Welcome All to another Hobby Weekender! As per tradition started generations ago, and handed down from wise elders, the intro blurb is shamelessly cut and paste below once again and possibly for all time…
To the uninitiated, this is a virtual hobby hangout here on the forum. It is something fun and silly with a little more ‘oomph’. It’s not just show and tell with your models. Its chatting, getting to know one another, community building. Think of it as a sort of club like hobby session. Everyone is welcome, of course, and there are a few rules to abide by. Let it go as OT as you like with chatting with folks. BoW/OTT is a special, unique community, and this little weekly thread is a tradition on these forums. Though not for everyone, if you are still reading and keen, then it is for you. If not, best click out.
We do a few things on this thread that usually lasts from Friday or Saturday til about Wednesday or Thursday. My say is final in this silly little corner of the internet. Fear not, for this is your safe place against the outside world of flame wars, trolling and all that other crap.
(1) Make a pledge for the weekend. It can be painting, assembly, priming, converting, background writing, terrain, you name it. Just gotta be relevant to hobbying or gaming.
(2) Chat with people. Be friendly. Do get to know one another, be kind, provide positive reinforcement and constructive criticism. Do not post up your real name, credit card, bank details or home address info.
(3) I will list out questions. Answer them. Longer answers = more points. Also, points are being assigned to something else as it confused some folk for a while.
(4) Awards will be given out at the end of the thread and you shall be awarded XP, added to your account profile by the wonderful @lancorz . Think of him as the ever vigilant Batman of the forums who keeps a careful eye on the status quo, but also acts in a way, like Alfred; with a calm disposition and the attentive nature of a concierge.
(5) Scottish Pub Law rules: no discussion of religion or politics**. Keep it clean. Behave. Be nice, be kind. Walk away if you get angry. Don’t be a dick.
Also there are bonuses for the following ‘Achievements’:
· Most Valuable Player (most engaged with topic)
· Fire Starter (topic starter, encourages the member circulation)
· Hobby Champ (most hobby over the weekend)
· Meme Lord (ryhmes, funnies & memes)
· Pun-Tertainment (best pun)
· Brush Licker (painting & terrain)
· Headliner DJ (most eclectic music)
· Armchair Commander (weekend battle reports)
· Community Usher (helpful & engaged)
· Storyteller (weekly discussion & story)Note: All points are awarded in fictional currencies… sometimes
Questions to follow shortly!
April 5, 2019 at 10:07 pm #1372507So I was sitting on the toilet thinking of a theme for this weekender and I quickly summoned one from my mind:
1. Have you played many or any narrative play or games? Or narrative modes of exsiting games? And what would you recommend? We will stick with games involving miniatures here 😉 No house rules or homebrewing.
2. Have you ever played a one player tabletop game (card, board, mini or other)? Could you tell us about it or recommend one? Regardless of whether it was designed just for solo play or had solo play as an option? No house rules or homebrewing.
3. Is there any game in the spirit of the above two questions you are eyeing up? What is it? Why does it excite you? Tell us about it and show us links
April 5, 2019 at 10:31 pm #1372511Going to be tricky getting anything done this weekend, as it’s Salute – I know, it’s only a train journey up from Brighton, but it’s Southern Trains so I may as well be setting out from Aberdeen 😉
Maybe see how things are going on Sunday….

Dont worry about it. The thread will still be here on Monday and Tuesday anyway. 10 rupees for posting first.

I’m in a major cleaning and building minis mood at the moment so going to continue doing that. I’ve pulled a few random things of the shelf and have a finecast Great Unclean One that will need a lot of work, and a little box of random Forge Father stuff I want to build as well. I also have to finish building the old monopose Plague Marines as well. Got some of the Forgefathers cleaned and ready for priming already today and also got a box of Warlord’s Armoured Pikemen ready as well – I had great fun drilling out some of their left hands so I can glue their pikes in after I have them painted. If I can get those things done tomorrow, I’ll either grab more stuff to build or set the airbrush up and do a load of priming on Sunday.Questions
My answers will be short and sweet.
1. Not really, apart from making stuff up back or copying stuff from White Dwarf when I played lots of games of WFB and Epic.
2. Does Solitaire count?
3. Not really.
Music
This might inspire me to get a few more of my Arabs painted up next week as well.

So if miniatures are mandatory then I would say the games I played are Imperial Assault, Mouse & Mysic and Fallout. If you have kid definitely give Mouse & Mystic a chance. It’s a lovely tale.
2. Have you ever played a one player tabletop game (card, board, mini or other)? Could you tell us about it or recommend one? Regardless of whether it was designed just for solo play or had solo play as an option? No house rules or homebrewing.
Imperial Assault and Fallout but both only very short time. When I have time to do so my brain is usually in shutdown mode for bedtime and it’s hard to concentrate on rules you need to learn. Fallout lends it very well to single player play because no app is needed. For playing IA by yourself you need the app.
3. Is there any game in the spirit of the above two questions you are eyeing up? What is it? Why does it excite you? Tell us about it and show us links
Currently no. Because no new system in 2019! But if the Fallout expansion “New California” will be translated I will give that one a go too.
Lets play some music:
April 6, 2019 at 10:37 am #1372653Hello all.
1) That’s the main way I play The Walking Dead. Narrative following the missions in the expansions. So fun that when I caught up to date I started again using ‘baddy teams’. Ooh I have enough Woodbury now to use just them…
2) That’s the main way I play The Walking Dead. Solo following the missions in the expansions.
I also play Here’s Negan and Star Saga solo if need be. It’s one of the things I really like about Mantic Games as a company and they can’t be praised enough for it.
3) Technically I have ordered it but of course I am waiting on Hellboy. Just pop onto a small website you may not have heard of called Ontabletop.com for an unboxing.
This weekend I plan to assemble my rhino, my new terminators and my havoks and get everything sprayed. I did have the crazy notion to spray Abbadon gold…
April 6, 2019 at 2:03 pm #1372830Whelp for the first time in 6 years I’m not at this years Salute, and generally just feeling a bit “meh”, at least so far as having the energy to get to my painting space. I have done a bit of hobby over the last few days into this morning:
@mage sent me (amongst other things) an Easy to Build Redemptor Dreadnought that I knocked together this morning, and I did a bit of carving to replace the Heavy onslaught Gatling Cannon with a Macro Plasma Incinerator that came in a bits lot, and put together most of a squad of Intercessors from a mix of the ETB kit, Dark Imperium, and a few spare parts that were knocking around. I’m thinking I’ll order a few copies of the DI sprue that has the Lt’s and Ancient once that issue of Conquest is up for pre-order as it offers up a few different poses and you can use the 2 LT’s and the Ancient body for more conversion fodder. These are all part of the Raptors tertiary project I’m working on amongst all the others 😉
I do need to order some Raptors insignia off Shapeways though….Did I post that the latest Asset Drop Discovery box came last week? If not then it looks most spiffy – more colour shift paints from Turbodork (these ones working over a white base), some crystal paints from Mig (should be good for lenses), a set for painting whites and Instars new Water+ thinning medium, that sounds intriquing. Oh, and some Haribo (they didn’t last the day 😀 )
Otherwise, today big’ol box arrived that I think contains my copy of Core Space from the Kickstarter,so I’ll have a route through that later, and finally Deskbot duties are currently being handled by this superior Decepticon and his associates….
April 6, 2019 at 2:49 pm #1372902Ok im awake after work and I see your posts. I shall sit down with the laptop after I have my cereal. I hate lengthy posts with my phone and like to type quickly with all my fingers so I shall be with you all shortly!
great to see everyone so far 🙂
April 6, 2019 at 3:22 pm #1372967Okay people, remember that the more detailed an answer the more rupees you get, but the questions aren’t mandatory either. They be guidelines. So like, If you are not in the mood for questions or they don’t inspire you, then tell me a wargaming tale. Or like start a conversation about something you enjoy and I will talk to you about it 😉
I do not want to seem like I am paying more attention to one person in favour of another with what interests me v what does not, or if someone finds my questions meh or points or such. 8)
Also more music people! Crank it up!
@tuffyears <25 rupees>
15 rupees for the meme, I love it! It is also a pledge so 10 more. Recommend me some music 😉
@sundancer <80 rupees>
1. I have played Imperial Assault with both a group of friends and one friend, all against the game and with the ap. You have reminded me to play it more, so thank you. It is a good choice and I do like it.
As for Fallout, can you tell me more about the gameplay and if you can get by with just the starter, as well as if it is worth it for the cost? As an example of what I am looking for: I love Dark Souls but how the gameplay was described to me, though sounding fun, seemed too based on the video game compared to making it a better board game.
Mouse and Mystics I will check out.
20 rupees.
2. No app is always a bonus. Im starting to like this more and more and one of my friends who is super picky with board games and RPGs is super into fallout. Also the minis look nice.
10 rupees.
3. Is there any game in the spirit of the above two questions you are eyeing up? What is it? Why does it excite you? Tell us about it and show us links
Is that your new years resolution? You can tell the wife I said it was ok as long as you finished collecting and painting Star Wars Legion. New California? Tell me about it. 10 points.
10 points each for Nirvana, Iron Fist and Last Resort, 5 points for the others.
