    @crazyredcoat He’s looking good. Very crisp white. Which chapter are you doing?

    @warzan Flames of War is one of those games that always looks sooo tempting to me and is actually played locally. Must. Resist.

    I’ll try to post pictures of my Thule Society soldiers tomorrow. Looking forward to getting some Black Templar contrast on them next.

    Hey guys, yup i’m still alive. Actually been suffering from a little hobby burnout for the past few months (serves me right for attempting to paint all my christmas stuff in one go) so have been giving a few of my other hobbies a little love. Well finally got back to it today with a small game of Bolt Action  and thats my belated pledge.

    Quickly on to the questions before i post the pics from the game.

    1) I really dont know it’s not something i’ve come accross personally (I dont get out much). I suppose if the games are set in the same universe and time period within that universe I don’t see why characters couldnt cross between games. On the other hand I couldnt see a crossover working with Rick grimes from the Walking Dead Board game making an appearance in the Resident Evil 2 board game. Then again I’m a strong believer in doing what you want with your hobby to make it fun so really it’s down to the individuals involved as to what they want to try for a laugh. (ouch got a splinter from this fence i’m sitting on).

    2) Mmmm. It’s ok for the guys who can get to conventions but some of us cant and the only way we can get these Mini’s is by going on ebay and then you end up paying silly £ for them. I think I would prefer it if the “Exclusive Mini” was something like a pre-release, perhaps getting it 12 months earlier than it going to retail. After all, theres no way for the guys selling the exclusives to know if the guy buying the mini actually collects thier stuff or is just out to make a quick buck.

    3) Uhhhm yeah a bit. With Matty being Autistic his tactics can be a little errrm… unconventional…. and he’s not very  co-operatative either, which can prove a bit annoying when you think you’ve made that game changing move and just need a little help from one of Matty’s units only to watch it head off on some random mission only Matty knows about.

    So this afternoon we played a game of Bolt Action. My british Airborne vs Matty’s Fallshirmjager. It was a hard fought game, with me taking a commanding position pretty early. That was until Matty landed an artillary shot on my 17 pounder killing the crew and took out my PIAT team, leaving me nothing to deal with his Armour. He had a relatively easy time after this with his sniper, MG42 and Panzer IV making a huge dent in my Para’s. In the end Matty had pulled off a well deserved victory…which cost me a Big Mac.

    Not dead but still alive in the hinterlands of America.

    Crossovers in minis games I think have worked somewhat in relation to Kingsom Death. There have been the Zombiecide and Soda Pop figures thrown in fornextras to purchase here and there. I’ve not seen anything else of note otherwise with regard to figures. In gaming outside of that I was a sucker when it came to the World of Tanks promo for the Pz IV H with out the derp gun of the brown skin and anglerfish icon. Yes, it was my favorite and remains the same outside of the ambush pattern camo for the tank in game. I have seen World of Warships promote using the Azur Lane IP which might do the same. Maybe if I got into Flames of War a certain company of tanks could be painted up as the Ooarai Girls Academy team.

    Convention exclusive minis are a pain for collection. Unless you go or know someone who is going they’re out of your reach. Privateer Press and Wyrd redeem themselves on this point for their sales later on where there have been opportunities for purchasing them later for a window weekend. This is the best thing imo for us hobbyists to snag some of the most interesting sculpts outside of general gaming.

    I can’t say that I’ve been in a co-op game that I’ve been irritated during the play anytime lately. Normally I’m a head to head player but the one and only mass battle of Battletech I was in was a major disappointment as the only irritating moment ever.

    I pledge this week to offer whatever critique/analysis asked of me. I will also keep an eye out for wonderful Kickstarters…. and adding music.

    Quick check in. Great to see everyone. Welcome back @warzan and long time no see biggabum

    Ive skimmed the thread. Its 02:19 now, and Ive been playing Switch with my buddies all night: Mario Kart, Smash Brothers and Super Mario Brothers U Delxue (which is quite frankly chaos and bonkers but for all the right reasons).

    Tomorrow I shall unleash my brush upon the outstanding Space Marine Captain.

    For now, good night! Good morning?

    Finished the Apothecary! Quite please with him. Lighting is not the best for the picture, but he’s done!

    Also, @woldenspoons , he’s an Ultramarine, 3rd Coy.

    As promised here is an update on my contrast painted figures. I’m impressed with them so far and now it’s time to see if Black Templar can do some heavy lifting.

    Tiny fighty men ready for some metal paint.  Grey primer, Nuln Oil wash and black paint on the bits that are going to be silver.  The shield and bows are going to be black.

    Here are the guys with the Black Templar on. It’s pretty cool and worked really well. I have some big gaps I missed but I’ll catch them at the end.

    I better answer the questions…

    1. Do crossovers work?  Some subgenres of music crossover well.  Doom metal and Death Metal gave us the English Doom Death scene of the early 90s and who doesn’t like a bit of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost or Anathema.  Rap and metal on the other hand do not mix… see Anthrax.  Games are the same.  Marvel v DC would be cool, Marvel v Space Marines not so much.  I’d love to see more music/game crossovers for the tabletop.  Something like Legacy of the Beast (Iron Maiden’s mobile game) could translate really well into a boardgame.

    2. Good or bad for who?  They are obviously good for the companies as a source of income, marketing tool and market research.  They are good for the convention goers, but by asking how to improve how they are released suggests you believe that there is a problem here.  Companies should do what they want, and people should buy what they want.  Suggesting otherwise infringes on a company’s and people’s freedom and I am am going to finish here before I get into politics and economics, which I have absolutely no desire to talk about here.

    3. I’ve called teammates rude names when playing rugby or cricket when they have been greedy and played for themselves and not the team or when they have been lazy.

    A wee bit of progress on the 10mm.  Need to pick colours for the leggings, sleeves, shoes and belt.  I think I have some white 10mm Maltese crosses that should fit the shield.

    This was supposed to be my second of three days off, but I was asked by a coworker to do a four hour swap tonight. That way they are off and get their Sunday pay. Also, she covered my leave a bunch of times when other people rang in sick, so a good turn deserves another and all that jazz.

    Its been an odd one today with periods of intense sunshine, then cloudiness, then a half hour period of torrential rain with thunder and lightning and now sun again. Also I may sneak in some hobby before work…

    @crazyredcoat

    Don’t worry about it dude this isnt a job. Pop by when you can. I did an Aopthecary recently. Take your time with the last thread. I still have one outstanding from a few weeks ago.

    My appearances may be patchy this weekender, but I plan to paint an Apothecary. We’ll see how far I get. I also still need to tally up last week’s thread… I’m a bit behind, but what’s new there?

    @robert

    The poor napkin!

    @limburger <70 points>

    Well, your hardly going to go into a movie like the Expendables and expect Hemingway or Shakespeare, are you?

    Get painting dude! Cant wait to see your work.

    1) do crossovers work ?

    Im inclined to agree. Awesome point about Massive Darkness and Zombicide. 25 points.

    2) convention exclusives ..

    Me too. I cant afford to spend that much to go to a con elsewhere. I like how Privateer Press had con exlucsives available from their webstore for the events. Not sure if they still do it. Also the second hand market. 25 points.

    3) annoyed during a group game ?

    Aw, 10 pity points!

    10 for the pledge. I like your answers.

    Okay I am going radio silent for a few hours, gotta go to work. Ill get to responding to page 2 when I can.

    @sundancer <20 points, for now>

    1. Mostly it’s not good or even bad. Mixing genres doesn’t really tickle me. I like on genre over another for a reason

    Can you expand on the answer and site why? Conversation, points and all that 😉

    2. As long as the miniature is only a different sculpt (Just cosmetic) it’s fine. But when they get special rules it’s bad (pay to win)

    You prefer them being alternatives but still same normal old rules? Are there any companies that do this well?

    3. No. Mostly because I rarely play group games. Either it’s a one on one, all against all, Big Evil against rest of the players or coop. I could see that happen if I were to play in a group tournament. But that really isn’t my cup of tea either.

    Group tournaments sound silly. Never play coop even no? Not your thing?

    10 points for posting so late! I wanna hear more about your thoughts on the above, so points pending, and extra points too!  

    Pledge?

    10 points for the Justin Meme you created.

    Au revoir, Shoshannah! (Tarantino reference)

    @woldenspoons <80 points>

    1. Do Crossovers in mini games work?

    That’s a different answer I was not expecting. 25 points. Senior Massacre is the infinity dude who is kind of like Deadpool?

    A lot of people think the Kharadrons are Squats in 40K.

    2. Are convention exclusive miniatures a good or bad thing in your opinion?

    The Scalper Dance eh? Never heard that phrase, I like it. 10 points. 15 for the answer.

    What is Chortle? I am not familiar with Mantic.

    3. Have you ever become mildly annoyed, ranging to infuriated, during a group game?

    I think family, regardless of it being a board game, have that effect no? Grumpy or wise? 15 points.

    10 for the pledge.

    @warzan <50 points>

    Apologies are not necessary, chill out! This is not a job. Though under article 114 it is technically a militia if the Decepticons ever invade…

    Flames of War eh? Nice. How big is the German army? Whats the old idiom? If it looks good from three feet away then its fine?

    I think with a big project having something fun about the painting or basing is the key. Or good tunes or tv to bingewatch while you do it to make it even more fun an activity. Or maybe that just works for me.

    10 points for the pledge.

    Sounds like you have a nice method planned out that will leave awesome results.

    Questions

    1. I saw a DC comics thing crossover with… was it the power rangers? And Star Trek the Next Generations with both the Xmen and later Doctor Who. Hard pass. I think there was even Batman and Elmer Fudd at one point, which was actually good and quite dark, apparently.

    20 points.

    2. 10 points.

    3. 10 points.

    1) Somthing with quality components as I’m going to spend time on this. (Some of the KS is not of a high enough quality to warrant the time – and I dont think I’m being snobby taking that stance, it’s just I think it would be disheartening putting that effort into somthing with poor casts and cheap card)

    2) The game has to be fun and atleast allow me to simplify it a bit for the family to get involved.

    3) An underlying IP that’s not too adult in its theme.

    So a quality dungeon crawler or possibly I’m thinking the Harry Potter stuff from Knight models could be a good challenge for this?
