@limburger me evil? but why? 😉

@evilstu no, nothing professional just a hobby. I’d love to have more (and better) tools but those need even more space than they miniature hobby.

And since I’ve done my quarterly taxes (being self employed has it’s drawbacks) I might be able to get some painting done tonight. But don’t hold your breath.

@torros fair enough, sounds like plenty of time to make a final decision then. I’m starting to come to the realisation that with historicals given the translatability of minis between rules sets that how to base is actually quite relevant. Conversely, most of the rules sets I have had a look at so far do seem to be fairly pragmatic with regard to applicability of different baseing methodologies. 10 points.

@limburger yeah was wondering how the shredder worked – am guessing long life batteries and some sort of remote mobile phone activation code. Hope your voucher code arrives soon – keen to see how you fill your force out 🙂 That B&P riles book does look nice nd authentic. 20 points.

@sundancer I her you on the tools front – we have a hardware chain in Australia called bunnings which is a very dangerous place to visit – you are walking through looking for the things you went there to buy when you see a palette full of band saws on sale for $129 and start to think to yourself ‘wow, that’s a really good price for a band saw – I should pick one yup’ before actually realising that a) you have nowhere to store it and b) have no practical reason to own one 🙂 Painting looks good, am inferring you managed to get your taxes done, gald you have that chore knocked over for a while at least 🙂 20 points.

No hobby for me today. I did manage to get my foot knights basecoats completed and gave them an AP strongtone dip. Will try to remember to post a pic once the varnish has settled down…

@evilstu The basing is one of the great things about historicals. Not sure what period your looking at but any ancients ruleset will go up to the Italian Wars are on some sort of multiple if 40×20 or in some fewer cases 60*30 but as long as everyone is using the same basing it won’t really matter.

@evilstu : I think rumour has it that he was at the auction and triggered it somehow.
That kind of seems likely, because he couldn’t have timed it better …

The only downside is that with this being ‘art’ it may be worth even more, whereas to normal people it would be junk.

yep … waiting for the code is fun and agonizing 😀
So much cool stuff. Plastic 88’s are interesting, despite being more suited as an objective of some kind.

Bah! catching the thread late again… I really need a schedule for this bus.

Anywho…I’ll toss my two cents in.

Halloween was pretty much commercial for me from the time of getting candy to the present of shelling out candy when people stop by. The attitude toward costuming is definitely different as one ages and sees the intent behind the costumed. I’ll agree from living in Italy as a kid for a few years Carnevale was a different take on costuming.

With regard to gimmicky stuff I thought the painting grip was also odd. @evilstu The Rathcore painting grip was definitely worth the KS money you put in. I’ve gotten use out of mine here and there where I needed detail work. I can say that the fiddly bits for painting eyes and trying to get smaller details has been helped.

I’ll support the thought that humanity is fractured into tribes and will not be able to head into space as a unified planet. It would take the likes of a global event that came to pass in Watchmen or Independence Day to make everybody have a sense of global being. I like the idea of being a planet of people but a monoculture seems boring and devoid of so many varieties of beer (to return to the boozamahol ad).

Blast this editing thig (keept ypos)…. trying to embed videos and such has not been figured out

@horati0nosebl0wer you don’t need to embed them. Just copy and paste the URL from your browser and your done.

Despite getting sick I managed to get some paint on my rebels before my nose started dripping on them.

@torros excellent point – as long as everybody is consistent in base size i guess it shouldn’t be to much of an issue. I think I might be getting a little too hung up on what a particular rules set might be calling for rather than just going with the fact that a base of minis is just a place marker for a set of predetermined game mechanics… 10 points

@limburger yes the 88′ don’t strike me as particularly realistic for BA given the scale (unless you were deploying down the street in your neighbour’s yard of course…), but they do look shiny! At the auction would make sense. Anyhow, a memorable story for anybody who was there bidding at the time 😛 10 points

@horati0nosebl0wer learning how to paint eyes is on my to do list. I think I am going to practice on one of my old armies so it doesn’t matter so much. I was going to say I should do a few using the miniatures gripper to get my eye in, but can’t think of a better way of saying it without it being a bad pun… As @sundancer says I just copy and paste URL’s in as text and it seems to work OK 30 points for responses and a bonus 20 for obvious persistence with the video editing.

@sundancer nice progress on the rebels, hope you are feeling better soon 🙂 20 points.

@evilstu : there is a scenario in the Market Garden campaign where Americans need to capture a bridge before the Germans destroy it. IIRC the scenario has 3 88’s, but I’d say that’s a bit overkill …

Plus it’s based on an actual battle which happened not that far from where I live.
So I’ve got an excuse (not that I needed one ;-))

Which reminds me that I need to visit the nearby museum just to see if there’s interesting stuff.

    @limburger cool, take your camera.

I’ve recently started playing Call of Duty WW2, any of you played it? Anything historical in it?

@torros :I hadn’t heard about that one, but then I live at the other end of operation Market Garden 😉

    http://www.figz.nl/

The Market Garden themed museum in Arnhem is one I have on my list as well. It’s not easy to get to when limited to public transport.

@woldenspoons : I haven’t played it, but IMHO CoD as a series is ‘historical’ in the sense that it’s got the setting.

If you want something with a bit more history then I’d suggest “Brothers in Arms : Hell’s Highway”.  It also covers the initial start of Market Garden from the perspective of the player.

It’s ancient, but the one thing it does do is how a squad operates. Suppressing the enemy and flanking them is a big part of that game whereas in CoD it’s just a glorified shooting gallery.

Just remembered CoD starts with Normandy so that’s fairly historical gaming.

I’ll accept the brothers in arms tip and keep an eye out for it.

Im back! Needed to be quiet for a couple of days and just get some ‘me time’. Squandered one of my days off playing Ocarina of Time for most of it.

WIP of my Temple of Skulls

    And finished

Then again I might drybrush the stones again with Tyrant Skull just to even it out… or should I… nature isn’t symmetrical or uniform…
