I made some nice progress on my ogres. Basically, ‘all’ I have to do is the following:
> Higlight the skin with Caledor Sky
> Paint the rim Steel Legion Drab
> Add snow
> Varnish them
> Add grass
Wont have a chance to do any of that til this evening, though. Pics to follow
How is everyone else?
August 15, 2018 at 10:43 am #1252888I’m in work and sneaked off to post @mage.
Sadly I am brimming with enthusiasm for painting and I won’t be able to. Finally picked my secondary colour for my Deathguard. Deathguard Green. ?
August 15, 2018 at 6:00 pm #1253110Thanks for the points and responses, @mage
@woldenspoons – okay I think I understand you question now. But really the answer is kind of the same.
Usually I am not wargaming just for the wargame. It’s part of a larger project, campaign, article series, etc. If so, then wild, off the chart additions like flying monkeys actually do kind of get me irate just because of the “damage” they do to the project.
To use your example – if I’m setting up the Battle of Oriskany for a Revolutionary War series (actually we’ve had the Battle of Oriskany in AWI/AR series on BOW … twice) … flying moneys would get me irate because now I can’t use the photos for the articles.
This “second purpose” covers 90% of my gaming.
But if my opponent and I set something up ahead of time just for fun, or if the “off-the-wall” aspect is the whole point (e.g., the ongoing “Christmas Carnage” series), then absolutely, no worries at all. 😀
August 15, 2018 at 6:54 pm #1253147@oriskany I can see that buddy. Like when people try to force line and square formations into my games. ?
I like all the differences in our gaming likes. So much scope. Now it’s been days since I’ve seen Batman stuff, hit me up!
August 15, 2018 at 7:40 pm #1253189@oriskany : has Santa been prepared for the oncoming storm this year ?
What does he have prepared for any unfriendly visitors ?
August 15, 2018 at 8:16 pm #1253211@limburger – we gotta get the old Christmas Carnage threads re-posted first, or pulled out of the BoW 1.0 archives. 😀
August 15, 2018 at 8:23 pm #1253213@oriskany : I’d say that should be top of the list for whoever is responsible for that part of BoW 2.x … 😉
August 15, 2018 at 9:09 pm #1253219So I thought I could take a break from painting…. but today Leia and Fleet Troopers for Star Wars Legion arrived… they are assembled and tomorrow I’ll prime them…. Huzza! 😉
August 15, 2018 at 10:11 pm #1253239I got some quick work done this morning:
> Higlight the skin with Caledor Sky
> Paint the rim Steel Legion Drab – DONE
> Add snow – DONE
> Varnish them
> Add grass
So, one colour left before varnish, then grass. It is the, THE, last colour. Quite frankly now I am too tired. If it were basecoating or something, maybe. However, this tired at this important and accuracy-intensive a stage? I think not. Ill do one or two in the morning with the final blue, and continue on at a slow, steady burn. Have some busy days ahead. The end of this project may bleed over into next weekender.
After that I have to paint one Butcher, then a bunch of terrain, and then my large ish ‘Battle for the Temple of Skulls’ project, which I have not really gone into detail about (and been working on since at least before Christmas last year) nor mentioned much, will be complete.

I sneak off to do it all the time, don’t feel bad @woldenspoons wait what do you mean Im an enabler? Deathguard green? That’s crazy enough to work…
@oriskany You are welcome. Posting some classics! Maybe we could have a Christmas challenge for everyone to post up their own? Not necessarily a competition or something to award a prize for, simply for bragging rights and maybe feature them in an article, like ‘top pics.’
@limburger I concur
Don’t forget to take pics @sundancer 8)
August 16, 2018 at 4:57 am #1253289@mage – I would have no objection to “sharing some of the spotlight” when it comes to Christmas battles. If the previous Christmas campaigns are still locked away in archive when the season rolls around, I can re-post them as projects, but it would be a shame to lose so many people’s great comments.
For this year, if we had more of a community-participation angle, it would take some of the pressure off me building “armies” for it and coming up with more ideas. 😀
August 16, 2018 at 6:09 am #1253298August 16, 2018 at 10:12 am #1253377hey @al just checking in quickly.
@mage progress on the ogres sounds good – can we hit you up for photos?
@oriskany I had planned to do a themed Christmas game at some stage, leveraging off the reaper mnis xmas seasonal minis range:
https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Christmas
Something along the lines of ‘A Christmas Party’ or similar – only tha Party would be a knight, paladin, cleric bard and rogue off to loot a dungeon filled with ice trolls and maybe rescue dwarf santa… Idea was to get the friends kids and my nephew and nieces playing a simplified version of a D&D dungeon raid for prizes and lolly bags, only don’t know if I could corral them all for a day over the Xmas break (people are usually travelling…). Could maybe rework the concept… Of course like so many of my ideas, project is yet to kick off (ie the minis I did pick up in December last year are still in their blisters…). Love your article series – the photos of the tables are always eye candy 🙂
@sundancer best laid plans… Ah well, MOAR! minis is a happy distraction.
@limburger I’m with you – Santa needs some armored support (are we seeing green and red tanks or proper arctic camo but with tinsel and fairy lights added for no apparent reason?…)
@woldenspoons hope you get some clean air to hit up hobby projects soon 🙂
@tuffyears photos of the game look great. I’ve gotta ask… the pint of wine… was that a sort of a punishment thing for losing units? ie like a 40k drinking game? I could see that sort of concept getting messy pretty quick as imbibement of merry-making fluids would not necessarily correlate with a high degree of tactical acumen as the game progresses. Could be outrageously good fun though 🙂
Not much more progress from me during the week – am trialling an idea to try and make some 28mm roads. First attempt has failed but with enough merit in the concept to give it another go. If I get any traction on a reasonable outcome I’ll snap some pics and do a write-up 🙂
August 16, 2018 at 10:12 am #1253381August 16, 2018 at 10:19 am #1253383@evilstu Hey dude it’s more that I’m back in work and the light is gone when I get home. I am not a frequent painter so when I get the urge I need to act on it. Although this thread is really helping my motivation
Hobby plans for this weekend, buy some Deathguard terminators and assemble them for a game on Saturday. A rematch for champion of the ERF. Painting update, to nobody’s shock, I have painted stormcast models gold. I know!
