My abscence has come to an end. Busy today with martial arts this morning, then went for a jog and some exercise at a local sports park, and later a swim. Got a sprinkle of hobby done too!
Time to update this 😉
August 18, 2018 at 8:15 pm #1254305August 18, 2018 at 9:16 pm #1254318Decided to have a bit of a kit-bashing jam today, inspired by the immanent release of a proper Codex for the sons of Fenris 🙂
So if it’s an option I’m debating making this dude heavy weapon specialist in one of my Wolf Guard packs, alternatively he’ll bump one of my long Fang packs up to six men (if I don;t just decide to build a whole new pack instead 🙂 )
(I love how for the HH-era heavy bolter the designers just chopped a bolter in half then stuck the gun underneath it.Wonder if that’d work with a Primaris Marine? Maybe some dude manly manhandling it one-handed in a manly fashion?)
The bulk of what I was building:
this dude was going to just be a Wolf Guard Pack Leader, but I think he might get bumped up to the Wolf Guard Pack to serve as a shield-bearer for Ragnar.
And these guys were a fun take on yet another pack of Grey hunters, accompanying the Sgt I built a few weeks ago. I think this’ll take my hunters up to the 40-odd mark? That should be a decent core to work off of I guess?
August 18, 2018 at 11:09 pm #1254344August 18, 2018 at 11:26 pm #1254356Full disclosure I got sidetracked guys…

Harley Quinn is looking great. 20 points. Tattoos are tough. 40 ponts for the excellent music selection
Nothing wrong with being keen dude! I like it. Threads on here were quiet for some time but have picked up again recently.
Sometimes, you just need Maiden. 10 points for feedback to others.
(1) What is your opinion on cloning technology? If it was better would it be good for the world? What are the downsides?
People being cloned is what I was going for. Speaking of Dinosaurs:
Intended for replacement parts for humans is great but the system would be misused for the worse, I think, like anything nowadays. ‘I can’t believe its not Shakespeare.’ Your right though, with the unintended mistakes that would creep in. I mean, if cloning was something worth doing, I don’t think any amount of safety testing, beta testing or research would ever prepare it for going ‘live’.
A long, detailed, thought out answer warranting 20 points. Again, I will stress with anyone reading that short answers get small amounts of points and will detract from people gaining an achievement pertaining to conversation.
(2) Do you think we are the remains of a once more advanced society that suffered a calamity and since have had to rebuild our way back up since Ye Olde Caveman times?
Someone’s getting into highbrow semantics, lol. We have ipods and sushi. We are advanced enough 😉 10 points
(3) What is a game you have wanted to get into but have not yet done so? Board game, RPG, miniature game, computer game, all of the above and more. Tell us, go into detail.
This is multiple choice, I have you know, ;D
You don’t need any books or supplements to play Age of Sigmar. The rules are free. Download them on an app. If you want points values and extra stuff, get the Generals Handbook. Think of it as the ‘actual rulebook.’ If you want to get seriously into it and enter tournaments or events with an army then buy, though it is still not necessary, the appropriate army book. Its not that book intensive at all. Sure, there are a lot of options and choice, but its not mandatory.
They are dense in Infinity, but there are plenty of good batreps even with BoW alone.
I have K47 (it is what I am using the Gundamn for!), not Bolt Action per se, but if the players are uber competitive then find a different group to play with? 15 points.
What Clan are your old Ork Army?
Onto Page 2!
August 18, 2018 at 11:58 pm #1254360Sleep ? That’s for other people, right ?
(1) What is your opinion on cloning technology? If it was better would it be good for the world? What are the downsides?
I think the last thing the world needs is more of me … and there’s a few people we definitely need less of instead of more.
So *eh* I’m not too sure if cloning is a good idea even if we were to perfect it.
There already is tech that allows scientists to print meat, so we might not need it to create replacement parts for our biological parts.The RPG Eclipse Phase adds another possible cloning option : forking
A literal digital clone of your brain in a different physical body.
Think of creepy the options that gives … the traditional insult “go *beep* yourself” suddenly gets a sick new meaning.(2) Do you think we are the remains of a once more advanced society that suffered a calamity and since have had to rebuild our way back up since Ye Olde Caveman times?
@oriskany already covered this one.
The old civilizations already had plenty of knowledge that was lost.
Heck, even modern society is losing some of the skills that were considered ‘normal’ due to advances in computing.(3) What is a game you have wanted to get into but have not yet done so? Board game, RPG, miniature game, computer game, all of the above and more. Tell us, go into detail.
*eh* looks at stack of games and models still unbuilt or unpainted … and then there’s the various kickstarters that I have yet to receive … I think my list is endless.
I can’t seem to stick to just one era/theme/game. There’s too much stuff that speaks to me.And then there’s the stuff that I might want to look into, but probably won’t ever get to due to lack of info.
Example would be the Dutch army vs Indonesian rebellion post WW2. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bersiap )
It’s a dark episode in our history with practically zero info due to the nature of the conflict and the aftermath. The Indonesian rebellion is a little less heroic when you consider the attrocities committed by the ‘rebels’. It doesn’t make the actions of (some of) our own soldiers during the ‘police actions’ any less despicable though. It is in more ways than one our Vietnam …I also kind of want to know if a hostage situation like the infamous ‘De Punt’ train hijack can be simulated as a ‘game’.
(source : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1977_Dutch_train_hijacking ). Technically that day two hostage crisis happened. One at a school and the other one at the train.More realistic is a scenario near a bridge at Son that happened during Market Garden. The Bolt Action campaign book ‘Market Garden’ has that one. So if and when I got space it is on my list of ‘stuff to play’. I think it could make for a cool bolt action demo game for use at local conventions too, but that’s me dreaming the impossible at the moment.
Pledge wise ?
I had a brilliant idea for an Imperial Guard list based on Dirty Dozen movies.
Need to read the rules to see if it is viable.Cheap killteam options for those interested :
I saw this announcement :
Rogue Trader kill team … yay … and *eh* I still haven’t even begun building the core set. LOL
I think I hear my wallet screaming again.//
@biggabum : great Batman story.
Will there be more in the future ?
Does Harley get to rescue her puddin’ ? Or will Batman foil her evil plot ?
Same bat time ? Same bat channel ?August 19, 2018 at 12:07 am #1254361Because Page 2 is a monster of a page with detail, page 3 answers first!

@tuffyears No worries dude, see you Monday!
@dawfydd <10 points>
I’ve never been a big fan of the wolves. I don’t hate them but a guy I used to be friends with as a teen used to pulverise me with them, and he turned out to be a huuuuuuge a$$ a couple of years later so I associate them with him and bad times.
Anyhow, I cannot wait to see some Space Wolf Successors after the foundation of the Ultima Crusade!
Cool kitbashes. 10 points. It will be interesting to see how they turn out. Your tearing through them, huh?
@sundancer <35 points>
That is one nice batch of models, 35 ponts 😉

Well if it isn’t @oriskany . O-town. O-my gosh. Big-O. BIIIIIG OOOOOO*!!!!
Kinda sounds Flash Gordon…ey? Yes, that’s a word…
*Hope that wasn’t too personal a remark, it was an obscure anime reference, I have no idea what your height and weight is and hope you aren’t conscientious about it.

Damn dude, that is a mountain of words…
Nice pledge, someone is shifting their priorities and getting their head in the game!
(1) Cloning Technology
Ah, but could a technology be too polarising, bring up too many ethical questions, or too much of the old… jeepers my mind is failing me…. Danger stuff?
I wasn’t too aware of the crops or paying attention to that, but those are all valid. Are they copyrighted or patented technologies?
Meh, you only mentioned stem cells, I don’t think it violates the rules. There is some context to it. You are speaking about it in a medical/technological/philosophical way. I can’t imagine the convo getting too out of hand. I do agree with cloning a body part to save someone. I mean, if that were possible we wouldn’t need organ donors for poor teens dying of cystic fibrosis, like one of my friends did a few years back…
We do run into hazards though. Someone with too much money would come along and want to make one of those Rogue Troopers from DC comics. Or something weird.
Hm. Remind me to watch that movie Gattica. It was awesome. Haha! I type as a I read and delete stuff, and then you mention it. That twelve fingered pianist was messed up, if you remember it?
Medieval worlds with baseborn thoroughbreds, with gene-forged overlords. Im getting scared thinking about it.
So, the clone scientist gives me a… spinal tap? 😉 I actually did play Piano for a while so it’s a possibility. I suppose aesthetically they are a clone. But in all honesty, I’d disfigure him with a facebrand of some sort as soon as he got hatched out of the clone sauce. For reals. Then he would not be able to usurp me.
That has happened in Star Trek with Ryker, and in Voyager with Tuvok and Neelix getting spliced (barf!). Man, you are populating the USS Oriskany very quickly. You already have I assume yourself as Captain and @biggabum as transporter operator/chief. Am I crew or a passenger? Damn it man, make a crew… manifesto? Im too lazy to google what a manifesto is. Whatever a list of crewmen serving is. I’m getting distracted, aren’t I. Why is it so humid?
Does he have a soul? Do you need to be live-born for one? Or will we need to hire shamans/priests/holymen/soothsayers/witch doctors to ‘christen’ (not in a religious way, but when you hit the side of a boat or ship with a bottle) the clone at ‘birth’ (look how I dodged saying blessed, like a pro 8))
I’ve already tricked friends into painting minis for me, so I guess it would be harder to manipulate my clone as we have similar thought patterns, but I am sure we could hammer out a deal…
Super detailed answer. 35 points.
(2) Do you think we are the remains of a once more advanced society?
A very interesting idea, one I like 🙂 You did put on the hat though. 10 points! Is it a cowboy hat? Or something Bablyonian looking? Also, what if they proved there was some ancient Egyptian tomb, certified it, opened it, and they found like a laptop inside? I think it would undo everything we know and hold dear. Hm… This dead pharaoh is friends with Ra and Odin on some 3,000 year old version of Facebook…. Weird.
Valid point on Rome though. Never thought about it like that. Isn’t there some conspiracy theory that the library of Alexandria had a lot of the content taken and hidden beneath the Vatican? Not trying to make this about religion.
Valid point on the renaissance.
25 points.
(3) A game you have wanted to get into but have not yet done so?
It is so much fun! Don’t play it competitively though. I’ve walked passed friends at some of the events. While they did enjoy it I saw them did a little, only a tiny bit, on the inside.
Tie Jaeger sounds so cool. I know it only means ‘hunter’ but still, that could be used!
You WILL get around to it. Love it. And it will be good. And all will rejoice. And the children will sing!
15 points.
I need coffee too man. Stay strong. Can’t wait to see progress.
@eleesar2590
I will listen to the music later when I can. I need a quiet moment of chillitude to do so.
August 19, 2018 at 12:50 am #1254362@oriskany the British controlled Egypt because Egypt controlled the Suez Canal and Egypt controlled the Sudan. The Sudanese Rebelled under the Mahdi (Imam Muhammad Ahmed the Expected One).
British went in and were extremely successful in winning battles but failed to take heir objective of relieving Gordon in Khartoum. In the Process they lost two pretty major National heroes General “Chinese” Gordon and Colonel Fred Burnaby (Burnaby was a total badass) and pulled out of the Sudan for a few years.
All’s well that ends well though and they came back in the 1890’s with Machine Guns and Repeating Rifles.
The camel Riders are 90% done I just need to wash the shields with a Sepia wash but of course I don’t have one 🙂
The Civilians are plodding along well and I’ve started on the Bashi-Bazouks which should be fun.
The Medics are also finished. I might go work on some terrain later today if I can find the time.
August 19, 2018 at 1:01 am #1254363So I completed some Ogres

It is, I guess. I miss it…
(1) What is your opinion on cloning technology? If it was better would it be good for the world? What are the downsides?
Printed meat sounds ghastly. This is touched upon (forking) in altered carbon to a degree. Transference of consciousness moreso than cloning though. Guess its kinda different. 20 points.
(2) Do you think we are the remains of a once more advanced society that suffered a calamity and since have had to rebuild our way back up since Ye Olde Caveman times?
Such as? 10 points.

Yeah, you need to get painting and gaming. 10 points.

Nice pledge, long and detailed. 15 points. Koota is cute. 10 points for the pics of the stuff you were starting to work on.
@woldenspoons <xx points>
New avatar? Snazzy!
(1) As long as it is to validate a point than go off in a tangent or down a rabbit hole, go for it. Start throwing creationism into it as opposed to personal/enlightened/lifestyle/philosophical/moral reasons and you know where the door is 🙂 Not aimed at you specifically of course. Goes for everyone. Theological and Political discussions are a slippery slope leading to chaos.
Valid point in that all the fiction doesen’t depict it in a good life. Hunting and hunted, as you bring it up, has been touched on by the X-Men comics for decades. I can’t see cloning ending well. 20 points.
(2) Did we really land on the moon? 10 points.
(3) That is unfortunate. You have quite a nice little catalogue of games under your wing. Im loving Flash and Gotham to. I could make it harder too and start posting my stuff! Bwahahaha! PLAAAAY IIIIIIIT!!!! 😀
@biggabu<10 points>
Coven is apt. What if they merged?
10 points for feedback and posting to others
@evilstu <15 points>
Terrain printing is great as usual. 5 points.
What are those historical models, where are they from, how much are they and how do they compare to a space marine? 10 points.
Chinese food here is ok for the most part. Ill stick with other stuff for now…
5 points for the meme, 10 points for the feedback to folks.August 19, 2018 at 1:25 am #1254369Alright, so where were we? ah, that’s right… Weekendering…
@oriskany hope th lead-in to the BA boot camp isn’t too onerous for you. What flavour is your new lead mountain?.. Excellent point with regard to the advancement of technology being incremental and only a point in a continuity of scientific advances – something I hadn’t considered. No real way of knowing what follow-on discoveries would be generated form cloning. As a thought, if you could generate sufficiently sophisticated cloned/identical biological samples to undergo testing on, then you would have a perfect control group with which to test newly synthesised pharmaceuticals and identify any unintended effects. And am referring to those fighters exclusively as TIE jagers from now on 🙂
The nice thing about Sharp Practice is you only need about 50 models a side for a normal sized game, so once I have the core forces set up I can add more interesting bits and pieces like cavalry and artillery. Form there I can hopefully slow-grow for the next few decades and wind you with an army large enough for Black Powder. Well, at least that’s the plan…
@elessar2590 kicking off with the national anthem no less 🙂 Love that statue, such an expressive face 🙂 best of luck with the restoration project. Mahdist War minis are looking great so far.
@woldenspoons wow that’s quite a list of games to be actively participating in at any given time – I’d be worried that I’d start to merge rules systems accidentally 😛 I’m already somewhat renowned for trying to invoke rules from older editions of Warhammer… 😛 Love the narrative write-up 🙂 Some nice looking minis there too.
@biggabum yeah I’ve been playing a game for a few years now where each year I look at what was released 25 years ago… Wasn’t too bad when it was The Division Bell Or Appetite for Destruction but it is now 25 years since 1993 – Somewhat notable locally for the inception of the current version of Triple J’s Hottest 100 – a national music poll where people (ok, predominantly young people, as it is a youth radio network…) vote on their favourite songs from the year. So given that, it looks like it’s been 25 years since rage Against The Machine and Radiohead began to garner more widespread acclaim… OK, off to collapse in a self-pitying pile of feeling old for a bit….
…. And now I’m over it 😛 Wil post some songs from that years countdown later on as a but of a nostalgia run 🙂
Numbers on the counters were etched/burned into the MDF, so all I had to do was some colouring in 🙂 Great BatRep!! Hope it was as much fun to play 🙂
@tuffyears wow – it’s like that picture is my inner me 🙂 Well played.
@dawfydd some great looking conversions – you have me tempted to jump in on some space viking action 🙂 I’m assuming you are picking up the new codex shortly?
@sundancer really nice work on the SWL – can you post some close-up pics once finished?
@mage sorry for the semantics 😛 Just conscious that the word ‘advanced’ can have many meanings. to quote the immortal Douglas Adams:
“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much — the wheel, New York, wars and so on — whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man — for precisely the same reasons.”
So re Age of Sigmar, the faction books, and the forces of order/chaos etc are all optional? Is there a universal repository for the warscroll data etc then in the hard copy of the rulebook? Sorry I had assumed it was all scattered about in the supplements…Old Orcs weren’t any particular clan – I had themed them as part of Grimgor’s expedition into the chaos wastes which had become separated and fought their way north for a while before returning home, hence all the looted chaos iconography, armour and the mutations on the savage orcs. Was a good idea in theory but I could never really get the to work effectively on the tabletop.
Ogres look great – highlighting on the skin is just enough to give definition without having them lose the sinister. ono overtones that they had previously. Well done.
@limburger re loss of ‘normal’ skills, a lot of my friends do ‘craft’ styled hobbies (smithing, brewing, tanning, curing meats etc) so while the skills aren’t as widely utilised they haven’t quite been lost at this stage. The running joke is that these hobbies will all come in handy in the inevitable post zombie apocalypse world. Personally I’m just going to kill zombies rather than contribute anything of value 😛 Yes, cheap kill teams is a dangerous thing – it’s like a gateway drug leading to an army of space clowns…
Ok, off to be productive…
