The Pledge:
***************My pledge is to work on Radagast the Brown, my Mordheim Ogre Bodyguard, and my Nightvault starter set miniatures (seven Nighthaunt and three Stormcast Eternals). That is all. I might add on to it. Oh, and try and assemble all my Conquest stuff. I was out and about with my son and visited a cousin whose birthday it is. Got him a see through Bilbo pop vinyl from the hobbit movies and a spare t shirt I ordered by accident. More to follow with the t-shirts.
I also picked up some stuff for Starlink. More on that and my experience with the Nintendo Switch to follow.
I will also post up pics of my completed Goblin King Throne, 40k terrain and Goblin Scribe.
Also on my pledge is to have a great game of D&D tomorrow.
Answer 1:
————Ive been going to the gym since September ish. Fell off the wagon in November with Christmas shopping but gradually got in and getting super stuck in now. Broke a bunch of weight lifting personal records last week. I am leaner, stronger, but also bulkier in part, fitter, healthier, less stressed and more confident. Cardio, walking, weight lifting and swimming. Not eating as much, as badly, less takeouts, and cooking more. I need to keep it up. Not drinking much either. I should be in pristine condition by Summer time.
Hobby Wise I have made a list (along with a few pages in my personal notepad of all my goals) for the year which I will list when I can find it. Basically a lot of board games painted to completion and a few armies for different systems here and there. A bigger workload, I guess.
Answer 2:
————Water all the way. Coffee with a biscuit/chocolate/cake/muffin or for a burst of energy. Tea when I feel run down and tired to make myself kinda normalise, haha. And a breocca in my water when I am feeling lethargic. Nothing fancy on this one with me haha.
Answer 3:
————Ohhhhh a lot. So much. Still have to watch Bright on Netflix, Daredevil Season 3, rewatching Rick and Morty. Rewatch Star Trek Discovery. Black Lightning. Rewatch all the Middle Earth movies. See movies in the Cinema (Creed 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Into the Spiderverse…). Always Sunny in Philadelphia. American Dad.
Man you could have made this into multiple questions. So much. Ill have to come back to this one!
January 11, 2019 at 10:33 pm #1328590I should probably add to question 1:
For the last 3 years I’ve been dealing with extreme pain in my lower left leg & foot. As a result I’ve been taking powerful painkillers for most of the last 24 months whilst getting we try to find out what is causing the pain -long and short of it is an MRI scan before Christmas has revealed a benign tumor that looks to be pressing against the nerves in my spine. On the upside I’ve been referred to a specialist spinal unit and it looks like surgery is in my future. Hopefully removing it should help…
As a side effect of this (as well as the additional injuries from my car accident this past May) exercise has become… difficult to say the least, and a lot of the work I had done in the preceding 4 years has been undone. My goal is to try and regain the conditioning I’ve lost (and if I can get down under a 40″ waist I’ll be count it as a success)…
January 12, 2019 at 12:52 am #1328604Work on my Nightvault (sequel to Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire), from scratch since Friday:
January 12, 2019 at 12:58 am #1328605Tilted angled photos for the sculpted bases which are all that’s really left, for the most part, on the Nighthaunt warband
January 12, 2019 at 1:10 am #1328620January 12, 2019 at 1:11 am #1328621I made a small amount of progress on them since. Hitting the hay now. I’d say another evening or two will finish the seven night haunt.
the Stormcast Eternals will take longer with the various colours and textures but should be finished before the next weekender starts.
January 12, 2019 at 5:03 pm #1328998And I will try to post again. It must be something I do.
Been working on my base set Walking Dead stuff. Applying base colours, more work done since here but happy with my progress.
January 13, 2019 at 12:04 am #1329384Just back from my first d and d session of the year. Made some nice progress on storm kings thunder. Going to do a little more work on my nighthaunt before bed and do a wash on them in the morning. Should have an entire board game (Warhammer Underworlds: Nightvault, ten models) finished (fingers crossed) by tomorrow evening.
January 13, 2019 at 4:58 am #1329491hey All apologies for the lack of posting – just spent all day writing up a project (took way longer than anticipated) so i need to not look at a computer screen for a bit 😛 reponses and posints tomorrow I’m afraid.
January 13, 2019 at 7:31 am #1329528Okie doke. So its a weekend and I was sitting around at work with nothing but time and my KS resin from Norba Miniatures. I got some work done on it with the boat and did some dry fit with the balloon.
January 13, 2019 at 3:36 pm #1329680Waking up and dusting off from sleep to go into a last minute call to cover a 12 hr shift. Grrr.. time to wake up earlier than I cared for. Music to wake up with.
January 13, 2019 at 5:35 pm #1329769Quite a good hobby weekend for me. Lots of work done on my Walking Dead. Very happy with how there are turning out. Then had a (solo @evilstu) game of Here’s Negan.
January 13, 2019 at 5:37 pm #1329770So it’s been a slow day so can anyone guess what Dawfydd’s been building today?
That’s right! MORE SPEECE MURIIINES!!!
(today in Fenris flavour…)So yeah, got a bit bored and dived into the bits box to put together a Wolf Guard Pack Leader (bashed together from the Greigor Fellhand minis legs and bits from a few other kits):
And yet another Pack of Grey Hunters (I think this takes me to six or seven?), using a combo of parts mainly from the Deathwatch & Thunderwolf Cav kits:
And a group shot – I think this particular WGPL might end up leading some Bloodlacws instead, as he looks little more aggressive than these GH’s…
January 14, 2019 at 8:22 am #1330313OK, looking like a week of 40+ degree days ahead so don’t know that I’m going to be hitting up too much hobby prep. Glad I got a start made over the last week or 2, might be able to focus on getting some painting done instead (If I can keep the wet palette from drying… ).
Bit of clean air tonight so can finally get back and catch up on the thread (apologies for my absence…).
@a27cromwell sounds like a reasonable plan for the year ahead. I think you are in pretty good company – most of the people on the forums seem to cycle through various things at any given time. The ones who can stay focused on a discrete body of work and finish things regularly seem to be notable by exception (at least in my mind). Not that that’s any better or worse, it’s just a different approach. I imagine that the haynes books would be quite a valuable resource given the amount of conversion work you do, sounds like a worthy investment. Yes very much looking forward to seeing how the current Vikings story arc turns out. I’ll confess it was a pretty slow series for the first half of season 1. Season 2 I found to be more engaging, and by the time season 3 rolled around I was pretty much addicted 🙂 30 caramel crowns (being this weeks points currency) for question responses.
@horati0nosebl0wer maybe it would help to alternate between white and pink marshmallows on the hedgehogs as well? That way we could hide them in the cotton candy/fairly floss and nobody would be the wiser?… Ah the thread that @lawnor runs is a really good way to get stuff done. I really respect @lawnor ‘s approach with regard to mapping everything out and keeping track of progress. I jumped in on a similar pledge thread a couple of years ago – ended up churning out this liot in 12 months:
It was pretty insane productivity wise (3 chaos armies, 3 frostgrave warbands, core of a Bret and an undead army, Robotech stuff, misc D&D minis and a shed-load of terrain assembled, painted or scratchbuilt). catch was by the time I his October or so the stuff I wanted to do wasn’t part of the pledge I had made close to a year ago by then so it felt like more of a grind than fun getting it finished. Still, happy I did do it as I now have all that stuff to use in games 🙂 Bust painting could be really interesting. Ah, moving is the worst (ok, there are heaps of worse things I’ll grant you but moving isn’t fun…). Hope you can avoid moving if possible 🙂 Hrm, sensing a beverage related mishap theme here – glad I use old coffee jars to rinse out my brushes. And before anyone asks, while I have considered it on several occasions, I am yet to just add hot water to the coffee jar and drink straight from there, so no potential issues with brush rinsing (yet…). Heh, you know better than to plan for the arrival of KS’s right? They congregate somewhere in the delivery queue and then all arrive at the same time, hoping to overwhelm you using shock and awe tactics 🙂 Heh, kept waiting for the drops in that first tune you posted but they just didn’t kick in… 😛 Well and truly redeemed yourself with the last tune though 🙂 60 caramel crowns for question responses, progress pics, tunes and responses to others..
@sundancer 10 bonus caramel crowns out of the box for Die Krupps! Coffee and coffee flavoured cola – if I didn’t know better I’d suspect a pattern 😉 Glad your favourite cold beverage isn’t coffee that has gone cold – that keeps happening to me. ha, looking forward to more pew pew and lights nonsense if you get the chance – Oooh – just imagined a landing pad with blinking LED’s for legion 🙂 30 caramel crowns for responses, 10 more for tunes. 50 total.
@woldenspoons Hope the pathfinding (that’s a legitimate verb, right?…) goes well for you 🙂 An elegant solution to the brush-rinsing in beverage conundrum. My eyes still hurt from the first Green lantern film. Still, at least it gave us a few more one-liners in deadpool. Just got around to watching justice League last night. Admittedly had low expectations given what I’d heard, but still found it to be an entertaining, if somewhat cheesy, take on the universe. 30 caramel crowns for responses.
@biggabum pictures or it didn’t kraken 😉 Sorry, I’ll stop (that’s a lie, we both know I won’t…). Hope you got the chance to get a game in. Can’t say I fault Matty with regard to hot chocolate – if you can, why not? I try to avoid sugar and dairy so I’m on black coffee for fun and profit. or at least for faster incoherency that people hopefully mistake for productivity if i flail around quickly enough… Had forgotten about the last Avengers film. being familiar with the story arc in the comics I pretty much took the end of Infinity War as closure rather tan a to be continued… Actually now that you mention it, I think Captain Marvel is out in a couple of months too – that should be fun 🙂 30 caramel crowns for responses.
@jodain heh i did the same with new years resolutions about 35 years ago – has worked well so far 😉 legion seems to be a worthy target as far as focus for the year is concerned though – you just know Fantasy Flight are going to keep rolling stuff out (or hopefully one day, walking stuff out…). Hrm, awkward with regard to the wine tasting – I guess you could have just sniffed it, swirled the glass a little and talked about the ‘bouquet’ for a bit?… As a friend of mine once quipped with regard to fancy wine tasting, ‘Distinct overtones of grape’. 🙂 Best of luck with the wookies! 30 caramel crowns for question responses.
@dawfydd solid plan for 2019. And that sounds like a lot of local gaming tables, great news! yeah, don’t know that the Horus heresy is ever going to technically end – I imagine once they get to Terra thee will be another series on the approach to the imperial palace… Still, as long as the books are engaging, keep ’em coming 🙂 hrm, you have reminded me that I backed the Infinity RPG that Modiphius did, I really must check and see where they are up to and if I can d/l all the books yet (I prefer to wait until everything is up before I download otherwise I tend to miss updates etc. yeah, i’m strange like that 😛 ). Stripping looks fantastic. And yes, appreciate your perspective on the old Catachan minis – you can’t even look at one without hearing ‘If it bleeds, we can kill it…’ 🙂 deathwatch look great! Very intimidating weight to them as a squad. 30 caramel crowns for post responses, 30 more for hobby progress pics. 60 total.
@mage great hobby progress! The political post made me giggle but the Castro one nearly made me fall off my chair! 20 caramel crowns
January 14, 2019 at 8:26 am #1330314Man this is a quiet thread. I got my Nighthaunt finished but no pictures. I shall take some when I get home from work and after I set up my light box. Also have pics to take of my Goblin Scribe and Throne from Goblin Town.
I’m also working on the Stormcast for Nightvault with only four more colours to do (which all include touching up the base-coat, washes, highlights and final highlights). Should get most of it done this evening but probably won’t finish them outright.
