Thanks for the compliments @evilstu . Especially on the OSL, as I was really hurried when I painted it, so feared it would turn out bad. But it went ok. When you get really close it looks a bit crappy from a “normal” view it does the job. Wanted to post an entire step by step on the OSL but time was running out. But I’m finishing a Terminator Scriptor in the next days. I can take step by step photos of the OSL on him if you’re interested.

Doing ‘A Bothi’ sounds great 😀

Sure @mage , here you go:

    https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1211507/

Only 2 builds on there so far but got a few more I want to work on in the build pile, as well as revisiting some to tidy’em up, do some panel lining and maybe some decals 🙂 Either way hope you and your lad have fun building your kits and that these offer some inspiration. What grade are guys thinking of going in for?

I’m mainly going for theme to be fair – this list has been inspired by the first short story that introduced Ragnar and the Wolves as we now know them back in the pages of White Dwarf (and was in the back of the 2nd Ed Codex). I’ve got some other additions lined up – the Contemptor will get a drop pod once Forge World release their update of the old kit, and the Deathstorm pods are tempting as well 😉

As a rule it seems most Great Companies are about twice the size of a Battle Company in a Codex Chapter, but both Logan Grimnar and Ragnar Blackmanes are larger by some way. So by that logic the Space Wolves would seem to clock in at around 3000 raging space Vikings, even taking into account the events of Warzone: Fenris, and you’d imagine that the influx of Primaris marines would push them over this figure.

Sadly the one thing this Codex really lacks is any mention of the Wolfspear or any other potential Space Wolf Successors other than the long lamented Wolf Brothers. A shame as whilst the Wolf Lords and their Great Companies offer plenty of opportunity for variety it’s still reliant on digging powder blue/grey.

@woldenspoons I’ve been thinking about it. The question I keeps asking is do I go with a single project for my Imperial Crusade army and all it’s myriad components? Or focus in on each element as it’s own project before showing the whole lot together? Also finding time to write is a factor 😛

@dawfydd I can understand that. Hence I’m avoiding one. I’m like @mage though and have so many projects on the go I may never finish any. (Although my death Guard are getting closer).

I ‘accidentally’ ended up looking at the BMG stuff yesterday. For those of you who play how on earth did they squeeze the Amazon’s in there?

After some very nasty initial challenges, finally making some decent headway on my 28mm LRDG force.  Also expanded the infantry component to 16 figures instead of 8.  😀

Still have more to go on this one.

I shall post a proper reply tomorrow. I feel compelled to update these threads regularly regardless of having or being able to make a meaningful contribution. I suppose its a pre-bed ritual at this stage. The highlights:

My son (4) expressed interest in an old basic d&d board game. His attention span wavered though. I might do an article/thread about it.

    D&D went well. Write-up tomorrow.

My 24 hour/weekend/week/break/mid-week challenge inspired by @bothi will start at some point tomorrow. I might do daily mini challenges to put the finishing touches on a bunch of stuff 90% complted like Dreadball teams, Batman crews and battalions/formations for AoS/40k. I may do Necromunda for one day as well and see how far I get. My friend Mike is also calling down Friday for painting Star Wars Legion. When he is down that will be the challenge that day.

What else? Console Game night Friday (and takeout). Sega and N64 will be the focus.

Firebelly is 100% complete, as are the four armies for Battle for the Temple of Skulls.

I may pick up some Zandri Dust spray to redo my terrain with, at least in part.

Also some Batman and Arcworlde will happen at some point…

    Good night, all.

@sundancer great project log! I will have to confess that I’m a complete sucker for anything that is handmade out of wood – it just seems proper 🙂 And nice that you made one for your daughter too 🙂 40 points

@bothi well the OSL looked great to me – had that feeling of overloading the plasma 🙂 Step by step OSL photos would be great if you don’t mind taking the effort and sharing the technique.  10 points

@dawfydd project looks cool – reminds me that I have  MAC II that has been halfway built for three years now… <_< I do really like that the Space Wolves just do their own thing with regard to adherence to the Codex – makes me smile 🙂 30 points for feedback and responses.

@woldenspoons I was going to say that just stick with it and you will get some projects finished but then I realised that none of my projects have ever been finished – they just get bigger instead… Any in progress photos of your Death Guard? 10 points

@oriskany glad to hear that perseverance is turning the tide 🙂 they look like they are coming along nicely now. 30 points for hobby progress.

@mage have you ever seen a lego board game called ‘Heroica’? It was released maybe 7 or 8 years ago – if you can track down a version it might be more the right tempo for indoctrinating introducing your son to dungeon crawlers.  Sounds like a busy block of time ahead hobby-wise. Please keep ups up to date on the project 🙂 Congrats on getting the firebelly and four armies finished. 30 points for hobby progress.

Just a head’s up all that I will be calling this thread closed tomorrow night my time (ie 24 hours from when you see this post timestamped). Feel free to keep posting thereafter but I’ll be doing a revision and tally and award allocation after that point. Anyone keen to host next weekend?

@evilstu No, I have not, but I shall check it out. Ive regined my hobby block for today at least. More shortly…

Ill keep posting away. Not sure I am in the right headspace to run next weekender. My son has my head fried and I could do with having very, very little on my plate, haha.

    How is everyone doing?

    @dawfydd

I shall check it momentarily. He was playing with some and the action figures too, but not building yet. He broke one though… Its ok though it was old. I have a bunch from a few years ago on holiday and honestly, I do not know the terminology for it. I’d recommend you check out Mecha Gaikotsu’s youtube channel though.

Im liking the sound the direction of your army is going in. Theme is cool and in this day and age of polarised gamers: casual vs tournament-heads, well, there isnt enough theme.

Plus you gotta factor in, for a chapter and strength, being out on campaign, time anomalies, and fudging the numbers to keep the Inquisition away, as well as recruits in training.

Theres nothing about Primaris successor chapters in the new Codex, whatsoever?

    @woldenspoons

I resent, that, I finish projects! Lol. Well played, sir.

Amazons are from the Wonder Woman movie (watch it, I know BvS and Justice League polarised audiences, but this one was solid). If you havent seen it, they get in a scrap with some WW1 era Germans. Its quite fun.

    @oriskany

Im loving the neatness and boldness of the colours so far. That’s some top notch stuff. Cant wait to see more 🙂

I know it isn’t your cup of tea, but Id like to see you do a Warhammer 40,000 army and see what you come up with.

Okay, after a hectic misbehaved morning from a certain mini-me, my parents are dropping him home. So now, things are quiet. My brain needs to slowly decompress. Here is some music

I am watching TV and snacking til my brain resets. As well as doing housework and setting up hobby. Im going to do a bunch of ‘mini’ challenges today for myself as I scratch my head looking for inspiration for the three day challenges I was talking about earlier.

    Today:

    (1) Pictures of the finished Firebelly
    (2) Gap fill my Gundam Kit
    (3) Finish the Mordor Troll
    (4) Finish basecoats on the Morannon Orcs
    (5) Finish an Imperial Assault Probe Droid (a model I lost and found, one shy of a finished IA Core set)
    (6) Prime two bases
    (7) Repair my Iron Hands Iron Father
    (8) Repair one Ogre Kingdoms Gnoblar2
    (9) Paint 4 GKR small mechs (no idea what the proper name of them is)
    (10) Work on an Ogre Maneater
    (11) Finish two human Dreadball minis (finishing the team)
    (12) Finish Owlman (BMG)
    (13) Work on the remnants of my Mr Freeze crew (BMG)
    (14) Paint Captain Boomerang (BMG)
    (15) Work on my Bayourks (Arcworlde)
    (16) Finish the toy repaint (Vaporeon from Pokemon)
    (17) Write-up my thoughts on playing with a 4 year old
    (18) Finish a few write-ups here and there

Time for coffee, chocolate, painting, and finishing this metal documentary. Not sure if I will go for a swim or not… feel drained

@mage you at least need to complete Captain Boomerang for the big game.

Also, remember I am a big DC fan and I’ve seen all the new movies and love them. I was more wondering what wonder woman’s wondrous women were doing wandering into Gotham city and how on earth the other crews were meant to beat them. Really liked the wonder woman on a horse too. I’ve not chosen a faction. I’ve not chosen a faction..

@evilstu it’s probably going to be the weekend until I see daylight again so in progress will have to be next week. I’m planning on getting some paint on Mortarion so something to look forward to.

Gyah! Slot bases with no tabs! These are my newly acquired arcworlde minis. A solution is at hand.

I do need to finish him he’s. But he’s on the list! As for the Amazons, well, why would the be in Gotham? As diplomats. The Amazonian Ambassador has an important headquarters in Gotham and works closely with the Wayne Foundation, but also keeping tabs on the Lexcorp and Star Labs branches there.

    Thanks, @evilstu and @mage .  😀

@evilstu – I wouldn’t mind hosting the weekender again one of these days, I’ll be out of town this weekend though.
