@mage true enough with regard to Armageddon being an ongoing campaign and eventually having scope to include Primaris, but if I leave it that long then I’m going to need to house rule a Daemon kill team list 😉 And I’m saving all my demonic forces (wow, that sounds wrong… I mean that I’m holding off on painting my stockpiled miniatures, NOT invoking Cthulhu or anything…) for when Slaanesh comes back to the tabletop. Speaking of which, the new Beastmen tome could get me dragged into AoS – I still have a bunch of 6th ed Beastmenn models ready to go… Re Orktober I’m thinking an early thread might work to put it on the radar before the start of the month and to give people a chance to start putting up prep work etc and ht the ground running but happy to hear alternate points of view. Hop you are feeling better soon 🙂

1) RPGs, definitely a fan of the fantasy genre through many campaigns of D&D. I’m definitely a fan of the old roll&keep 7th Sea and Legend of the 5 Rings. I miss 2nd ed. Vampire the Masquerade as it really had great things going with their clans and it made me look at their other games before it all got nerfed. I’d like to get into Changeling: The Lost as it has sooooooo much potential for good gaming.
15 points, very interesting and well thought out. Know anything about minds eye theatre?
2) A good computer game to recommend… how about two series. First, is the Deus Ex franchise that really broke the mold in FPS style gaming that built a huge cyberpunk world and rewarded players more for cloak and dagger action. The second is the Alone in the Dark series. I can only speak to the quality of the first one in a 3rd person Lovecraftian puzzle heavy game. It definitely got my head in the right place as a young kid for the later introduction to Silent Hill.
I have one of those games, cant remember which. Lots of fun.
Never played alone in the dark, I know there was crap movie of it haha. I like lovecraft, hm, might be worth checking out. 10 points
3) Kitbash/convert-yep.. same thing. Speaking of cutting figures in half….. I’ve had this project on my shelf for a while but I took a pair of Reaper figures and began modding for a 1930s sideshow display. From the waist up Yvette, Magician’s Assistant by Bob Ridolfi (50125) and from the waist down Gretchen, Oktoberfest Fraulein by Werner Klocke (50118). I just recently saw a video on a potential way of sculpting curtains without too much fuss. The last time I tried I was quite upset at my sculpting skills.
Ah that’s what those female minis are.
4) Narrative play was interesting in Legend of the 5 Rings as it tied into the CCG tournaments. It turned out more like a living RPG storyline from tournament results. I did play a little into the 7th Sea narrative as the GM was a member of NOM (Novus Ordo Mundi) that was a group of GM s that submitted their campaign results to AEG.
Can you explain that in more detail, it sounds fascinating and I have no familiarisation or knowledge of said games. 10 points.
5) Not a bootcamp attendee… flights/lodging are pricey and time from work would mean I lose the roof over my cat and me.
Yeah it can be costly to travel far afield with anything. 5 points.
Internet connection is bad with the weather, I will check the music out later 😉 for now though, 50 points for it all, great effort!
September 19, 2018 at 1:14 pm #1270785It is, I think it got swarmed by daemons when the great rift opened and at times Imperials and Orks fought Daemons together out of convenience. I cant imagine orks going anywhere even after the warp storms abated.
Invoke Cthulhu!
Do it! Do AoS! Look at the awesome herdstone! You could use it for 40k too as a terrain piece!
Shall we do an early Orktober thread so? Will I set it up or you? Will we keep Armageddon separate?
Just resting. Might have a lie down soon and get up and eat and make a coffee later.
September 19, 2018 at 2:17 pm #1270815Minds Eye Theater is the LARP of White Wolf’s World of Darkness. Not my cup of tea outside of the VtM sessions I used to run in long ago. Honestly it gets too complicated to try and run different systems simultaneous. A werewolf says “I’m going to rip you in half” and makes his move to do so … Marauder mage tilts their head and says “Oh look, a walking fur rug. You really should be on the floor where rugs belong”… werewolf ends up lying on the floor flat angry but a little confused due to reality warping around them in the mages presence before mage admires the pelt in passing (a successful contest check for the mage). It only gets worse if you try and throw Changeling into the mix. Mage just has the spirit of human disbelief affect spells (if the effects are possible the spells go off) for Changelings the entirety of human banality is a literal destructive force.
Rel to the Alone in the Dark film… we do not speak of the Uwe “Toilet” Boll work. It was a piss poor recap of a crap remake game.
7th Sea is an alternate exploration age Europe setting with plenty of buckle swashing and magic elements. The mechanics draw from an 80s game Crimson Cutlass in the use of a tarot deck. 7S used the tarot for character creation while CC used it instead of a dice mechanic. It can be definitely narrative heavy if you want but does allow for action and dice rolling (the book is set up like an old Errol Flynn film if you look through it). It got rebooted into Wizards of the Coast rebranding of D&D 3.0 ‘s d20 series with Swashbuckling Adventures and then was reborn with a Kickstarter to be its own game again. The NOM element was the writers at AEG and a small group of GMs working in concert to create events in the world story.
Legend of the 5 Rings was also from Alderac Entertainment Group in the long long ago. It was a general Asian theme game that felt mostly based on medieval Japan with elements of China/Korea/Mongolia in it. It worked its general stories from the results of the CCG tournaments of L5R. The writers would put out supplements and say “due to such and such event this happened in the world” within certain expectations of card sets being put out as general narratives. Imagine if Magic the Gathering the RPG setting being put out now had future modules influenced by tournament play right now and various storylines were being written off of the finals.
Overall both were very fun games I’d say. I’m glad for the reboots for both and I look forward to the Minicrate deliveries for L5R like I get for Privateer Press games. I really regret tossing the Heros of the Dragon box set now that I see the first model is Togashi Yokuni. He was a huge chunk of metal in the original sculpt.
September 19, 2018 at 6:50 pm #1270946I need to remember that ‘toilet boll’ … that guy managed to wreck soo many potential good gaming IP’s by turning them into terrible movies. It ought to be a hanging offense.
Anyone know if he’s still butchering movies ? Then again … it may be like Beetlejuice and using his name too many times might bring him back. *eep*
btw : wouldn’t paradox kill the mage doing such an outrageous spell ? And isn’t there some sort of terror check associated with seeing a werewolf ?
I also think that White Wolf made a mistake by joining all those weirdos in a single setting in the pen&paper variant. Too many exceptions needed to make such a game fun IMHO. Although I must confess that I kind of liked the idea of a mixed vampire/werewolf/mage group …@mage : the kale + mashed potatoes needs a good amount of mustard and gravy to taste like anything too.
Get well soon. And cast some good weather spells. An early orktober thread is a good idea, because the bootcamp stuff might bury it a bit before it gets going for real.
Heck, I hope I don’t suffer any illness from the flight like after the previous bootcamp. That wasn’t fun at all.

Oh, I know it is, it interests me though! Maybe just one genre and not mix furries and fangers?
We shall gloss over the bowl so.
7th Sea sounds really interesting. Have wizards done anything with it lately?
I recall people talking about that game in a local stores on and off over the years. The years I played there regularly that is. It was huge in my area in the early to mid 2000s. Did they ever do minis?
FFG took over it? Tell me more about the minicrate deliveries
@limburger <15 points>
Gravy maybe, mustard? Pleh! Blarg! Bleh!
Early Orktober thread it is. I shall craft one tonight. You might keep an eye out for it (but don’t like, you know, waste your time waiting all evening) and tell me what you think. Or I could PM you and others a draft should they be interested in same. I think maybe some of us should have ideas and ‘pledges’ ready for it and maybe some pictures of what they want to do or what they have.
Ill go to bed, not necessarily sleep soon. Taking tablets and a cough bottle. Doctor told me the antibiotic wouldn’t do anything for like three days for some reason.
September 19, 2018 at 9:42 pm #1270993September 19, 2018 at 10:00 pm #1271004@mage 7th: the original creator of the rpg bought back the rights for it a few years ago and kickstarted the newest rdition of the game with huge success. The game and some supplements are out and at least in my opinion the game is a lot of fun.
With Legend of the Five Rings, FFG released their own version of the card game as one of their LCGs. It,s different than the original version but a lot of fun too. And organized play events and the player base are still able to effect tvd story, just mot as strong or drastic as in the past any more. Regarding the RPG, an introductory behinners box set came out recently with an adventure and some of the rules and premade characters. I’m still reading my copy of it, but what i’ve seen so far i like a lot. The full core book should come out a bit later this year.
September 19, 2018 at 11:06 pm #1271019@mage if throwing up a thread early can I suggest you give it a double header/title of Orctober/Orktober? Might help to avoid alienating the non-40k community members. 🙂 And @limburger makes a good point re the bootcamp. early start might also allow people to get on board if they have a busy month in October. Let me know when the thread is up and I can jump in with some posts/pledges etc to get the ball rolling on content 🙂 Armageddon might be a nice spin-off thread post Orktober? 3 days does not sound like fun. Sorry but I am not a very good patient and lose my sense of humor with being unwell around the 10 hour mark – so I hope you are wiser than I and let yourself recover properly 🙂 So no kite flying for a few days! 😉
@horati0nosebl0wer @querion I backed the 7th seas campaign but haven’t checked out the content (so many books!) My plan was to wait until everything was finished then download them all at once. The world does seel immersive, and for a historical fantasy setting, quite realistic and believable. I’m sure that many pirate themed skirmish games will be inspired once I get going 🙂
@limburger that Beetlejuice comment made me laugh 🙂 Hope you travel well this time round.
@sundancer I’m guessing this is adding effects to your tower – can you rebuild it? Make it stronger better faster? Rework is always frustrating but my understanding is that it can often lead to more efficient solutions – which could be handy if you were going to automate Mos Eisley or similar… Best of luck, genuinely hope you can resolve the issue 🙂
September 20, 2018 at 1:06 am #1271045@evilstu Yes, the world is pretty big. With AEG and WoTC both adding content to the world beyond an alternate Europe/MidEast and hints or Asia it will offer quite a bit to play with. I’m still stuck on the release from Wizkids for their Falling Star ship to play on in scale. This means that I will need to put off buying figures from Mierce for a bit.
@mage thre were minis done way back when AEG had the rights. I still have some Vodacce (the nation inspired by Italy) characters floating about my collection.
@querion As long as I can unleash martial arts skills with Togashi monks and break people’s brain with the Tao of Shinsei I’ll be happy. Then again a Mirumoto bushi might be cool.
Oh oh, thinking of pledges I think I’ll be putting in for Aeon Trespass’s 2nd Kickstarter Eschaton. So much cash for huuuuge figures. Hekaton looks like the Helping Hands from the film Labyrinth got out and went crazy. I’ve been drooling over the madness of Alpha Temenos. It reminds me of the maw that consumes you in Alone In the Dark (original pc game) when you screw up one of the puzzles.
September 20, 2018 at 1:11 am #1271046Havent forgot you guys. Finished a bunch of hobby and will post it tomorrow and post up the Orktober thread too. Need to head to sleep.
I finished two d and d characters, objectives for AoS and started work on an Ork Killer Kan (mini dreadnought).
Ill call the thread to a close two pm tomorrow, but feel free to keep posting.
Also, I might ask someone to volunteer to host as I have my son visiting.
September 20, 2018 at 2:11 am #1271060@mage can host this week. Happy to kick off proceedings early if you need some recovery time and want to close the current thread earlier – let me know 🙂
September 20, 2018 at 7:12 am #1271081I know how you all love an in progress shot so here is my current state of my kill team stuff.
September 20, 2018 at 7:13 am #1271082@evilstu I missread the description of the audio player… I thought it had an integrated amplifier so that I can use a simple unpowered speaker but I was wrong. Now I need to get a little amplifier XD
September 20, 2018 at 10:03 am #1271137OK, progress for today. managed to cut myself with a hobby knife (not deep) then punched a hole in the skin on my hand pulling a print job off the heatbed on the 3d printer. Sigh, feeling like a n00b today… 😛 In slightly better news:
Components form Spellcrow arrived. 2 packs of heads with berets and 2 packs of heads with goggles. Also a pack of running orc legs and a freebie pack of orc torsos which was very nice of them 🙂 Goggles will go on the drivers for my Long range Dakka Group and the berets and legs will go on some converted/kitbashed Kommandos as the online store is strangely sold out since the release of Kill Team (note: this is nature’s way of suggesting that this is a unit with good tabletop stats in game 😉 )
Also got my Salamander kill team assembled, primed and rattlecan zenithed. Still can’t find my pin vice to finish off the gun barrels so might need to buy another – hate not having the barrels drilled out… Given it was Salamanders I went for a flamer special weapon and a combi-flamer on the Sergeant.
Also assembled and primed a squadron of French Dragoons for Sharp Practice. I love this kit. It comes with mounted and dismounted Dragoons, a commander, options for musician and half a dozen casualty figures. Amazed at how much was crammed into this box 🙂 (note that I only assembled what I needed for the unti, there was still more on the sprues).
Finally saw a kickstarter for a 3d printed space station/outpost. wasn’t sure but thought I would give the freebie test piece a go and see how it looked. This was just a low res speedprint:
…So naturally now I am thinking of backing and doing a space hulk table…
OK, going to grab dinner then add some block colours to foot knights in front of the TV 🙂 Hope everyone is having a great day 🙂
@woldenspoons That looks like a small mountain of parts! Well done on getting it all assembled and primed, so you’re halfway there? Seriously, a couple of tubes of cheap poster paint and a cheap large flat brush and/or a hardware store rattlecan and you will be up to tabletop in no time. Of course you realise we will now demand progress pics 😉
@sundancer ah i see. Hope there is space for it all inside the piece. Or will you add a separate power generator nearby to house the components?
