I promised some comments, so let’s see what i’ll get done 😉
@sundancer that giant turbo laser tower looks epic, great work there!
@limburger i still need to build something for that drum to stand on. and i plan to make it so that it could be mounted on an ork truck or stand alone as some sort of terrain piece. oh and the stand for the drum will look far more like it was build from every scrap they could find. i wanted the Drum, as a sort of totem to Gork and Mork, to look a little bit more cleaner, at least the upper part, on the bottom it is not as clean. I’ll take some pictures of it tomorrow. And sadly my camera doesn’t really catch the color shift from the brigther top to the darker bottom. I’ll need to try to take some better pictures for this too.
@evilstu yeah FASA was great in that regard and we hade some games where we started with mechwarrior and moved into battletech when it was fitting for the situation. and i loved to read the old novells for BT. And now that is a nice idea for the drum: fill it was waaagh! energy and let it roll into the enemy lines as a giant bomb 😉
@mage that orcish … well … headthingy looks awesome! and i love the blood effect in the coffin … and a vampire coming out of it …you totally should do it in that situation!
oh and as a note on your reply for page 1: yeah i’m really passionate about RPGs and if i’m not carefull i can talk about them for hours and hours without a break 😉
The green is suppossed to be energy building up in the drum and seeping out of it. I tried to add a bit of a lightning-effect between the lines, but with that it was to much so i scraped that idea.
September 18, 2018 at 1:54 am #1269839A little progress this weekend . Got the shell damage on the turret sorted and finally got around to adding all the dot cammo
I’ve also removed the lower legs on my Space Marine, added boots from the parts box , and “think” he might end up being some kind of heavy cavalry trooper if I can rework his arms . Now the question is – does he ride a horse or a Unicorn suitably modified with power pack saddle bags and a laser cannon instead of a horn ?
September 18, 2018 at 6:07 am #1269857@a27cromwell Space Marines riding unicorns. It’s why I love this thread! Are you sure it isn’t just a pony they have painted?
@sundancer cheers for that, lots of good ideas there. Loving the tower. Nice for Legion stuff having ‘clean’ paint schemes. Really sets it apart from things based in the Grimdark.
@lloyd I’m not sure if I haven’t used my free trial, I’ve been here long enough ?. Also #bringbacklloyd. The fight continues.
@biggabum seems to be having a break. Shame, we all like reading the adventures of Pudding Vs Batman.
@mage it’s fun seeing how impatient you are for Orktober. Make sure you save some hobby for then. I recently sold my Ork army and everything else I have is chaos or Necrons so I’m struggling to think how to get involved.
@querion Who doesn’t love giant stompy robots? I think I played the roleplaying game some time ago, I am still obsessed with Cranston Snord’s Irregulars.
September 18, 2018 at 6:12 am #1269868@mage 5 hours is just the flight. I need a 1 hour drive to get to the airport. Time X to check in. And that’s only if I can afford the fastest route. Else it’s in the higher 10 hour marks. nothing for someone with a 48 hour weekend 😉
September 18, 2018 at 7:20 am #1269874@sundancer and then there is the trip home
@woldenspoons I’d say Ive the average patient of an Ork for it. Ill have hobby left for then. Plenty of Killer Kans and Deff Dreads to paint too. Do you have any orks/orks/goblins for other games like shadespire, lord of the rings, arcworlde, d&d? Maybe pick up a mini to paint for just painting? Ebay? Mordheim? Bloodbowl?
That is the head off a Stompa:
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-IE/Ork-Stompa
I could use it for D&D as well as a multiplayer AoS game, hehehehe…
Talk away man. My RPG group has been playing more than a year now at this stage, maybe longer. Some of the players are still kinda new and immersion is a bit of a problem at times.
I thought it was energy alright, it looks good!
I think the unicorn might be able to bare his weight better but he looks more imposing on the regular horse. Tough call.
September 18, 2018 at 12:57 pm #1270059I may or may not have just ordered a few electronic parts to make something go pew pew… I will bring this up again if I succeed.. if I fail I’ll deny everything!
How is your day everybody?
September 18, 2018 at 2:03 pm #1270091@sundancer day has gone smashingly well thank you for asking 🙂 I need to touch up my 95th rifles following a dip and matt varnish and then I will have 2 forces tabletop ready for Sharp Practice. Naturally I am already planning additions 🙂 Looking forward to seeing how the electronics integrate. That has always been something that is on my ‘to do’ list to learn. I think having integrated infinity mirrors, smoke machines and lighting effects in a table would be incredibly atmospheric.
@querion Waagh bomb? I like the idea 🙂 instant narrative effect for why whoever is up against the greenskins wants to stop them in a hurry.
@a27cromwell dot camo looks really good. Appreciate the patience and dedication you have to the piece to achieve something like that. Re the Space Marine the volume on the unicorn seems much more appropriate than the horse, but if you are putting a space marine on a unicorn then I would be tempted to give him a rainbow launcher as a weapon or something similarly nonsensical. Not sure I would replace the horn with a laser but a partial cybernetic conversion might help to tie the themes together without anyone suggesting Hello Kitty marines or similar?
@woldenspoons @mage pretty much every gaming company does some sort of orc variant. Reaper bones are dirt cheap if you can get your hands on them and the pathfinder and D&D pre-primed minis form wizkids seem to have reasonable availability. Or convert some random second hand ebay orcs to look like poxwalkers maybe? Could be an interesting project opportunity?
@limburger main difference between an evil campaign and a normal game of ‘murderhobos’ in my experience is that in an evil themed D&D campaign players feel entitled to steal from one another as well as the general populace. Plus it does present a nice opportunity to play classes and races not normally available to players. From a more serious gaming perspective there is a nice dynamic of having to hide from good or lawful forces who may legitimately rule and patrol an area while simultaneously trying to manage factional requirements to appease whichever evil overlords are presently scheming for power while simultaneously trying to further the characters own agenda. It can actually be pretty fun with the right sort of group 🙂
Will try and get my 95th rifles tidies up tomorrow and take some pics of both completed armies. Then need to decide what to do next. Probably Space Marine kill teams so that my Orks will have something to shoot at. Although the appeal of quickly smashing out some cavalry and artillery for Sharp Practice is pretty strong…
September 18, 2018 at 4:36 pm #1270214and i put in some more work into the drum:
i hope with theese pictures it shows the color transition from the top to the bottom a bit more, and the bottom is more scrap holding it all together in an orcish way ^^
and here are the sides of the drum, i wanted to make them look like leather and the middle more worn from all the hits it took there. i’m unsure if i really like the effect or if i should touch it up a bit more. andy ideas for that are very welcome.
Now i’ll start working on the stand for the drum
September 18, 2018 at 7:38 pm #1270328@sundancer (5 points)
I like pew pew. 5 points, because why not. Pew pew!
I woke up later than I should, nearly missed my friend, didn’t talk much with a sore throat and helped him paint his Star Wars Legion rebel army. One more evening and the two infantry squads should be done.
Cool suggestion @evilstu (5 points)
OrkWalkers anyone?
@querion (20 points)
The drum is really coming along well!

Taking a bit of break from the hobby now. Still havent gotten a photo done of Mikes minis for SWL and Im feeling a bit weak. Gonna get some takeout for comfort food and chill out watching and hobbying. Gonna finish my AoS Objective markers soon.
September 18, 2018 at 7:42 pm #1270346I want something unehalty, with meat, and sauce. Hmmmm
I need to take pics of minis too. Gents, I shall be back!
September 18, 2018 at 8:54 pm #1270367@mage : if it were me I’d go for mashed potatoes & kale + smoked sausage … but then that’s not unhealthy as it has green in it.
Google tells me it is called ‘colcannon’ in Ireland (ingredients look fairly similar), but it doesn’t list the sausage + lots of gravy.
I think I’ve mentioned that traditional Dutch winter dish before in another weekender thread.
Zombicide:Green Horde has Ork walkers … so I definitely have some green dudes to paint, but I kind of want that buggy too.
Decisions … decisions … must check against something.//
@sundancer : pew pew is always good … in ancient times one would have used a NE 555 timer chip , but with things like arduino and related dirt cheap programmable chips there’s more fun to be had with less of the tweaking.
Kids don’t know how good they’ve got it.
/grandpa mode off

@querion : I can see the colour transition now. Good work on that ‘skin’ too.
Here’s a reference picture :
Note how the skin is lighter in the middle, which is sort of what you’ve got too right ?
September 18, 2018 at 9:12 pm #1270368@limburger who do you call a kid? 😉 I started trying to get a signal into my C64 by using an old joystick cable,
lustre terminal and hair pins for a “card reader” and cut out cardboard with tin foil 😉September 18, 2018 at 9:19 pm #1270371@sundancer : certainly not you dear sir 😀
Good ol’ C64 … it was like a wood stove, because you had to poke a lot just to keep it going 😉
September 18, 2018 at 9:36 pm #1270373@sundancer and @limburger Ah i loved the c64… it was my entry point into gaming… well as a child. My father had one and i have a ton of fond memories of the “brotkasten” (bread box, thats what the c64 was called in germany). Anf to this day i’m grinning as soon as i hear those SID-tunes. And i don’t know how many joysticks i killed playing summer games ….
@mage imersion will come with time. My current group and i are playing for 10 years now and there are sessions where we don’t roll a single die because everyone is just interacting with each other and the npcs. Makes it easy for me because i’m GM most of the time. But not allways and that is nice.
September 18, 2018 at 11:18 pm #1270440Colcannon, kinda. You have to understand that traditionally Irish food is quite brand. Id say coddle might be closer, but it would still be different enough to what you might be used to at home.
I hope so.
