I look forward to having a play around with the Contrast range. I mean it’s not like my current approach is much different….

I wonder how they would interact with different primers?

There we go, took me all day to cut the decals and apply them… but here it is!

    Great work @dawfydd and @wolfch! 🙂

I cannot wait to try the contrast paints and I’m wondering if we can stick them through and airbrush for speed?

Andrea gave me a pass to come back into the studio to work on the bases so im pushing on a bit more.

Adding a fine turf/saw dust to give an underlying texture I’m going to prime over 🙂

That was a long process lol but everything is ready to dry and go to priming (maybe tomorrow if the family let me lol)

And I took a little time to push a test a little further to get a feel for how these might look

Needs some matting to the plants to kill the shiny plastic feel.

But I’m very happy with that.

And so are my dinosaurs lol

Hey Team, just quickly dropping in to say hello. @mage thanks for hosting once more. Will hopefully have a window to get some hobby stuff done today so will be back later to post properly. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

@limburger Lol.. Slavic takes on conflict generally make for delightfully depressing scenarios.

@warzan Hooray for less than absolute hungover status. Looks like the Carnotaurus and the two trikes would be interesting for scale (badum ching). Holy Crap! The days orders look massive. Its good to see that the business side is taking off and will make for more support to the rest of the zany venture known as OTT. The work you’ve got is awesome. The fish tank plants definitely work for the bases. I’ve looked at the fleabay sources of plastic bamboo myself for terrain of an Asian persuasion but I have yet to commit to a game that I’d need them for. I just enjoy the painting as its a pain in the posterior to get to the FLGS regularly to game.

@robert My immediate thought when I saw the Judas Priest video was the grand doo-gooder of Japan for a time… Hard Gay!

@sundancer A man of culture!?! I thought that the memes regarding such sundry things were forbidden to these parts? Better look at the definition of these things as The Ultimate Zone might well find me out in the cold were I to illustrate its vital importance to humanity. As far as the taking orders home I doubt that the Mrs. Warzan would allow him to be taking up so much room that the children are tucked away in their own little boxes in the attic like so much of @avernos collection of figures.

How did you manage rough texture basecoats?

@dawfydd Infinity, you don’t say? As far as primers I think that the only real difference is in the lighter colors. Red, orange and yellow will definitely benefit from the white undercoating. The figures you showed look pretty good with the wash you threw over them to tie it all together.

@wolfch The fighters are coming out well. I haven’t done anything with Micro Sol/Micro Set yet but I thought that I might at one time because there is so much you can do with decals.

@evilstu Woot! He’s not dead. All hail the creepy dropbear!

Rumbling deep in the bass sector

    And something completely different!

@horati0nosebl0wer Energia is a fantastic song! I learned about it this past winter from a friend of mine from France. God choice! My friend also introduced me to this one, too, maybe it is to people’s liking?

Not sure if that will show the link, or not; still getting used to the forums finer details… 😛

This is the mass of Flames of War I need to sift through, at some point… Marine codex for scale, I guess? I also need to really build my Grenadiers. I just need to check whether MG42’s were common in all StG 44 armed units…

@woldenspoons what do you mean about etiquette, as in insignia placement or about whether or not to include certain insignia?

@crazyredcoat yes the MG42 was the standard infantry support weapon, so the StG 44 equipped units still had them, there were comparatively few issued due to production. Otherwise you’re fine to have them in the same sections

@avernos Thanks, mate, that’s handy to know. I was planning on building one of my three sections as StG 44 chaps, but with the option of having them as either Veterans, or Volksgrenadiers depending on points available. 😛

Ok, late to the party so retrospective question responses:

    1. Is a hard tabletop boardgame necessarily a good one? – I’d say it’s a necessary but not sufficient precondition. Ifa a game is ‘easy’ then it’s going to be short on replayability, and that’s personally a key component for my considering a game ‘good’ 🙂

    2. Do board games based on a computer game work? Or do they get muddled up in immitating the game’s style translating directly into a tabletop game and suffer? – Never really played but I have a friend of mine who is an avid board gamer and she has many game apps on her phone and will merrily flick through a few turns of Dominion while the action has stopped so people can look up rules in D&D or similar – she seems to think they work OK.

    3. Do games have too much accessories? Yes and no. Some games (notably FFG ones) seem to come with a lot of tokens and components, but they are all necessary for gameplay, and this necessity sort of means that they are therefore not ‘too much’ as they are the right amount to play the game? I will concede sorting them all back into various bags and boxes at the end of a game can be painful though…

@crazyredcoat meh, songs in English are overrated 😉 Surprised I am not fluent in German through osmosis yet… Have all the mins painted? Surely you jest 🙂

@sundancer yeah agree X-wing seems to have a lot of tokens. Once they are all on the playing surface it does sort of break immersion.

@robert more terrain is always good 🙂

@wolfch wow thats a huge amount of BRS! how long would it likely take to get through a game with that many planes aside? They have turned out great BTW.

@limburger oooh gratz on getting the Batman game in hand 🙂

@horati0nosebl0wer nice score on the Clan War 🙂

@warzan a basing marathon is an ingenious way to work off a hangover. Nice looking work! BTW going to steal your idea and upscale slightly and use some ruined wall sections and broken rubble as drop-in terrain sections of difficult terrain. I like the narrative idea that a strategically important location ,may have been fought over generations before and that there may be ruins form a previous engagement which have almost completely crumbled over time. was it DAS clay used with the rolling pin? How did you find using it? I’m trying to find a less expensive alternative to greenstuff or Knead-it… wow, had no idea  that the shop had scaled up that far already. well played 🙂 Test pieces look really good with a bit of paint and aquarium plants.

@woldenspoons enjoy the hobby break! Hope your gaming batteries recharge 🙂

@dawfydd Infinity looks like a nice change of pace, as well as a chance for you to paint in something other than a blue/grey shade 🙂 . Love the variation in the bases.

Hobby progress for today has been picking three 500 point lists to playtest WHFB 9th edition witl later on in the week. Was a bit of a struggle to get viable/legal armies with such a low points count but figured it out eventually – High Elves, Empire and Chaos good to go.

    20190512_103432a

Also been assembling a bunch of historicals which may end up being a Dogs of War force…

    20190512_120507a

Will spend the rest of the day trying to finish getting a couple of Tzeentch characters painted up to tabletop standard and seeing how the release of the new WHFB 9th ed Albion rules impacts my planned army (probably not too much as I wasn’t very far along…)

@avernos I’m just trying to look vaguely authentic without upsetting people. Especially if I use them for demos.

    Morning all

Yesterday was a bit of a flop hobby wise as I didn’t get very much done as I had visitors and they talked a lot.  Then I watched the rugby and started knitting another dice bag, that I had to rip out a couple of times as I can’t do two things at once.

I did get a package, though.  I was that excited I almost did an unboxing to share with you but thought my ugly mug would be too frightening on a Sunday morning and 5 litres of PVA really isn’t that exciting 🙂  It was also very cheap and I have a few ideas I need quite a bit of PVA for.

I did make a start on some terrain made with cork.  Though everytime I say cork, I do put on a terrible southern Irish accent.  Not sure how high to build these but thinking for doing a ruined temple area or I might just stick them onto square bases and snow them up for Frostgrave.  I did do more than one!

    IMG_1438 (1)

Finally I finished another knitted field, which is much bigger than the one I did last weekend.  Saw some interesting looking fluffy blankets in Poundstretcher during the week I could turn into a game mat, so will get one once I get a bit more space to work at it.  Also if I am going to dye or paint a blanket I’d prefer to do it in summer when the sun might have a chance of peaking its face out from the eternal layer of cloud that is Irish weather.

Will try and get a bit more done in the shed today though.

    @woldenspoons well if you simply paint them as Herr the symbols should be;

    • red, white and black shield on right hand side helmet
    • eagle on right hand side of the helmet
    • rank insignia on upper left arm
    • rank collar tabs and trim
    • rank epaulets trim

If you paint them as Thule they used the sun wheel rune as their symbol, they were also disbanded prior to 1930 and not actually ever part of the NSDAP so if you feel you want to add something that’s probably your best bet.

@robert if anywhere was going to join you in celebrating 5 litres of pva its us lot in here. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Those pillars look really good. A bit of paint work on them and they should pop nicely.

The knitted brown field looks like it would be perfect for Flames of War. Time for @lloyd and @warzan to get the needles out?

Have you tried wool as vines?
