@bothi thanks for the tip re OSL. I have tried the ‘thinning down and brushing on repeatedly’ method with very mixed results. targeted drybrushing as you suggest might be a much easier approach. I will look forward to giving it a go. That double blind game sounds like it would have been amazing fun! A lot of work to set up and organise (and in the case of @andre77 a lot of work to GM no doubt) but those types of gaming experiences are the ones that you remember for years after so well worth the effort no doubt 🙂 Best of luck finishing the pledge! Please don’t rush in and do anything prior tot he varnishing curing properly just to get it finished. 40 points for responses, painting tips and old war stories 🙂
@mage that is a lot of potential projects! And all worthy ones at that. I think you and I both need to set up a project log to keep track of the projects that each of us have planned 🙂 The board games do sound like nice self contained projects but I do personally have a leaning towards armies etc.
Sorry to hear that your opponent for Dreadfleet was a bit arrogant – hope that hasn’t tarnished your opinion of the game. And just so we’re clear, “weird fiery poo cloud” does not really invoke a mental image that will help me to sleep soundly 😛 Was the witch hunter diorama you were thinking of perhaps the “Rescue of Sister Joan” by Victoria Lamb? That was the first time I remember seeing OSL on a mini/diorama and it blew me away.
Historicals were all varnished in Army painter Dark Tone. I was thinking of using Strong tone for the French troops in greatcoats but then they might end up with a different look to the troops without greatcoats, so dark tone all the way for consistency. Reaper mini has already had a coat of ink. It’s pooled nicely down into the recesses and not discoloured the white base coat at all, so I’m really keen to see how it works on finished minis. Gave it a targeted application to the cultists for my terrain challenge project so I will see tomorrow how it looks once dried over proper colouring. Skaven are yet to get a dip, probably Army Painter dark tone again, although the Strong tone might make them look a bit more grubby and grimy, almost like they have been hanging out near weird fiery poo clouds, 😉 so I will have to have a think about that before I opt for one shade over the other. Printing at the moment has been shorter print jobs on the weekend when I can turn them over regularly, and bigger ones (paved road sections currently…) during the week when I can put one job on to run during the day when I am at work and another one overnight. Shoot me a PM re what you have in mind 🙂 70 points for long detailed feedback and responses.
August 26, 2018 at 1:54 pm #1257713I would set up a project log for the potential one I choose, assuming I go ahead.
Id appreciate more feedback from thread-goers on whether or not I should and what I should cover.
Any particular requests or things that youd be intersted in seeing, @evilstu ? Age of Sigmar, Lord of the Rings, Warhammer 40,000? Or Mordheim warbands?
August 26, 2018 at 1:55 pm #1257717August 26, 2018 at 3:33 pm #1257832I’ve got some painting done today and arranged a game for tomorrow. A nice bit of Walking Dead. Unfortunately the guy I am playing is a pro level painter but I’ve given mine the old college try anyway. I’ve even painted Boston Red Sox symbols on my caps by hand. Boom.
I got a decent amount of work done on the Death Guard too but light is getting worse so I’ll hold off on pictures. Now some tunes to send you on your way.
August 26, 2018 at 3:49 pm #1257835@mage it’s in German because I live in Germany, I am German (as my wife and daughter) and also the club and event were too 😉 Sorry if this shocks you *g*
Today was a great day at the beach with knights and ladys! 😉
Can’t show more pictures because of to private Sorry 🙂
August 26, 2018 at 4:27 pm #1257853August 26, 2018 at 4:58 pm #1257854@mage nearly perfect given that your keyboards lacks the Umlaut keys üöä 😉 But with the “über alles”… that’s not something most Germans like to hear. It’s a phrase to much reminiscent of our darkest history. So I’d rather not use that phrase in public. 😉
August 26, 2018 at 5:53 pm #1257874Not much hobby being done by me this weekend . Car problems , which ended up in having my car removed for scrap . So spent a good part of yesterday getting to know the bus routes to and from work . Still on the fence what camo color to paint my last Tiger . Tried green , didn’t like it , repaint . Try red brown , still not right . Maybe a combo of the 2 with all those ambush dots ? Guess I’ll have to wait till I get in the painting zone , don’t feel it this AM . Been doing little work on my FJ tank riders , trying see how many I can fit on the engine deck , still needs a tweak or two to feel right
You guys have got some nice painting and game playing in this weekend , well done
August 26, 2018 at 6:24 pm #1257892@sundancer I am well aware of where I did and do not use Umlauts, sir. I can also point out that Motley Crue’s use of them is highly incorrect.
Fair enough with the UA thing. Didn’t realise it had those type of connotations. I thought it was like a soccer chant or something.

Cant get my phone to charge. Gonna have a coffee and boost bar now while I watch the Simpsons and boycott the broadcast of the P-man visiting Ireland on Irish news. Simpsons time. My parents are taking my son out to the supermarket for a bit. Hes now making a lot of noise, giddy after the pool, riding a rocking horse around. Not back and forth or up and down. Literally hopping on this heavy wooden thing accross the house. Its quite… odd.
Anyhow, Lasagne into the oven too. Now is some quiet time for Mage.
Also @irredeemable is organising some of us in the D&D group to get a 2V2 BMG on! Woo!
August 26, 2018 at 6:38 pm #1257898Gonna scrounge a phone with a half decent camera somewhere around this crazy house. Front room is set up, curtains closed and light box ready.
The 2v2 game for BMG we worked out and figured just Captain Boomerang from my collection needs to be painted up for one of the crews and its ‘Even Stephen’s’.
I like your choice of music @woldenspoons . Did you prime the Walking Dead stuff white? Pictures are a bit blurry and too much light in them. Are they finished or are they basecoats.
@a27cromwell I like the work youve done so far anyhoo. Getting a feel for what to do with the tank instead? Sorry about your car dude.
August 26, 2018 at 6:56 pm #1257900I think i still have the paper-map we used:
Which i used in this deadly game of Infinity.
Or 2006 in one of our annual christmas carnages.
August 26, 2018 at 7:13 pm #1257912Nice stuff @andre77

Is it me or is the weekender thread a little quiet this weekend?

Okay so I am down to the last stage of the Firebelly. The finish line is in sight. The fire I did a bit more of, and I went over details. The skin and base is left.
A crappy close up of some details:
The back:
A close-up:
Finally, a more dramatic shot at an angle:
Aside from the odd post here and there that is probably it from me for today. I wont post another progress pic til he is finished.
August 26, 2018 at 7:23 pm #1257913@mage yes there are primed white. Makes the roamers easier to do mainly. They are indeed at base colour stage (I’m a little further on now) and coming on nicely. If they were based I’d call them table ready.
I take pictures with my phone, Huawei P20 Pro. The camera is incredible. I am not. Mind you I cropped those shots out so that may explain it.
Hoping I’m alright for my game tomorrow, this arrived today ☹️
August 26, 2018 at 7:24 pm #1257915Oh and @mage loving the firebelly. I’m a sucker for a gold mask. Well played.
