Very quick, Also for anyone interested…
Do you like Jim Henson? Do you like computer games? Do you like tactics games? Are you fond of the Dark Crystal?
June 16, 2019 at 6:29 pm #1405371Hi All
So fathers day is behind me and I got another pass from Andrea (bless her wee heart lol) to come and do some hobby in peace and quiet.
So last night I actually got all the minis to that ‘ok for me’ phase so everything has a few details picked out and a soft tone wash over the top.
I have moved on to basing and seeing if I can lift the basic basing scheme I started with (phase 1) without having to undo any of that work.
so far so good…
that’s before
and here is after
I’m also trying a cheat on the tanks by using foliage to be able to skip a couple of painting steps there as well.
Ultimately while I have only me to please the whole point of working out this phased approach is so I can find a way to fire up a fow hobby faster and give good games with decent looking minis early on as I think those on the hobby journey with me will appreciate that more than facing a bear plastic army week in week out 🙂
June 16, 2019 at 6:54 pm #1405374@warzan Bases and tanks look great. I have to say, the bootcamp did really get me interested in FoW much more than I was before…shame I had to put myself on a spending ban for the next little while… It is making me want to get more of my Bolt Action done, though, so there’s still pluses there!
I might try and jump ahead with my Inceptors, next. I currently have 24 power, or 380ish points, of painted minis done for my Ultramarines, so that shelf in my cabinet is looking a little less grey now. Still lots to do, though. I still have ten Grenadiers to build…and 4 Hellblasters… Much to do, but lots of other stuff getting in the way. Same old story. 😛 Long story short, I MAY post some pics of Inceptors at some point.
June 16, 2019 at 6:54 pm #1405375So that’s that phase complete
Now I have two more small additions I want to try.
1) Working some way of identifying the squads quickly without resorting to labels etc… I’m gonna have a week coffee and a think
2) A quick play with some pigment powders as an optional step to see what effect it has.
June 16, 2019 at 6:55 pm #1405376As I wait for the spuds to boil, I’ll have a proper nose at what everyone has been up to…
@woldenspoons I do like that Rammstein song. That is a lot of models to get through but the contrast paint seems to be helping you power through!
@limburger I’m always looking at what other hobbies are up to especially if it can save me a few pounds. The shaker does a fairly decent job but I do have to give it a bit of a shake in an up and down motion as well to begin with.
@tuffyears your silver tower stuff looks really good! I must get round to painting mine! How is the FoW sorting going?
@crazyredcoat The medicman is looking good, even for one of Papa Smurf’s minions!
@biggabum good to see you again. Game looks good, commiserations in defeat and having to pay for McDonalds! Well done, Matty!
@horati0nosebl0wer are you blowing stuff up yet?
@warzan ze Germans are looking well. Don’t forget to put the top back on your glue though.
@mage China, eBay, 1/48 scale plane. Longer answer to SunnyD is on page 2!
Apologises if I missed anyone or anything.
Happy Fathers Day to all you dad’s out there, and a wee mention to anyone like me missing their Pops today.
June 16, 2019 at 7:14 pm #1405377June 16, 2019 at 7:20 pm #1405379The pigment powders are subtle but add a nice finishing touch to the muzzles and tracks wheels etc
also adds some interesting shading to the ground texture
June 16, 2019 at 7:39 pm #1405381So yeah the pigment is a really interesting way to shade the turf on the bases to mark worn paths or those areas near bushes that are a little darker

June 16, 2019 at 8:50 pm #1405401@mage I know I ain’t getting no Shakespeare, but even ‘bad movies’ can be good.
I think they forgot what made the classic 80’s action movies work.
John Wyck was sooo much better despite the plot making zero sense, because the world building and action was damn near perfect. The Expendables relied a little too much on people recognizing the actors from the golden era of action B-movies.
That kind of worked in the first one, but I can’t say I wanted to see the sequels. And a movie is bad/boring when even I start to notice bad trigger discipline …
/me shall go paint stuff soon … must eat and sleep now. Oh … and watch Alien in between commercial breaks.
June 16, 2019 at 9:05 pm #1405406In the words of @sundancer it is now time for some coffee
