but then realised another two of my GH packs had those, but none so far had a powersword, so dug around in the bits box, did a quick arm swap and I like the feel of this a lot more than with the fist (before & after shots below).This did mean though that I had a powerfist lying spare with a Blackmanes shoulderpad stuck to it (trus me, that thing was not coming off…), so figured why not build one more Wolf Guard? another rummage led to what I’m currently calling “Sgt Pimphand”, mainly because Sisko is not a particularly Fenrisian name…..
(look, just watch this video and all will be explained)
Oh, and had a random though – Genestealer Cults are up for pre-order next weekend. I have 4 sets of Cultist upgrade sprues that came with a job lot of other bits, and best part of 50 un-assembled plastic Cadians, plus heavy weapon teams. dare I add yet another force to my growing list,this time dedicated to the Many-Armed God?
January 28, 2019 at 12:12 am #1338641@dawfydd I thought they were fighting off the Red Corsairs invading them and gave up the ship and surrendered and joined their ranks?
Would Sysco make it seem more Fenrisian?
Go for the many armed god but finish your Wolves first 😉
As for Transformers I am not onto or up to anything. Haven’t bought any proper in years and years so way behind.
@sundancer (15 rings)
Royal Guard are looking great.
January 28, 2019 at 12:13 am #1338642And I am turning in. A friend called over and we played Mario Kart 8. I did however finish painting the remaining minis from GKR (four kinda generic mini mechs). Pics to follow tomorrow. Tomorrow I will begin work on the missing mini I have from Imperial Assault.
January 28, 2019 at 8:10 am #1338887Got some more hobby progress done today. for the Middenheim project I assembled another 8 swordsmen to take my unit up to 25 (I like WHFB with lots of big blocks of core infantry – not so much a fan of the gribbly monsters…) and got them primed. then touched up the priming on a bunch of other stuff where I had missed spots. Started putting the base colours down on a couple of units. Got the Brett cavalry i’m doing up for my friend dip varnished. Also got some scenery bits primed – I’m keen to make up some small vignettes for marketplaces etc that I can just drop in to tabletops to make the place look live in, rather than having to individually set up a bunch of crates, sacks and barrels every time I want to do up a town themed tabletop. So that will be another slow burn side project…
Questions:
(1) what is your kryptonite. Discuss – Erm… Lack of sleep? The absence of coffee? Oh, I know! The music they play in supermarkets and shopping malls that is supposed to relax you and make you want to spend more but just makes me want to run away in terror and not buy products 🙂
(2) name a faction from a game you dislike and why but also make a balanced argument. Space marines. There is a serious disconnect between the lore and their tabletop fighting stats. Either their in game stats need to be upgraded so that the basic marines have terminator equivalent stats and better shooting damage output, or the lore needs a rework to admit that a chapter needs well over 1000 marines or it would get trounced into oblivion by the first sizeable ork mob that happened across them…
(3) how would you weaponise a muffin? The crazier, sci-fi / magic inspired the better. This is creative and zany – Oh I already know the answer to that one, sounds like conversation some friends of mine and I had about 11 years ago… Electroplate the muffin and fire it from a rail gun. Job done 🙂 (The original discussion involved a frozen chicken, just in case anyone was curious…).
@sundancer good to see boba is safely encased 🙂 Oh wow – so much red…
@dawfydd nice progress on the wolves. And more hobby projects is a good thing, right?… Or were you looking for support to stay focused on current projects? Sorry, I guess I’m more of an enabler than the voice of reason on hobby stuff… 🙂
@horati0nosebl0wer heh, love Neuroticfish 🙂 Still haven’t checked out the album from last year (I anm so far behind…). good to hear you have a plan for the scrap tank 🙂
@biggabum well if we have to do Christmas again at least it is at the end of the year I guess… Bane warriors look really good. Congrats.
@rayzryr glad you guys survived the heat – must have been a long day for your little one. If you end up going in future years let me know a little ways out – I should hopefully be able to tee up a lift for you as a minimum 🙂 I think my plague striders will probably end up being rank filler in a unit of goblins somewhere towards the back, just for comic value (I’m a fan of comic goblins…).
@woldenspoons nice progress on TWD
@mage must get a strat made on the Orville. I hear good things. Double header was a reference to you hosting 2 weeks in a row 🙂 Wasn’t really keen on working in those colours for the Knights but that’s the direction I was given by my friend so I want ahead as it’s his unit. now that they are finished though I think the uniform colour scheme in the unit really does work. Now just need to sort a lord with the same heraldry and an accompanying peasant levy…
@wazarov that’s pure gold! Well played! And thanks for sharing 🙂
@jodain is the Conquest 40k terrain going to be repurposed for Legion or are you planning on running it in 40k games. I suppose you could use for both of course…
January 28, 2019 at 8:18 am #1338892@mage whelp, if you wanted afresh slate to start picking up TF’s again then this a good spot – the Prime Wars Trilogy (Combiner Wars, Titans Return & Power of the Primes) ended midway through last year, and HasTak are now in the midst of the first phase of the new War for Cybertron, Siege. The deal here is reimagining the classics characters as they would have been on Cybertron before arriving on Earth, so robot modes are incredibly posable & articulated takes on their iconic looks, with alt-modes that are just the right side of unearthly. The main teritary gimmick is what they are calling Weaponizers – effectively the Targetmaster gimmick with these smaller dudes coming with weapon effects like energy blasts for guns and slashes for swords that can be attached to other characters kit, and the Deluxe-class Cog is an update of Fortress Maximus’s G1 drone that can become a staggering amount of firepower (And in a later wave Metroplex’s sidekick Six-Gun is getting the same treatment…). They also are supersising the idea on the Leader-class figs with a new Ultra Magnus going back to the classic white robot wearing his trailer trope whilst Shockwave looks like being the best CHUG version of the character, with a serving of crazy gun arms – oh, and Micromasters are back. Happily lots of figs at pleasing price points, and Smyths is already showing them so distribution loks to be better this time around….
Oh, and it looks like the early 00’s Unicron Trilogy is getting some love as repaints/re-moulds with the Cybertron version of Optimus getting a version that looks incredibly promising…
January 28, 2019 at 10:58 am #1339023Urgh… doing stuff and now I see how late it is. A quick blast of info on hobby things before shower and sleep.
@mage The current box of Acolytes holds three. Yes, I am sadly hit by the Shiny Syndrome again as I think about putting together a Ten Thunders Brewmaster crew with the starter box, some Monks of Fermented River and Tanuki. The boozy theme is strong in that. It honestly holds the same zany appeal as some of the goblins. I’ll never give up on the Ramos crew of my Arcanists though. I’m M&SU through and through.
@evilstu When you add water to your paints to thin them add a drop of liquid dish soap as well in order to cut the surface tension. A wet palette will also give you some more longevity to your paints beyond that. Here’s the general looks at making your own and the Masterson Sta-Wet palette.
Here’s a look at another palette done by Vince Venturella
