@mage more a Winnie Pooh but I’m fine with Invader Zim too. Best little green guy that is not a wargaming piece 😉

Loved the show. And it had great music!

I had an idea milling around in my head as a sort of community project, kind of. Maybe three of us do it, and start small.

The jist of it is we challenge each other to do something hobby and then we do it. Start out small and rough, and refine the concept maybe with a theme and guidelines moving onto the next stage, and have a community vote for the best.

For instance, and these are just examples for it to be relatable here, after a random draw:

@robert challanges me to paint something fantasy, and decides to say an Arcworlde warband or monster

I challenge @sundancer to convert a Mandalorian from one of the SW Comics for his Legion collection

@sundancer challenges @robert to make a halfling diorama for Bloodbowl

Again, just examples to make it understandable. Not invites or pressure. If we like it, or it works, we could theme it by genre and hobby concept and have it more specific i.e. conversions, dioramas, Horus Heresy, fantasy, or doing something more abstract or whacky that we normally would not do?

Just a few wee touch ups and they will be ready to wash.

@mage I like the idea…. must contemplate on it for a while 😉

Something like that wouldn’t be for me as what I do with my models is what I want to do, not what someone challenges me to do with my models and I am not going to tell other people what to do with theirs.

Now if the Hobbyweekender decided to have a theme week or month and the theme was Sport, then I might decide to paint up my Halfling Bloodbowl team or build a pitch or paint some Dreadball or sit out and paint some 10mm Dwarfs instead.

@sundancer Do contemplate it, provide feedback or extra ideas if you would like

@robert Dwarves are coming along nicely. Fair enough without it being your cup of tea, and I stressed mentioning you as just an example because I saw you were active today: but do you have any ideas, suggestions or feedback for the concept? Just got inspired from the spring cleaning winners which were announced and the cool diorama on the book shelf someone did. It might lead to some random, cool ideas and projects we may never had thought of. I like the idea of a dynamic, collaborative, creative effort.

As for a themed month, that could be fun too. Want to flesh out an idea or two around it?

I’d much prefer something that is inclusive and everyone can join in as otherwise it will just turn into a clique circle jerking each other.  The Spring Cleaned worked because everyone could join in, the restrictions were limited and it was an excuse or incentive for people to go back to old projects.  Also there are only two people who will ever tell me what I can and can’t do with my own models; my mum or someone who is willing to pay me money and even then the chances of being told to go away in an impolite manner are high.

So an idea for a theme is would be on the first weekend of the month we have a theme for that month.  It needs to be very open, so everyone can take part.  So it could be “Infantry” – that month people who want to join in paint or make something related to infantry.  It could be a unit, one soldier or an imperial guardsman cosplay or someone coming up with rules of an infantry unit in a game.  Perhaps people could submit a drawing of some  infantry or submit a short story.    Showcase everyone’s work at the end of the month and through the month encourage, support, give ideas etc.  People can come and go as they please and if they don’t get it finished, who really cares?  It is their hobby.

The next month, the theme could be Blue.  Everyone could do something that can be linked to the colour blue… A ship on an ocean, ACW Union uniforms, Ultramarines… or a diorama for something sad that makes you feel blue, just as long as you can link it to blue.

With the initial idea, that I made above, it would be seperate to the threads, to clarify. Like a project for, I dunno, 2-10 people on a seperate thread as an experiment. Not a default change of the hobby weekender. For the broader forum. If it ever got to a stage as a circle jerk or clique I’d end it on the spot.

As for the theme month would that work better in a separate thread from the hobby weekender? Or with slightly stricter criteria to encourage creativity and to get people slightly outside of their comfort zone?

Blue eh? A sad viking at the aftermath of a Pyrrhic victory, perhaps. Thats my idea.

@mage that blue nightlord looks great so much better than mere black.

Maybe experiment with other dark colours (like deep purple or green) for these guys ?

    End of Week Points

Well one of my favourite TV quiz shows is Pointless, and you win by getting scores that have zero points.  It is a wonderfully simple scoring system and I should have used it from the start, but I’ll use it now… As everyone is a winner in my eyes, everyone gets zero points.  Well done everyone.

It has been fun playing god and judging you all by arbitrarily giving out points.  See you in the next one where, alas, I’ll return to being but a lonely minion.

Night Lords have always been navy blue to blue, never black

@mage surely only allowing a certain number of people do something and not letting others take part is a definition of a clique.   I also don’t see how restricting something makes it more creative and if people want to go outside their comfort zone they’ll do it if they want to.
