Some possibilities:
Warhammer 40,000
Space Orks – Im getting interested with them again. Orktober is coming, along with a strong sense of Nostalgia for the Third War for Armageddon.
Drukhari (Dark Eldar) – A project that have been on the backburner for some time. I haven’t lost interest in them but they aren’t exciting me for a challenge.
Craftworlds (Eldar) A project that have been on the backburner for sometime. I have lost interest and hey aren’t exciting me for a challenge.
Tyranids A project that have been on the backburner for sometime. I haven’t lost interest but they aren’t exciting me for a challenge.
Necrons – A project that have been on the backburner for sometime. I haven’t lost interest but they aren’t exciting me for a challenge. Recurring theme here much?
Space Marines (Dark Angels) – Kind of exciting! Late Heresy / Early Imperial army. I liked seeing how @irredeemable ‘s Dark Angels performed against my Knights of Blood in Games.
Space Marines (Blood Angels Successor; Knights of Blood) – Two scout squads to buy and a nice little contingent to play before they are the legal list I have for 8th edition. Excited about playing them in future.
Space Marines (Minotaurs Chapter) – The Chapter excite me. I have the basecoats down from the Dark Imperium set and some other non Primaris stuff from a little longer back.
Space Marines (Iron Hands Chapter) – I only have a few models to paint to finish the army off. Maybe not.
Space Marines (Crimson Fists) – A half finished army. I love their lore.
Grey Knights – See Eldar
Imperial Guard – A big army. Fun. Not sure if they are suitable for a challenge. They excite me but I’d rather this be a long term project. Convert my own regiments and such. Not to be rushed.
Chaos Space Marines – Could return to this army. Might be funner to do as a bigger scale thing like the guard where I do something epic from the ground up. Or refurbish the army. Might work better as a larger, collaborative and feedback based one
Death guard – Two Dark Imperium’s worth of Death Guard.
August 27, 2018 at 2:49 pm #1258371Other possibilities:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Boxed Games:
*********************
Space Hulk (2008 version; plenty of fun stuff to paint in here!)
Necromunda (awesome game)
Betrayal at Calth (Ill also technically get a Heresy army complete…)
Burning of Prospero (or two in the case of this, albeit smaller ones)
Test of Honour (I still have so many little Samurai to do… lol)
Board Games:
**********************
Arcadia Quest (a chibi, anime style game I love the look of but had almost forgotten about)
GKR (literally just four mercenaries drones to do that are not prepainted)
Wrath of Ashardalon (I’m not too pushed about getting this completed for now)
August 27, 2018 at 3:12 pm #1258382Warmachine / Hordes
*****************************
I have several armies for both games. Ive kind of lost interest entirely in this to be honest, due to the new edition, a bad game or two, and some negative changes and experienced on the company’s official forums. Swings and roundabouts. I might care again, some day.
Other Armies / Games
*****************************
K47: I have an American Army to do for Konflikt 47. This might also be fun!
Dropzone Commander: Some Shaltari and a force of UCM
Skirmish Games (kind of):
*****************************
Dreadball – fun game, multiple teams
Shattered Earth – haven’t played, two armies
Mythos – all current available Starters (five!), and I love Lovecraft
Batman Miniature Game – I have Owlman, a Brave and the Bold Crew, the end of a Mr Freeze Crew and the Suicide Squad starter set of minis to be done.
Infinity – a handful of Combined Army minis to do.
Age of Sigmar:
*****************************
Do the terrain for my Temple of Skulls Project…
Ogres: I still have 31 models or so to do even after everything I have finished.
Khorne: I have some Daemons I could paint up, as well as a bunch of characters
Stormcast: I still have two boxes worth, a character and a Christmas set to paint up…
Dark Elves: I have ten Crossbowmen to paint (Mengil Manhide’s Manflayers)
Undead: Nagash, Grave Guard, Skeletons, Mortis Engine, Heaxwraiths, some characters
Ironjawz: A Christmas set from last year, quite a few
Tzeetnch: A medium sized tzeentch army with various units.
August 27, 2018 at 3:25 pm #1258387Arcworlde:
******************************
The Troll Bridge Set (a Halfling, Bayourk and Albionnican band)
Halfling Warband
Other miscellaneous models (Albionnicans, Hired Swords, Named Characters)
Monsters: A Forest Dragon and a Giant
War of the Rings:
******************************
Pellenor Fields refurbishment
Easterling Army
Harad/Corsair Combined Force
Moria Army
Themed Orc Armies (specifically Cirith Ungol and Dol Guldur)
Uruk Hai
Two Dragons (smaller than Smaug)
Last alliance Army (Elves an Numenorean warriors)
Minis Tirith Army
Theres other stuff there, but you get the deal, a bit of everything

August 27, 2018 at 11:32 pm #1258617Hi guys.
Apologies for not engaging with the Weekender thread sooner. Let’s just say my working week took a nosedive into guano-town and it was best for everyone if I just disconnected for a bit to recharge. But hey, feeling if not better then at leas table to engage with the human race on a functional level 😀To answer
@mage@evilstu ‘s questions:
1) I’ll be honest, whilst i skim over the projects I normally don;t have time to go through them properly, and that’s a real shame. likewise I know my Gunpla build thread hasn’t had any updating in a few months and I could post reams of material regarding my Infinity or 40K projects, it’s just finding time as most weeknights I’m struggling to keep up to date on everything else thats going on >_<
2) ’nuff said
3) So long as you are enjoying your hobby, and not causing harm to anyone, other peoples opinions are just that. You do what you do.And hobby? Well my copy of Codex Space Wolves arrived Saturday, 24 hours after ordering from Goblin Gaming so fair shout there, and whilst there was nothing ground-breaking what was there has given me some ideas:
This chap that I kit-bashed last weekend? Turns out he has the exact wargear for a Company Champion, and I’m oddly enamoured of the idea of having him tag-teamed up with Ragnar Blackmane for character and troop-slaying shenanigans. Maybe hide them in a blob of Blood Claws for extra spiceyness?
Built another 5 Grey Hunters, to bring this pack up to a full 10, and there are parts in here from (I think) 7 different Space Marine kits going right back to the first 3rd Edition plastics…
Gave that lone Heavy Bolter-wielding Long Fang some buddies. I think this takes me to 16 long Fangs in total across three packs? I wonder how mean it would be to drop 8 Multi-Meltas or 8 Heavy Bolters (or some combination) in a single Drop Pod? Especially using the Stratagem that ignores the -1 penalty for moving for long Fangs….
Oh, and found parts to build 5 more Sky Claws, so I could now field a full pack of 10 raving lunatics. Debating whether to convert up a Wolf Priest to keep them in line 🙂
I believe that this brings my Space Wolf Blackmane Great Company to:
- Ragnar Blackmane
- Njall Stormcaller
- Rune Priest
- Wolf Priest
- 2 Wolf Guard Battle Leaders
- 1 Wolf Guard Ancient Standard Bearer
- 1 Company Champion
- 1 Relic Contemptor Dreadnought
- 1 Iron Priest
- 10 Wolf Guard Terminators
- 10 Wolf Guard
- 10 Wolf Scouts
- 20 Blood Claws
- 42 Grey Hunters
- 16 long Fangs
- 10 Sky Claws
- 12 Fenrisian Wolves
- 5 Drop Pods (I wish these had some rule that over rode the “can’t deploy within 9 inches of enemy models” rule. It’s the whole POINT of a drop pod that they do this…)
That’s a good core right?
Otherwise? bit of an odd weekend – had the latest mass market paperback from the Horus Heresy series arrive Saturday (Garro) and tore through it. I’d listened to the audio-drama versions of the first few stories gathered within, but James Swallow adding some material back in for print versions, and the stories I hadn’t seen or listened to before were superb at showing Nathaniel Garro’s journey. I look forward to the final book of the HH series (The Buried Dagger) where we will apparently get to Mortarion and the Death Guard’s fall to Nurgle, and Garro’s reckoning with his Primarch & former Legion (then the 50+ Horus Heresy series gives way to The Siege of Terra… jeebus, I started reading these over a decade ago and thought it’d be a short series…).
Oh, and finished listening to the Audible version of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, read by LeVar Burton. A fantastic book, and even 30 years later Sagan’s enthusiasm and talent shines through. I’ve got Pale Blue Dot to listen to at some point and can’t wait, but am sorely tempted to rewatch Neil DeGrasse Tysons take on the tv series this was a companion to from a couple of years ago.
August 27, 2018 at 11:34 pm #1258620August 27, 2018 at 11:48 pm #1258631Hey all, did ya miss me ? 😀
Hope everybody had a great and productive weekend.
Well I spent most of mine celebrating 28 years of married bliss…. only the wife was celebrating 29 years of married bliss (i’m pretty sure theres a language somewhere where Bliss translates as putting up with childish and immature behaviour… just not found it yet).
Shock of the week though. Decided to go for a pint at my old local and realised its 40 years since I first walked though its doors….. arrrgh I’m getting old…. I can still do the things I did when I was a teenager only I creak a lot more and it takes me a couple of days to recover.
I am hoping to go back through the thread over the next few days if time allows but looking after the grandkids for the rest of the week (til friday) as well as my usual chores.
I’ll have a go at the questions for now though:
1) Actually I haven’t really looked yet. The only thing I did check out a couple of weeks ago was a 3 colours up painting tutorial for Batman.
2) Oooh good un… theres a few I remember asking my mum to buy for me…. probably not what you’re expecting though.
And from a time when skirts were short and boots were high
3) Mmmm, I suppose it was to never say “Anything but a one.” within earshot of the dice.
August 28, 2018 at 6:44 am #1258691August 28, 2018 at 7:00 am #1258692@dawfydd @biggabum there you are! Missed you both.
Dawfydd dude your Space Wolves are coming along great, love the company Captain you’ve made. Space Wolves are made for kit bashing and you’ve taken this to heart. How are you coming on painting them? Just that I smell a project…
Everytime I hear a loyalist marine player complain about drop pods I remind them I’m a chaos player and they should count The Emperor’s Blessings. :P.
Biggabum nice write up of your weekend battle report.
Time for a spoons special and some random pictures from my game yesterday.
August 28, 2018 at 9:31 am #1258731@dawfydd D’oh indeed. Sometimes you just gotta get some you time. Good to see you again!
<br>Can you post a link to your gunpla thread? My son has been playing with some of my old Gundam Kits so Im thinking about them again
<br>Nice company champion. Now get paintin’
<br>Im lovng the kit bashing.
<br>Sounds like your buildling a good ol-fashioned ‘Fang Mountain’. Is drop podding them in really a good idea? I mean, what happens next turn, or if they don’t kill said thing? Would a Rhino or Razorback moving them make more sense? Once the pod lands their mobility is gone.
<br>Skyclaws too? Sweet holy throne your thirst for 40k knows no bounds. That’s a pretty large company. A Great Company is bigger than a Space Marine Battle Company, right?
Also, can you tell me of any Successor Chapters shown in the Space Wolves Codex?
Its great to have such a large series to immerse oneself in. That way when one finishes reading it it feels like a grand sense of achievement.
<br>@biggabim We did!
Oddly enough, that Middle of the Road song was being played for my son by my father the other day and he was singing it away to himself (my son). Best of luck catching up on the thread.
<br>@woldenspoons
I concur with the point you make on Space Wolves and kit-bashing.
I wondered about that. Its not like Chaos Marines don’t have their own starships and pods…
<br>Your walking dead game looks great.
<br>Im on the verge of finishing my Ogre model, just the base now. D&D tonight too; I managed to book the night off work so I can go training, do D&D, and spend more time with my son before he goes home tomorrow morning to his mum.
Pics will go up later of said Firebelly (Ogre Wizard) when fininshed.
Gentlemen adieu, it is time for me to go out into that real world we all keep hearing about.<br>
August 28, 2018 at 9:32 am #1258732August 28, 2018 at 11:59 am #1258846@mage Ok sounds like you have a fairly goof handle on how you are going to approach this. The D&D minis could be an interesting project, not sure it would translate as well to this particular type of challenge as a whole starter box/game/army etc though. If you need a hand kitbashing Mordheim mins let me know – I have an unhealthy amount of spare arms etc form many many Empire sprues… yeah, I have to confess I’m starting to feel Orktober…
A Ulysses Pact/Ulyssian Compact is where you do something intentionally to lock in your future self to a planned course of action. Kind of like burning your ships/bridges. It comes from Greek Mythology where Ulysses had his crew tie him to his ships mast so that he could hear the sirens without being tempted to crash his ships on their rocks (all his crew had wax in their ears so couldn’t be tempted by the siren’s song). Heh, I did used to love that cartoon as a kid…
Looking forward to BMG pics. Wow, a marathon list of projects. I was considering hitting up something in the 30k space but Forge World just changed their website so now the AUD prices are 30% more that their GBP equivalent. ie – Aussies now pay about an extra 30% on top of Forge World’s standard pricing. Im’a just let that one sink in for a bit :-P… Still working out what to do with the Primaris form my Dark Imperium starter. Can’t really use them for Armageddon (well I could for the mop-up I guess…), I might just do them up as an addition to one of the chapters that fought at Armageddon – there were enough to pick form (No ultramarines strangely enough though… they were there for the 2nd war but not the 3rd…).
Space Hulk and the BMG stuff might also be fun ones, especially as you are likely to use the BMG stuff fairly regularly. 80 points for assorted posts and feedback.
@dawfydd welcome! No need to apologise, hope you are de-stressing and recharging from work now 🙂 Wow, that is super-quick delivery. Sorry there were no real surprises in the book for you but glad it has inspired some more building and conversion ideas. And your conversions really do look amazing! That’s a lot of editions worth of components in there – great to hear. you know your force is going to look original. Even the models within the same squad look really individual 🙂 yes I would suggest that you now have a solid base of options to select from ;-P 50+ books?… Wow, that is a fairly dense project in and of itself. I wonder if once the series is complete they will take the opportunity to release them all as one box? 70 points for question responses, hobby progress and book reviews 🙂
Hey @biggabum hope the anniversary dinner was nice 🙂 Of course we missed you, aside form the flaming poo cloud thingy comment nobody has given me a single unwanted mental image to be confronted with all weekend – It’s just not normal ;-P Eclectic choice of music 😛 Wow, I’m impressed you have lived near the same spot long enough to have had a local for 40 years. I’ve lost count of the number of places I have lived in. Hope you have a wonderful time with the grandkids 🙂 40 points for question responses and update on your week.
@woldenspoons the drop pod comment made me giggle 🙂 Game looks intense. I will have to confess I still haven’t got around to watching the show (The Gf doesn’t really like horror so it’s a bit hard to time binge-watching something like that…). 30 points for responses and pics.
@mage hope D&D is fun. 30 points for feedback and responses.
Well team I’m going to retire for the evening and see if I can shake this irritating headache I’ve had all day :-/ I did get some hobby done, sort of… Did the write-up for my Terrain Challenge entry, with a whole few days to spare ;-P Link follows if anybody wants to see what has been distracting me on and off for the last few weeks…
August 28, 2018 at 12:04 pm #1258850And before I forget, @bothi an absolutely outstanding job on your hobby challenge. the OSL on the plasma weapon was a particular standout for me, but the whole project looked great 🙂 I think doing ‘A Bothi’ will now be the hobby equivalent of completing the Kessel run in less that 12 parsecs 🙂 100 points for awesome hobby completion.
For the benefit of anyone who has missed it:
