    We need an intervention here!

@limburger no worries mate… if you don’t like it, it only means one thing: more for the rest of us! HUZZA! 😉

@sundancer no worries mate, besides I’m no fun with alcohol anyways so it’s better for all of us.

1st attempt at using contrast paint (Gryphound orange) on a mini I had primed in uniform gray.

    The good :

    • good coverage with a single coat of paint, much better than the lava orange from army painter

    The bad :

    • it looks ‘brown’ instead of orange, but that’s due to the uniform gray undercoat.
It is however more ‘orange’ than the fur brown in the army painter range
    • it doesn’t show ‘contrast’, but I suspect it was because (1) my brush was too small and (2) I didn’t have a smooth undercoat

Note : first photo is contrast only. second photo shows a group shot with a ‘completed’ version using army painter and one with a single base coat of lava orange.

The contrast paint does look more orange in the photo.

    Lessons learned :

    • I may need a bigger brush (biggest one is ‘army painter regimental size’)
    • definitely undercoat in white or a bright colour

Good morning everyone. Welcome to Tuesday.

@limburger nice short comparison. I’m seeing test of the contrasts paint pop up left, right and centre and most of them feel like “yeah, they are nice but nothing ground breaking” Plus they are the most expensive to the litre (according to TWS, video below)

    Now, of to being productive!

@sundancer I never expected them to be magical paints that turned me into a competent painter myself.

Heck, based on the data I had I should have expected a dark orange tone as I did have a dark gray base.
I do have one of the ‘special’ Contrast primers and a few more colours, so I can test the results after following the ‘official’ instructions.

And as for cost … the moment they do the job of two paints (which has been shown to work) I’d argue that they are cheaper.

The only bad thing is the flockin’ pots don’t close properly. GW really should switch to dropper bottles or something that has a lid that can close without a lot of effort.

Hi guys, just wanted to drop in let you all know I’m out of hospital and back at home – surgery went great, just waiting for a few niggling side effects to pass. Downside is not really fit to try any painting, but working on kits is helping get my fine motor control back 🙂

    And to @mage ‘s questions:
    1) Crossovers can add some fun spice to games. The aforementioned Zombicide/Massive Darkness ones are a nice bit of brand synergy, but CMON have done some neat things with the idea of their Special Guest boxes where some of the artists have used it as a chance to bring in creations from their own setting (the Carl Critchlow box in particular springs to mind), but they can be quite fun when teams do it as a bit of cross-promotion (thinking of Kingdom Death and how there have been versions of the Twilight Knight for a few game systems, normally as kickstarter exclusives).

    2) Con exclusives are cool, but I think more companies could do with making them available online during the course of the event – I can appreciate how for attendees it might impact the exclusivity, but equally they get the benefit of instant gratification whilst those who can’t attend have to wait.

Thankfully I’ve at least been able to shower since this picture was taken, so the hair is not quite so crazed….
