@mage : I honestly never had a problem with Matt Smith.
I do think they kind of overstretched his run. Not as bad as Tennant, but there was a definite “been there/done that” kind of feel to his antics. Probably due to the extrem focus on Amy and then Clara.
MagPi ?
It’s a magazine dedicated to the Raspberry Pi, which is a super cheap (+/- 40$) single board computer.
It runs a Linux flavour called ‘Raspbian’ by default.
The magazine is free as a digital download, but a physical copy has its advantages. ( https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/ )
I’ve seen so many cool projects that I’ve been wondering if I can find a use for it for myself. It’s too cheap to ignore.I think Killzone is just the right size army for me (plus no vehicles or flockin’ tanks … ).
It may make it easier to get myself motivated to complete my Spacemarine army as I can focus on them as kill teams. And it gives me an excuse to buy into armies I might not want as a full army anyway (genestealer cult, Harlequins, Deathguard, chaos, etc) …
GW must have struck gold … if they can keep the momentum going that is.
Now if they bring back the squats they’d be cool again 😉 (There is one in Necromunda, right ? So no more excuses LOL)//
@tuffyears : great looking nurgle things 🙂
//
@warzan : those question/answer tags could be useful for any forum thread.
I’ve seen techy forums use this to highlight ‘accepted’ answers by the person who started the thread.July 23, 2018 at 6:15 pm #1238507@dawfydd (20 points, I enjoyed the post)
That souds cool but is it literally ‘tap mostly automatic stuff to happen and spend money’? That Blaster and Slag thing sounds cool. Combiners sound like a way to force you to spend money to enjoy the game.
Fallen are cool. Similar but different fun aspect to playing Knights of Blood (a now destroyed Blood Angels Successor who were excommunicated a while back but didn’t turn to Chaos, I think). Nuance is good. Like Soul Drinkers.
That sounds really interesting with Battletech. A few of the lads I went to college with were mad into it and would love that.
Reading your post here is like Christmas morning. It would be great if people who posted on the thread in past times could provide input too maybe @irredeemable or @oriskany and others.
Kind of overwhelmed. Need a while to read over and think over this as there is a lot of awesome choice. An XP pool would be fun. I don’t know a good ball park number to start with. 100? 1000? 5000?
Nomination buttons would be sweet too. Kinda make it more automated and easier to focus on hosting as well as making it more peer driven.
Those suggestions are all solid. So overwhelmed, haha! It all sounds so good! 🙂
Sweet, I will check that out.
@limburger (2o points, interesting views on f Who)
I couldn’t stand him. However its all down to personal taste which is subjective.
Tennants run, in my humble opinion, was not overstretched. I mean, the extreme focus on Amy and Clara show he as a character isn’t compelling enough to go a season or two alone without having to inject that in. I mean, there were prior companion changes over shorter series of time, but making the show at times not really about the doctor makes it a tad contrived.
So what subject matter does it cover?
The Killzone Sector Mechanicus is amazing. Do you have much painted of your collection?
They seem to be doing well at the moment, them geedubz.
July 23, 2018 at 6:31 pm #1238528So, a little bit from me. I bought this reduced toy set from a franchise I have loved since I was a child.
I decided to turn one of them into a mini project. This is Vaporeon, a Water Pokemon (Pocket Monster).
As you can see there are gaps for articulation, which are not desirable for me.
As well as copyright text:
More to follow on this later.
July 23, 2018 at 6:36 pm #1238530I splurged a tiny bit…
And my Pokemon Go experience, nobody in particular asked? Well I got an invite to this:
July 23, 2018 at 6:51 pm #1238548The invite was to face Mewtwo, a Legendary Pokemon from the first game that has appeared in later games and the series as well as movies. He is often a bad guy, very powerful and a lab experiment that went awry. A kind of, Monster in the Dark, if you will.
Each team (Instinct are Yellow, Mystic are Blue and Valour are Red) created a separate lobby. That way we could all maximise the benefits of doing separate fights rather than going public. We selected our own battle teams and waited for battle…
I wasn’t sure if we had enough time to defeat Mewtwo. I used a bug type, Anorith, to capitalise on Mewtwo’s weakness
Apologies for the bad photo. I was focussed on the fight and waiting til victory was on our side before taking a snap with the ringer thingy on screen. Many of us brought Ghost and Dark types/moves to counter Mewtwo’s Psychic type. I went trough about nine Pokemon, facing off with one of my B-Team members, Banette, a Ghost Type, toward the end of the fight.
July 23, 2018 at 6:52 pm #1238550We persevered and I caught my Prize (not a guarantee to catch him after winning):
I appraised him and discovered he is 95-98% Perfect, there is an in app way to figure it out and a now banned IV checker that one can use. So, I have me a Champion right here.
Our mark of victory:
Later that day we saw this dude by the local river and made him our FB Page Mascot:
July 23, 2018 at 9:26 pm #1238604So I think what @mage is trying to tell us is that he had a productive weekend 😛
Naw, I kid, all good dude. Looks like some sweet sweet loot there and the Pokemon Go travails seem to have been worth it.
Regards Earth Wars yeah you can spend real cash if you want but there’s really no real need to. I think in 3 years I’ve put maybe £20 into it? At most? Mainly to show the devs my appreciation. And there is something borderline complulsive about find the right combo of bots and abilities whilst making sure your base is tight…
@warzan – XP? Achievements? Oh my word 😀
And on a different note, anyone been following the trailers coming out of this years SDCC?
Well here’s some of my highlights (not including the return of The Clone Wars that may have made me to a “Squee”)…
Just putting these together as Aquaman is just looking like it’s weaponised Jason Mamoa’s charisma, whilst Shazam! looks a pure joy:
Before he faces Kong, Big G first must prove he IS the King:
And just released today, the second trailer for Alita, Battle Angel that I think still looks aces:
Still surprised that there was no showing from Marvel outside of The Gifted, but Captain Marvel is still shooting I believe and anything related to Avengers 4 is just a massive spoiler they are trying to lock down….
July 24, 2018 at 12:09 am #1238716Okay, so after a 12 hour day at work I briefly came home to touch up the Sabretusks for my Beastclaw Raiders. Then went to the gym for the bones of an hour and got sidetracked on the way home with Pokemon Go. Lots of Ghost types and also caught something really special. I will share more of this and my hobby tomorrow.
July 24, 2018 at 3:14 pm #1239207Busy morning and need to get some shut eye before my night shift. Guys, please post away with content and I will reply later this evening, and try and get more of my own material up too!
July 25, 2018 at 1:18 am #1239576Had a big reply for @dawfydd that seems to have disappeared… grumble grumble
A very quick but bad photo of today’s finished Sabretusks for Age of Sigmar:
July 25, 2018 at 1:19 am #1239577@dawwfydd (20 points)
I did indeed have a productive weekend. On Wednesday or Thursday evening I will try total up the points. Its kinda quiet today, but I haven’t been on hosting much, either.
Im enjoying Pokemon Go quite a lot.
£20 in three years aint bad. Id like some Combiners. Maybe Combaticons. The Voyager class ones are tempting.
I saw the Aquaman one (looks promising) and the Shazam one (looks like the 1/5 movies they do right, like Wonder Woman).
Alita and Godzilla I must watch. Now is a good time.
20 points.
July 25, 2018 at 5:29 am #1239634Hey Team,
Apologies for dropping off the radar – Work usually becomes all-consuming for me from July to September (our D&D campaigns are kind of structured on the basis that my character will either be NPC’ed or go ‘on a side quest’ for a few months) but this year things ramped up unexpectedly in late March. I have a few days off to recharge the batteries before the next push so thought I’d take the opportunity to drop in and say Hi 🙂
Haven’t been hobbying much of late due to a combination of little free time and it just being way too cold – a friend of mine is trying to strip a table to repaint for use when he is doing hobby out in his shed. A month ago it got so cold that the paint stripper had stopped activating when applied. He checked the paint stripper last weekend and the tub was frozen… My hobby time has been almost exclusively trying to keep up with the Weekender shows, which I’ve managed to do with varying degrees of success. Still getting used to the new site – really liking the projects feed though. There are some really nice projects on the go 🙂
@mage good to see the thread still running – well played. Ogres? And undead? Does this mean you got the dark elves all finished? Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the threads so you have probably covered elsewhere previously. I keep meaning to dabble in AoS a little bit but can’t justify it until I get some of my ‘in progress’ projects knocked over (ie I need the bench space…). And lot of shiny loot 🙂 Ha, lego Jawas, awesome!
@dawfydd yes love the new trailer wave every SDCC. Unsure about the new Godzilla – ok yes it looks fantastic and I’m sure I will see it but for me Godzilla films will always be 85 minutes of terrible acting filled window dressing set around 5 minutes of a guy in a rubber dinosaur suit stomping all over a cardboard model of Tokyo 😛 Those Phalanx minis look great!
@tuffyears really nice nurgle knights there 🙂
@warzan aren’t you supposed to be on holidays? Or do I have my days mixed up again? …
@biggabum good to see Saga back out again. having worked graveyards in a hotel you’d be surprised. by how many people end up sleepwalking naked and need to be let back into their rooms after getting locked out. A little bit awkward…
@limburger heh I really don’t need to be reminded of how terrible cartons from my childhood were 😛 The depressing bit is that they have pretty much gotten worse in the intervening years… Poor kids of today 🙁 Having said that, some of the older cartoons do stack up – mainly the old anime ones with english dubs. I guess because they were slightly more mature or had storylines that were more developed? I’m probably being overly judgemental here, sorry 🙂 Did you go in for the full kill team starter box? I’ll have to confess I’m thinking about jumping in (because hey, who doesn’t need more hobby projects on the go?…)
@a27cromwell I know the feeling re building multiples of things. At least you tend to get into a rhythm and the later ones are built more efficiently time-wise I guess…
July 25, 2018 at 5:38 am #1239638Oh yeah, pledges and questions – sorry, working backwards through the posts…
(1) What have you been up to in my absence?
Erm, I’ve been absent in your absence?…
(2) Did you miss the weekender thread? Of course not! Don’t answer this one!
Totally 🙂
(3) Tell me something interesting you discovered or got or did with hobby this week.
Haven’t been hobbying at all – did buy something called ‘brush gel’ from green stuff world though – arrived in the post last week. Going to try and rescue some of my mini brushes before they become terrain brushes (unsure if I can rescue my dry brushes and make them terrain brushes again – not sure how far along the brush use evolution tree things can be recalled…). Will give it a go and keep you posted.
(4) Recommend me a tv show.
Knight Rider. Because 1980’s 😛
Hobby pledge – to actually get some sort of hobby done, even if it is just as a protest against my lack of hobby for several months. Possibly knock out some terrain. May give the Terrain Challenge a quick go later on if I can find a bit of a window? Would probably be good practice with regard to using the new project system…
July 25, 2018 at 6:29 am #1239661July 25, 2018 at 10:54 pm #1239987Hrm.. I suspect dark sorcery is afoot here…
Tried this stuff last night. It looks like, feels like and kind of smells like normal hair gel, which I quietly suspect it isn’t.
Began with a brush that had lost it’s point (stupid pointless brushes…)
After a quick application of the brush gel:
Apologies I was struggling to get the bristles in focus but you can see the difference. I was really quite impressed. So at the risk of sounding like a TV infomercial salesman I decided to give it a go on the worst brush I could find.
This brush is about 20 years old, is now used for applying PVA to miniature bases and had just spent 2 weeks left standing in a jar of dirty paint water. It’s pretty much as bad as you can get. I gave it a quick soak in some hot water, tried the brush gel and set the bristles by twisting them around in a torsional movement (I wasn’t particularly concerned about losing bristles). Results follow:
See? Dark sorcery. So I’m pretty much sold 🙂 Obviously I’ll still use this one as a basting brush for PVA, but I think by using this stuff regularly on my good brushes I’ll be delaying them turning into basing brushes 🙂
Anyhow, that’s this week’s discovery…
