Great video limburger . Lots of early T-26s and those fast BT-5s . Love all those T-34s with tank riders . Hmm , white T-34s stacked with tank riders in winter cammo suits . I really need to build a couple of those . ..
Right then , where did we park ?
September 15, 2018 at 10:20 pm #1268276@mage : some would say ‘too many’ … There simply is soo much cool stuff to see. I can’t seem to limit myself to just one system/game. There isn’t any real grind. Everything unlocks at a fair pace. The only ‘annoying’ thing is that some gadgets got unlocked before I got the ability to pay for them.
Example being the spider bots. I had reached the character level to use it, before I got to the story mission that unlocked the challenges which generated the tokens needed to build and equip. It’s not bad though. Just a teensy bit annoying.
I should mention I’m playing at ‘easy’ difficulty setting. I probably should focus on the story a bit more, but the web swinging is soo much fun.
Orktober sounds like a fun idea when you mentioned it in that thread. Definitely going to look for orky stuff. Not that I need any as I’ve got plenty of zombie orks to paint. The video for the Ork buggy and the ork racing game did make me want them though. I’ll have to survive bootcamp first though 😀
If you get a chance to play H:ZD then give it a shot. Hunting robot dinosaurs was fun.
The fact that the game was made by a Dutch studio called ‘Guerrilla Games’ gives it bonus points 😉@querion : now that is a huge wardrum.
I’d say mount it on an Ork Truck … kind of like Mad Max:Fury road had with that guitar dude.
@sundancer : is that thing going to shoot too ?
Or at least have some flashy lights ? I seem to recall something about an Arduino being mentioned in relation with this project.
classic rock isn’t dead … “greta von fleet” … at first I thought it was a female artist, but it’s a band like the Darkness.
Remember them ?
September 15, 2018 at 10:44 pm #1268292Funny you mention Greta , I just saw them Wednesday night with opening band Dorothy in Calgary . Fantastic show , that kid can hit all those notes live , awesome vocal range . And his brothers are not too shabby on guitar and bass . Think these kids will go far , the new tunes they played sounded great , IRC the album will be out mid October
September 16, 2018 at 1:42 am #1268405OK, had a few hours sleep so now a little more coherent and playing catch-up on the thread.
@a27cromwell nice work on those Russian cav conversions 😉 very nice feel to the colouring on the horses. It’s nice that you went to the effort of correcting the scale on the T-34 turret. I don’t think I would have noticed on the finished tank until someone had pointed it out but once you see the turrets side by side the initial one does look quite undercooked. Curious to see how the marine turns out.
@woldenspoons what are your thoughts on the Rogue trader scenery? I have some of the Mantic equivalent and was toying with the idea of using it and doing up a space hulk type layout for Kill Team (because clearly I need more terrain projects… ;-/ ) For a failed pledge that sounds really successful 🙂 Looking forward to hearing about the campaign!
@mage nice work on the D&D minis. are you tempted to try anything with the translucent parts on the minis? I haven’t been game to attempt yet. A nice mix of projects you have going on at the moment 🙂
@elessar2590 personally looking forward to getting stuck into some Sharp Practice so will follow your campaigns with some interest 🙂 Really liking the look of the rules set and the fact it can be applied to so many theatres/periods. I like the idea of the total war games but I personally don’t find the unit interface and movement controls particularly intuitive with the one game in the series I own (Total war Warhammer) – guess I just need more practice. having said that it is really nice to have political and economic spheres directly integrated into a war game.
@querion I remember mechwarrior 🙂 Nice nostalgia hit there. it was good in that it integrated into the main Battletech game seamlessly- that was one thing that Fasa did well actually, all the games could act a bolt-on supplements for one another effectively. Wow, that drum is massive – the greenskins should put stocks in front of it which can be removed as a last resort to roll the drum across the table as a terror weapon to break enemy lines 🙂
@sundancer nice progress on Solo and the rebels. Enjoying seeing how the SWL is coming along. Nice progress on the terrain too! I like the rivets on the sides of the tower. Does a great job of breaking up the look of the surface 🙂
@irishsteve hope you are settling back in OK 🙂 Best of luck playing around with the airbrush. Do you have all the stuff to clean it on hand and ready to go? When I started I found I was spending 3 times longer cleaning it than actually using it…
@limburger do you have a kill team decided on to play? Or are you enjoying going through the lists etc for now? Not sure if a RPG bootcamp could be possible but the idea of an interactive live stream event could maybe work? your D&D character sounds fun 🙂 My favorite character was a Human Dread necromancer. I’m sure that she and Arnold would have gotten along splendidly together 😛
September 16, 2018 at 1:44 am #1268406Spent yesterday having a social hobby day. My friend was mucking about with his airbrush and I made some incremental progress on my historicals, and army painter varnished a bunch of stuff. Going to go and see how that looks now and maybe get some extra bits and pieces primed. so not a super-productive weekend so far but has been relaxing 🙂
September 16, 2018 at 6:03 am #1268508Very slow progress this weekend although I did get a few Lord of the rings games in yesterday. Only one picture came out well though which was disappointing. My Abrakhan Guard vs a friends Gondorians.
@evilstu I’m not a fan of Warhammer Total War. The Total War games really shine in the Black Powder Era where it’s less chaotic and more straightforward. No need to worry about flying units or magic just keeping your line intact and when to unleash your Cavalry.
My Sudanese for the pledge with half the Skin painted.
@sundancer that tower is coming along nicely
@mage that Wizard looks brilliant. The Rohan inspired armour is also looking great.
Some music for your weekend
September 16, 2018 at 9:17 am #1268643Some progress today – touched up the white facings on my redcoats a little, made some more progress on the base colours for my 95th rifles, Got a matt varnish coat on my French and skaven and assembled and primed a bunch of newly procured metal bits – a British gun, French howitzer, French mounted commanders and engineers. Heading out to dinner so will take photos later.
@elessar2590 a nice start on your Sudanese force 🙂 Glad you managed to get a couple of games in. Best we can usually manage is 4 or so turns of one game – too much joviality, not enough dice rolling on our parts 😉
September 16, 2018 at 11:52 am #1268817@evilstu thanks got all the skin painted now onto the weapons, although i think I’ll leave that until tomorrow.
September 16, 2018 at 12:04 pm #1268830@elessar2590 yeah fair point painting in declining light always seems like unnecessarily hard work to me…
Photos from this weekends progress:
French and Skaven minis following a matt varnish over the army painter dip. Will take better photos once they are based.
Partial assembly and priming form today. Additionally, not shown got another half dozen French minis (2 fusiliers, 2 drummers and 2 standard bearers) done so I don’t need to store the empty boxes anymore 🙂
Retouched redcoats ready for baseing
And progress on the 95th, who still need a lot of work.
Once the rifles are done and the above are based I should have enough for some reasonably sized games of Sharp Practice. I can then add to it with the extra bits I have primed, and then I have a unit of dragoons for both sides to add, which should hopefully add some tactical options. After that, most of the extra stuff I have on hand seems to be for the French (through happenstance rather than design) so might need to look at some other options for the British or an allied contingent if I want a change of pace…Plan is to slow grow Sharp Practice forces up to a sufficient scale to play Black Powder in a few years 🙂
September 16, 2018 at 12:25 pm #1268864@evilstu I seriously doubt Arnold would have allowed that bloody necromancer to live … :-p
Definitely not a good team.
Anyways … I haven’t decided on a killteam yet. Part of the reason why I want an app for that (plus it gets me back to coding for fun and I needed that).
I probably will make a list for spacemarines, because I need to get that force painted somehow.
Harlequins look tempting.
Both the Ork and Spacewolf killteam boxes looked interesting, so they are definitely on my ‘to buy’ list. The latter also would allow me to add reivers to my spacemarine army. And then … *eh*Let’s just say that the one thing Killteam does is allow for small viable teams of various factions to be created with minimal effort. Unlike 40k itself where armies are too big to be fun as an experiment (Imperial Guard, Orks) or just feel wrong (Harlequins).
I can see myself assembling and painting a team for lot of the factions eventually (I doubt I do all chaos spacemarine variants).September 16, 2018 at 12:32 pm #1268875Or at least have some flashy lights ? I seem to recall something about an Arduino being mentioned in relation with this project.
@limburger I’m still looking for options. most things I found are too bulky or impractical for little “mobile” terrain piece.
Nice progress on the terrain too! I like the rivets on the sides of the tower. Does a great job of breaking up the look of the surface ?
@evilstu they nearly broke me… 140 of the buggers are really a test of patience 😉
that tower is coming along nicely
@elessar259 thank you. The base for it is also almost finished. see below
And now I’m off from the PC. My wife got herself a copy of “Legends of Andor“. Seems easy enough to get our daughter into it… maybe… we will see 😉

@evilstu Covenant, Norther Lights seems very 1990s dance trance. 5 points.
Sadly none of the music floats my boat, but 10 points all the same.
1) 15 points, lots of fun stuff listed out and you seem quite passionate about them too.
2) 10 points, lots of interesting suggestions.
3) Ok.
4.) 5 points.
5.) Me too. 10 points.
15 points for the pledge. 15 points for the feedback and replies to others.
All of my music choices were from movies, too.
@sundancer sure, 10 points. Looks good so far.

@querion Very cool concept, I like it
@sundancer It is coming along nicely

Onto page 3. Coming down with a stupid headcold…
September 16, 2018 at 2:30 pm #1268929@evilstu It’s all very hard wearing and nicely detailed. The board is exceptional. I still can’t wait to turn it into my Walking Dead warehouse.
Saying that, most of the terrain, especially in the ship is made by the walls. A few spots of other scatter terrain, like barrels, boxes etc would work quite well.
The Gellerpox are fabulous figures and I look forward to painting them. Making sure they match my Deathguard and demons of course.
You wanted pictures? YOU WANTED PICTURES? I got your pictures right here.
Now I need to find someone selling the rogue trader book at a price I will pay. Wish me luck!
September 16, 2018 at 2:40 pm #1268940September 16, 2018 at 3:06 pm #1268949@sundancer I poured in a buttload of GW Blood for the Blood God technical paint. That was last night and still drying. It hasn’t ‘cured’ yet.
@woldenspoons <25 points>
25 points for the pictures. They look excellent.
