Book sniffing huh? *giving a look of inquisition (a non Spanish variety)* Riiiight. I do know libraries have their own but those are typically old publications. I’ve got to worry if the paper used for printing is off-gassing like other materials.

@limburger This latest Weekender was great to see the box and contents. I wondered what was included since I only had a cursory glance over the KS.

@mage sweet deal for your bday. Games of Mordheim are few and far between I’d say since it was canned. Chaos cultists weren’t my thing but for modding you’re in a good faction for it.

A ahort while before quitting time but here’s some more stuff to put in your earholes.

@mage that Iron throne is looking magnificent!

10 Points for the Pledge 5 points for the pictures, 10 Points for the answers and 10 points for the music.

@sundancer 10 points for the answers.

@limburger 10 points for the questions and 10 points for the videos.

@biggabum I hope everything’s ok, let us know if we can help out.

10 points for the Questions, 5 Points to your Grandaughter for making such good Spag Bol. I remember when I lived at Uni my Spag Bol was cheap noodles with tomato sauce and Kangaroo Mince (It was cheaper than beef mince at my local shops) all mixed together so at a quarter of my age she’s already a far better cook than I was 🙂

@horati0nosebl0wer 10 Points for the questions and 10 Points for the Videos.

@evilstu 10 Points for the Questions. Nothing wrong with chipping away at the mountain, so long as you accept it’s never going to disappear only get more manageable 🙂

Mmmm so the Daughter decided in her wisdom to take the Grandkids to see the “Other” grandparents this weekend which I meant poor old matty and me wern’t going to get a game in after all…. that is untill I had a bright idea… or so I thought.

I purchased a little bell for the wife so that we could play our game and if she needed attention while we were playing she could give us a little tinkle…. I should have set up video because I am sure she just broke the world record for campanology.

Sadly its not looking like we are going to get a big game in today, as her bell seems to have gone missing…. well its somewhere in the garden but not exactly sure where the bloody thing landed.

    @mage

Some great work going on there sir, throne looks really cool.

@horati0nosebl0wer Yeah I like the smell of old books too…. I really have a problem dont I ?

@elessar2590 thanks mate. Things are a lot easier now than they were a few weeks ago and the improvement seems to be accelerating now so everything should back to normal before Christmas…. When I say normal I mean for this household 😀

I know right! Just trying to paint up all the terrain and warbands between now and then. Might not get it done and won’t stress out about it but will be fun to try.

Actually there are 6872 people on the Mordheim facebook page, and the new ish video games are popular and generate interest. Also, I was talking to the lead designer of the game Tuomos Pirinen on facebook for a bit on the design choices around Witch Hunter warbands yesterday.

    @evilstu

Thanks! I was going to drybrush two highlights of army painter Platemail and Shining Silver, but it looks pretty close to the TV show colour now the black wash has dired so I may just leave it be…

    @biggabum

Thanks for the pre-emptive birthday wishes.

Hello people. Good to see everybody still doing hobby. I’m kind of lazy and can’t get myself to set the painting station up. Mainly because I’m still waiting for replacement parts. Keep the pictures coming 😉

    Greetings all,

Cheers to @elessar2590 for taking the wheel this weekend!

May be a quiet one for me this week, may not.

Pledge: Monday night DnD is on, we’re welcoming a total newbie, so it’ll be a level 1 one-shot to see how they like it, and if they gel with the group.

Painting will be the continuation of the Elf Project, though I’ll be busy with Real Life stuff Monday.

I used to be *click*click*clicking the tracking website, mentally willing that package to arrive faster… it never worked. Now I just try not to think about it and have a nice surprise when it arrives! Though there is one I should probably follow up, it’s still not marked as shipped. Not sure if all components are complete, or if I’ve not payed enough shipping ?

See I “live on” left overs: cook more than I need to eat tonight, means I have lunch for tomorrow. Less take-away, no waiting for it, easy!

Pizza is probably the takeaway of choice eaten cold from the fridge though. I still prefer to heat it up though, if I can be bothered.

I’ve only ever been to one tournament, Magic: the Gathering, summer 1998. It was fun, but I had NO idea what I was doing, lol!

Organised events are probably more fun. I always enjoyed the Roadshows GW used to organise (do they count?) back in the 90’s and early 00’s. I still have a “mint” version of the Sun, Squigs and Stormbolters tour t-shirt. I might get more involved in various events a bit more in future, once I get myself into my own house and get settled…

    A good geeky t-shirt.

Flick through and check out the art. Pick bits out at random and read. And yes, give a good sniff.

It’s sleep time now, I spent all evening since dinner refining my new Level 1 character. Replies and music tomorrow.

    Cya!

    1.    Since we Hobbyists tend to get a lot of mail, how do you “deal with” a parcel coming to you? Are you checking the tracking details constantly. always running to the mailbox or are you content to just sit and wait?

I’m terrible. I subscribe to W40k conquest which comes every 4 weeks and I still look for it daily. Amazon prime has spoilt me.

    2.    What’s your favourite leftover food to eat straight out of the fridge?

Cake. Curry is good as the extra day adds so much flavour. However cold pizza and warm beer is the breakfast of champions.

    3.    Are you a fan of Tournaments or Organised Events?

Not that long ago I was an avid MTG player following the grind and travelled all over. I might still be the highest ranked player in the history of North Wales. I still play local tournaments for war gaming and the tournament goer stereotype is largely a myth perpetuated by the occasional person who missed the point.

    4. 4.What the best “Socks and Jocks”/”Stocking Stuffer” gift for a Hobbyist?

Probably socks and jocks because any money they have usually goes on toys.

    5.    You’ve just been given a new rulebook, assume it’s a fantasy/sci-fi genre, what’s the first thing you do? Do you read from page one, look at the artwork, read the fluff, learn the rules or maybe something else?

After I’ve had a legendary sniff and tried to capture the scent in a stoppered bottle I look at the pictures, read the fluff intro and look through for stories. Chances are after a skim through the rules I never actually read them all. ?.

Had a solo game of AoW today using my kill team shuttle board. Great fun. Hershel died turn one, Maggie caused mayhem and Rick got bitten. His life slowly ticked away until he hit his last health point and then he survived until the end of the game. True story, one legged Dale got the most supplies but never opened one that wasn’t a lurker or a trap.

    Pictures!

@mage still chipping away at the Hobbit minis? Pardon my ignorance, but to they integrate well with the standard LoTR games system or are they effectively a different edition of the core game? is the Mordheim campaign marathon going to be a bunch of back to back games or just one massive all-in big game? Nice conversion for the possessed too – a good choice of poxwalker to represent it 🙂

@sundancer the hobby gift card is a good call 🙂

@limburger glad the parcels arrived OK – You had a chance to properly unbox yet? 10 kilos of habblock must be a fairly intimidating chunk of MDF. Lots of PVA in your immediate future or can it be disassembled and repacked after use?

@biggabum welcome back! Hope the better half is feeling well. Used to have a neighbour who could date old books to within about 10 years of their print date just by how they smelled. Not particularly useful as a superpower, but noteworthy nonetheless.

@horati0nosebl0wer Well I guess that’s one way to downsize the pile of shame 🙂 Seriously though, increased focus on a smaller number of models is bound to yield better paint jobs.  If I could settle on one games system or genre I’d consider something similar, but as it is I’m currently feeling inspired to fish out models from 15 years ago and start painting those up, so from that perspective I guess I’m better off hanging onto the stuff that I’ll probably never get to?… Anyhow… Sounds like some shiny loot inbound form the BF sales 🙂

@elessar2590 thanks for the encouragement but we both really know that the mountain won’t get more manageable – I’d need to paint a lot faster just for mini output to keep pace with what I pick up in the sales. Hrm, maybe I could put some flames on the side of my paintbrushes or colour them all in red… Seriously though, I think manageable is the key word. As long as I can keep things organised so I have access to what I need and know what I have then all should be well.

@rayzryr really liking your elf project. It’a making me want to fish out some of my old high elf and dark elf models. Have always been keen to do an Everqueen themed force and a Cult of Slaanesh dark elf army. Might have to see what I have on hand… Hope D&D goes well!

@woldenspoons heh, Amazon prime could be avry dangerous – I’m not sure I’d ever actually get around to leaving the house if we had access to that sort of delivery time here in Oz. Hrm, excellent point re Socks and Jocks… Nice repurposing of the Kill team board too – that really works well  🙂

@evilstu thanks. Things are a lot better now.

I can’t date books by smell but I can tell when Matty last had a shower…. to the nearest month 😀

    Replies and conversation!

@mage good idea using a friends address. I have lost big things, like kickstarters shipped to me at work: I’m there during daylight hours more than not.

Garbage is one of the best! Good choice ?

A birthday Mordheim Weekender boot camp at @mage ‘s place everyone: he just invited us all!! ? Sounds like you’ll have a fun birthday mate!

Your pox Walker conversion is looking great, suitably grubby colours too.

@limburger new book smell is great!

    @biggabum hi!

Spag bol is definitely better next day, always! Another New Book Smeller, yes!

@horati0nosebl0wer good choices for purchases, get anything super exciting/ something you’d been really wanting to get?

I made a “small” purchase of four minis from Kingdom Death. I say “small” because it was still the better part of AU$100 including shipping for them.

@evilstu thanks! I’m enjoying painting the elves, it feels like I’m catching up with something I’ve been meaning to do for a while.

Since it took my hobby time last night, I’ll try and share my DnD character sheet… see if this works.

The character is a level 1 fighter, inspired by the Twilight Knight type from Kingdom Death. See if this link works…

    ddb.ac/characters/4019564/cxUtHc

    nope, link doesn’t.

Hmm, the “Share Character” link from DnD Beyond doesn’t create a direct link, and I can’t upload the character sheet as a PDF in the forum here. I feel like that would work in the projects…

so I took screen shots of the character sheet and upload them as pictures for your entertainment ?

Good news is that I’m done with the Super Secret Secret Squirrel Project…. it will be posted … post-haste (?)

Yes, I can get to the other stuff I’ve been neglecting as far as painting, but I might take a few segues here and there to keep myself upbeat. I will get back to working on my avatar mini with the sideline of the warboss I threw onto my continuing project of stuff I’m futzing around with.

@sundancer We will hobby as hard and as loud as we can to make up for your presence. @limburger …we need more bubble wrap (Once you pop, you cant stop… or is that Pringles?). @biggabum… we need more bell (In all seriousness I hope that your wife feels better soon)

@mage good to see the progress on the possessed. I was thinking about getting a box of Tuetogen Guard to play as a Middenheimer warband’s Champion and Leader. I still have the original Youngbloods that GW put out and must say that the young girl is one of the only female figures that they didn’t blast out of proportion.

@woldenspoons A good green chicken curry is indeed a fine thing the day after from the fridge as the flavor has embedded itself into the dish. The breakfast of champions is seconded albeit the beer selection is dependent on the pizza. I’d say stout/porter/kolsch/IPA are fine candidates as counterpoints to various toppings.

@biggabum @woldenspoons @limburger @rayzryr What is this infatuation with attempting to inhale the printed word? I understand and quite agree that this hobby is like a crack addiction but this is a level I was not previously aware of. As far as the sniffing date of bathing I’ve got to wonder if you have a future in the dairy industry as far as aging cheese.

@evilstu The backlog isn’t so much a pile of shame as its just painful to consider that there’s no use for it as either for play or display. Making the conscientious decision to pare down isn’t on the line of minis but just how often they get interacted with. I have a Malifaux crew that I’m attached to despite the fact I don’t play. I love the Butchers for Guildball but I don’t play. I would put them on prominent display with the Alchemists that I picked up as well.

@rayzryr I did pick up the Gobbo Scrap tank I and III from Kromlech because I wanted to play around with vehicles and ork tech just seems great in how it’s cobbled together. The bomber we’ve all seen lately was an inspiration as well. As far as KD I picked up a double of the pinup police officer. It was something I saw before and thought might be interesting but didn’t have the cash. I’m planning to turn around with the second and send it off as a gift piece. Don’t feel bad about the “small” purchase as they are high end as products. The whole endeavor of Adam Poots for the game has been amazing.
